The interviewees are all students mostly high schoolers. I suggest they ask people of different ages, old and young ones.
Yeah, skews the interviews towards the negative side since the younger generation seems to dislike the president for some reason. I'm not really impressed with the Philippine Asian Boss team. They look like amateurs doing their high school video project compared to the other Asian Boss teams.

I mean if you want to have a general idea of how a nation feels about an issue, you need to have representatives of different sectors or classes. If you only pick a certain demographic, then the results of your interview will be skewed towards that side and will not reflect the whole picture. It's merely a suggestion to the Philippine team of Asian Boss if they want to be considered more credible.
@@BanLag3188 But still, if you want to have a general idea of how a nation feels about an issue, it is not enough to watch one or two interviews on youtube. That is something everyone needs to keep in mind (I dont mean you, just wanted to add up). So whether they include two or three older persons (How old?) or not, it wont be representative anyways. I think it depends more on the person who is being interviewed, how they can represent the perception of the people they know or their own knowledge. The chance that the interview will be more representative would be slightly higher, but it doesn't mean it will. ..My point is, whether an interview is representative or not, you can't tell, before you research the subject in other sources. ...Just wanted to say it because I get an impression that many people tend to think that they understand an issue just from reading a few articles, watching a pair of short interviews or talking to one person that is familliar with an issue (problem: people are biased). ...But the positive thing is, that such short interviews raise the awareness of specific issues that not everybody is familiar with. ....But yeah, questioning the degree of the representativity of a survey or interview is a necessary tool. @@noromanx4 I get your point. This is just a youtube video by a private media entity, which has its own biases/agenda. It would most certainly help the credibility of the video by adding a few more people from different sectors (not necessarily age, could be different socioeconomic classes, etc.); That is why polls and surveys exist. The respondents of those surveys aren't exactly the most well-informed people but their numbers make up for their biases. I understand budget will be an issue when it comes to doing things like this. Sadly, people in general will most likely never follow the weekly press briefings, read news articles of several news outlets, or even listen to the president's speeches. For some, if not most, this short TH-cam video will be enough for them to draw conclusions about the state of the country, especially foreigners. Just like you, I hope people will use this video as an introduction and do more research about the topic but as I've said, it will most likely never happen.

Everyone deserves a fair trial. No one should ever take it upon themselves to execute someone without proper evidence. Wrongful imprisonment would be bad enough, but if an innocent person gets executed, however, nothing could be done to compensate for the loss.
As a nation who values justice, we should give people the right they deserve to exonerate or redeem themselves.
Everyone deserve to live also. When drug addicts rape, kill and massacre every stage of life from infant to old age, they never think of their human rights. These criminals just execute.

the president's war on drugs is very effective. in our hometown the drug addicts and drug pushers were surrendered already and they are in rehabilitation center right now. The President and the government give them the chance to change their lives. So, in our community right now is getting better and peaceful. Thanks for the Political will of the President Duterte.

Why not rehabilitate drug addicts instead of killing them and leaving their family in shambles? Why not put their resources into helping reduce poverty so that people are less likely to end up using drugs in the first place?
It baffles me that people actually think the “war on drugs” is effective. Effective for the country’s statistics, sure. “Our country is drug-free, it only cost thousands of actual human lives and broken families in the process”

I'm not a Filipino but being as my wife is, I've been there a few times and have seen some of the problems in the country. I really haven't come across the drug thing but have seen corruption on many other levels that Duterte is working on cleaning up, and understand it's a monumental task to try to change the mind set of those who are trying to get rich from corruption and drugs. As a foreigner I feel safer knowing that the president of this beautiful county isn't just turning a blind eye towards the problem like so many others before him, .. although I do fear that the country will relapse into the same old ways once he's no longer in power.
I'm almost certain that if there was a less painful way to get the peoples attention and clean the place up he's be happy to hear it and implement it.

No one should be executed without a fair trial and after the next election there could be a big problem for Duterte for the methods that were used to clean the country up.
Also after the way the pandemic has been dealt with over there it's anyone's guess as to who will be the next President, .... or if Duterte will even just refuse to give the job up.

