Does anyone know the length of the metal frame within the back pack in the Large (as appose to the packed length)? I am trying to determine whether i can pack this into an overhead.
I've been looking at this pack for use on day hikes (small size), photography outings (large middle opening!), and very simple overnight camping (mainly with a hammock setup). My issue is that this pack doesn't have straps on the bottom for a tent, yet I love the breatheability and don't need a pack bigger than 40L. *Any suggestions on another Gregory or other pack that would work well?*
Hey, thanks for the question! Check out the Stout 45 www.backcountryedge.com/gregory-stout-45-2017.html and Paragon 38 www.backcountryedge.com/gregory-paragon-38.html
Hi and thank you for watching! Most airlines have specific restrictions, so it is always best to contact your airline to confirm. Here's a handy guide to the restrictions of many major airlines: travel-made-simple.com/carry-on-size-chart/
Hi Desmond, the Zulu 40's dimensions are 23.5" x 13.5" x 9.5". You could probably get away with it as a carry on on some airlines, but to be safe, check out this list first: travel-made-simple.com/carry-on-size-chart/
When I travel on planes I have the hood empty and fold it down into the main compartment and close with the string. It means that the bag will be much shorter-as short as the frame. I've a 65litre(different brand)but the frame is only 55cm which just about makes the cabin allowance😊
Luke specifically details the top lash strap at around 2:50 and mentions climbing ropes as a potential item to hold tight with that strap. Thanks for watching!
Hi Roger, The Zulu 40 could handle a compressed down sleeping bag or even a warmer weather synthetic bag. It doesn't have a huge amount of space, but definitely enough for overnight gear. Thanks for watching!
How is Zulu 40 different from Z40? Any noticeable update on Zulu 40 that justifies extra $50? Also, I heard Gregory is sold off to Samsonite. How is the quality after the acquisition?
Hi Cynthia, thanks for the question! The Zulu series is built for folks with larger frames and are considered the men's versions. The Gregory Jade is the women's version of the Zulu. We'd recommend that you check out the Jade 38. It's better suited for smaller frames. We did a review on the Jade 53, which is larger in capacity but has many shared features to the smaller 38 liter size: www.backcountryedge.com/gregory-jade-53-women-s.html
It's pretty much a Z-Series pack except for the U-Shaped Zipper being behind the exterior pouch. I have the Z65. It's phenomenal.
Hey, can you explain how to attach a sleeping mattress to the bag? Gregory's website says there is a way.

Video is coming soon, stay tuned!
Awesome video! What is the size when it is empty?
Is this good for carry ons?
Is this good for ice climbing? If so can u show how to pack it with ice climbing gear
This pack isn't really designed for ice climbing, so we'd recommend picking a model with features specific to that activity

I used it as cabin baggage during my last year travel to Indonesia and Taipei
Hi, do you think the Zulu could be used for as a carry on pack for travel?

@@CRyan71 I've been looking at this backpack and this is good to know since I hate checking my bags when I travel internationally.
can you carry 60m rope with Zulu 40? Does it have anchor point or strap to carry a climbing rope?

Thank's for the review. Is it safe to assume that the Zulu 40 is not designed for a sleeping bag? Thank's again. Roger

Hi, do you know if the 40L capacity is just the main compartment? Or does that include the lid compartments also?
it looks 65L for me
