Thank you so much for clarifying. I am just left with one question… how do you get that ATPL license? I mean, I know when you go to flight school for commercial pilot at the end of the 200 hrs you end up with the CPL license, but so then is this something that you have to do on the side on your own when you complete the 1500 hrs? How is the process? You have to go again to school for that or say that if you’re working as a copilot in an airline they will help you with that?
You typically work your way up to ATPL requirements. Different countries have slightly different requirements. Almost all of them are in the region of 1500 hours, give or take a few hours. Most CPL holders build this time while working at an airline, NSOP or as an instructor at a flying school.
Hi captain your videos are very helpful I have a question, PPL can be used for personal use and can you take along some members with you as we do in a car, if the aircraft can accommodate can a ppl holder do that or it is only to fly solo?
As far as I understand, in Canada, the SPP (student pilot permit) and PPL are one and the same. Those PPLs who continue into CPL training consider their PPL as an SPP. Interestingly, we do not hold any permit until the first milestone during training i.e., PPL.
do you believe it's worth getting a CPL at these times? I heard many airlines cut down on their employees including pilots during pandemic. I am graduating highschool in June and am considering applying to a flight school.
Please clarify for me Ppl requires ground school exams for 9 subjects. Atpl has 14 exams. What about cpl ? Is it just the ppl exams plus hours of flying ? Thank you very much .
Hi Captain, If I didn't do PPL my money will be save to do my CPL ? Can I become a Commercial Pilot after 12th without doing my Private Pilot License ?
A Student Pilot's License is the first license you obtain and it usually gets issued within a few weeks of you joining a flying school. In India, the requirement is an oral examination with the CFI of your flying school. In some other countries, the requirements maybe simpler.
You must always first have a commercial pilot license (CPL) to become an airline pilot and to get a job in an airline. The very first thing is that you need to complete the training for a commercial pilot license. Later in your pilot career when you have achieved 1500 flight hours you can apply for an ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot License) which license you need to hold to become an airline captain.
I am taking Pilot Education here in Norway which is the modular way. From PPL, CPL IR/ME and MCC. We have to give 14 atpl exams during the training. Is it the same in India? I am btw an Norwegian Pakistani.
sir please can you make a video on how many years and money required for to be pilot. I'm students of mbbs i want to be a pilot but i don't have sufficient knowledge and i don't have any proper guidance
hi captain, I am selecting my flight school but I am confused. one flight school is offering mpl with job security and the other an atpl without job security. which one is more preferred?
No. A PPL is not a compulsion and that's what this video says. One needs to understand what a PPL is. A PPL is and has always been a hobby license or an aircraft owners license. Having said that, one can always get a PPL and it's a good license to have, but it is not necessary in India for a CPL.
sir so its like if a flying club is charging 24 lakhs for cpl and 10 lakhs for ppl , so if i wanna be an airline pilot and wanna make my career in it so i need to pay 24 lakhs right ? for just cpl directly
Stephan De Silva Alright, since you’ve asked it, I’ll answer it so everybody can read, but I don’t think you should waste your time with understanding this because it just wont matter 😊 An MPL is a concept the ICAO tried sometime back in 2006. They created a new license category aimed at specifically training pilots who will eventually operate in 2 or more member cockpits like an airline cockpit. (Typically two crew cockpits nowadays) Why I say it doesnt matter to you is, because as an Indian pilot, you do a CPL followed by a Type. Your type includes a Multi Crew Coordination course which is mandatory. Once youre done with your Type, youre qualified to fly an airline cockpit in India anyway! Besides, an MPL has been added to the ICAO annexures, but very few countries have actually adopted and implemented it. Bottomline, dont bother!
Hello sir , Sir,Iam studying in 9th class and my dream is to be a best commercial pilot and what are the maximum marks to gained in 10th class , hope you may replay me soon
Hey Samarth Do I have the option of appearing for Air Regulations and Composite exams even before I have done my CPL or they can only be cleared when I already have my CPL licence with me? What do you suggest? I am doing my CPL from the US.
Yup! Depending on the country you are from, you need about 1500 - 1800 hours on average to qualify for an ATPL. A frozen ATPL is basically a CPL holder who has cleared his ATPL exams but does not have the hours yet. The 'frozen ATPL' concept has come from a few countries that actually issue a document called a frozen ATPL which says, ATPL to be issued as soon as the pilot completes his hourly requirements. India does not issue such a license. In India, when somebody tells you they have a frozen ATPL, it basically means the pilot is a CPL holder with all ATPL exams done and on his way to getting 1500 hours.
Thank you sir for this great video......and sir I wanted to know from where did you completed your training.

Hey Samarth
Do I have the option of appearing for Air Regulations and Composite exams even before I have done my CPL or they can only be cleared when I already have my CPL licence with me? What do you suggest?
I am doing my CPL from the US.
Yes you can, and it's a good idea to get a couple of examinations done before you fly.
Hello sir. Is there any difference between ATPL and ATPL frozen?
Yup!
Depending on the country you are from, you need about 1500 - 1800 hours on average to qualify for an ATPL. A frozen ATPL is basically a CPL holder who has cleared his ATPL exams but does not have the hours yet.