It had some good and bad effects....Crime Rate Went down, Drug activities were not that prevalent or at least it was lessen, Drug Lords from within and outside of Metro Manila were revealed including some Police but a lot of Innocent People were killed as part of the process

I disagree, the west has a growing number of drug addicts and pushers and their corruption is more sophisticated than ours since what you are seeing in the Philippines now is what they did in the 80s but in a less extreme way (incarceration or accidental/racial killings). Philippines is late to the game and the west knows what it is saying. Sure we are more poor but it's not like what the west was saying is false... It's actually more expensive killing petty criminals and users THEN realizing that your own government is corrupt so you have to fire them. It wouldve been cheaper if the anti corruption schemes would've been put in place first like the west said instead of killing petty criminals and users. West is on the frontlines of the drug war for decades now..... Experience is something else.

You could've *AT LEAST* mentioned that of the 4 000 000 drug addicts that exist in the Philippines, 2 000 000 drug addicts have ALSO been ARRESTED/SURRENDERED IN TURN. That being said, of the 4 000 000 drug addicts in the Philippines, only 4200 - 20 000 have died as a result of the Drug War too. Things REALLY could've been A LOT worse for the Philippines as far as the Drug War was concerned and it's important to appreciate that.

the second chance was already given by offering the drug addicts a chance to rehabilitate and cure their addiction to drugs. And those addicts who haven't accepted the offer simply had their lives taken in the process of the war on drugs.
The Drug War may succeed, it could fail, but for as long as it is, us, FIlipinos who made the decision democratically, not other countries, that's fine. We will learn from the experience. When we elected Duterte, we are 100% aware of his methods. In fact, we asked for them. If this shocks the Western media, we do not care.

Asian Boss could've interviewed a larger age range. Here in the Philippines, the younger generation has a more negative view about this problem while the older generation has a more positive view, generally. I wanted to know why some has those perspectives.

As a Language Teacher... To be honest a lot of High School students today are more vocal than most working class adults who just wanted to do their jobs and pay the bills.
There is big difference about being Objective or Subjective when approaching a certain demographic😊 President Duterte won via Landslide and still has a Good approval rate. What are chances out of a hundred that you may end up talking to either Pro or Anti War on Drugs?

I still support the government. I mayself saw the changes specially in my province where a lot of my friends are connected or a drug addict but thank to Duterte's effort fighting this problem it create more opportunities to my friend to change their lives for the better.
some of them have legal Jobs and the chaos in my province was so peaceful tham before. and the known pusher in our place was already caught by the policey My uncle was also a drug addict but thankfully he change his life and start a restaurant business.

The people interviewed are only from Manila. If you wanted to have a broader perspective on what Filipinos think about war on drugs then you should've had representatives from people living in Visayas and Mindanao. People in Luzon always go against Duterte, so this interview is terribly one sided. Besides, war on drugs also resulted to a lot of drug addict to go into rehab. We are only starting to take action in this critical problem..so don't expect that a problem that's been happening for years will be solved right away. At least, Duterte compared to others is the only president who put importance on doing something in the drug problem of our country.

I know this war on drugs cannot be absolutely won unless if some sort of miracle will happen but its better that you're fighting than staying in a bed feeling hopeless about everything thinking its futile. This war on drugs is like an inflammation, a sign of immunity which a body should naturally react and if this natural reaction of the body is gone then the body will get sicked and eventually die.

I don't get why people invalidate the students' voices just because they're young. I agree that Asian Boss shouldve gathered a more diverse sample but the students have valid, educated arguments (esp. 8:12 ) I think the sample population in the other video w/ a related theme "What do Filipinos think of President Duterte?" was also not very diverse. But the comment section was filled only with approval from those who support the president.
Age doesn't measure the validity of one's experiences. I hope we don't brand something as "biased" just because it doesn't fit our view.
[Filipinos are divided in most (if not all) of the political issues. I wish Asian Boss became more sensitive on these--both the Filipinos view on Duterte video and this one about war on drugs. And as much as possible, please diversify more in the future (e.g. age, gender, occupation). Thank youuuu]

This is excellent. These youth really understand well the dimensions of the problem. And their conclusions are the same as the ones I formed after studying the issue and living in the Philippines for 3 decades (actually mostly in Davao City). Duterte is attacking the wrong problem as the drug menace will always return if the poverty and overpopulation is not addressed. I have a Gist document linked from my About page wherein I elaborate on this and other issues of the day.
Now go preach that to the leaders of the community in Kensington PA on how to handle the drug zombies there.. Including the millions of other drug junkies spread across the US..
Why are you only doing these interviews with the students or younger generation. Majority of these are bias response. In my 30 years of existence I never felt safer until President Duterte implemented the war of drugs.

Here's an opinion from a Filipino teenager in Philippines who is very, very different from others:
I honestly could care less about the drug war, however even with these results, I feel they are short term only, and I am certainly doubtful that the drug war would actually solve the problem. What would happen if Duterte left office and whoever succeeded him wasn't as vehement on wiping out drugs as Duterte was? I say drugs could possibly come back, but idk, no one predicts the absolute future successfully.
Reason I am doubtful is that I have also seen how other drug wars play out in other countries. Mexico started their drug war 10 years earlier and I don't think there's been much progress there, it seems to me its still full of violence and some instability, and the reputation of Mexico being a drug place still seems. I do hope though I am just under a misconception.
And even the US itself started a drug war decades ago, during President Johnson's time. I know it was supposed to be peaceful but then devolved into violence. What happened? Not only has the drugs not been removed, but both drug use and violence seems to have actually increases because of this, which seem to be problems in the States even today.
And furthermore: For one to seek drugs, there would need to be some sort of emptiness or negative emotion or issue, like depression and trauma. What Duterte is doing only eliminates drugs on the outside, but what of the inside? Certainly while he has prioritized the elimination of the physical, the mentality is another thing. What about education? Poverty? Aren't their faults indirectly causing the drug war as well?
And then there's also the rest of Latin America. Countries like Colombia have also had problems with drugs, I hear a former Colombian president even wrote a letter to Duterte citing his experiences.
What Duterte does is like... compare it to a zombie apocalypse.
What Duterte does is like keeping all the people away from the zombies to eliminate food supply, but what about the hunger of the zombies? Not only is it not dealt with (Unless said zombie dies) but I'd think if the zombie were to starve (if thats possible), it would get more desperate for food the more time it hasn't eaten.
I'd like to think for drug addicts who haven't taken drugs in a long time, they would probably get more desperate to seek drugs, then either they die or they find a drug and relieve themselves therefore the drug corrupts their mind further.
Thankfully, I'm not one of the teens seeking drugs, and I would *NEVER* do that, its an act of utter idiocy to me. Besides, I don't even want to get any addictions to the point I don't even wanna try alcohol or smoking, just the thought and image of myself possibly getting addicted to it terrifies me. Then again, I seem to be in a much better life compared to most Filipino teens, even my friends and former batchmates here.... meh.
Soooo to sum it up, I'm doubtful for the final success of the Philippine Drug War because:
1. All the other drug wars that have been waged on in other countries, as far as I know not a single one of them is successful.
2. Taking out drug supply doesn't solve the mental instability of drug addict that takes drugs. Sure you can kill him/her if you could but then, human rights issues would get in the way.
Sooo am I supporting the war? Well, it depends.
I won't support it if the war isn't successful and only destabilizes Philippines further like it did with other countries. But I will support it if Philippines actually manages to find a new way that works to finally eliminate drugs once and for all.
To President Duterte and the Philippine Government, please make sure this actually works.
Otherwise, you have more drug use, instability, and those angry with human rights issues to deal with.
PS, if you wanna stop someone from taking drugs, best way to do that is, give them a reason not to take drugs. Especially one he/she can relate to mentally.

I am a college student when Pres. Duterte got elected as president. During that time I am very much against him and I hate him so much so I did not vote for him. The media always portray him in a negative way so I was influenced by the biased media. When I started working, I was able to experience the outside and much bigger world. I now realized that he is doing good. However, those who are against him always highlight the negative things. His admininstration is not perfect and I must admit he and his appointees are showing incompetence. But overall, he is one of the best leader so far after EDSA revolution. The situation is completely different. Portugal is highly educated, relatively rich country.
I'm not saying I agree with Duterte, like you said, he's not tackling the root of the problem. Drug addicts are the result of the failed system.
Finally someone with common sense, and Portugal is not the only one, Peru and the Netherlands are good examples as well, decriminilisation seems to be a far better solution. And it's not about funds, first of all, Portugal was not a rich country at the time and was having plenty of trouble. Second of all, the funds that now go to the war on drugs might be a lot higher then the solutions Portugal implemented at the time. Besides all the extra police activity is very expensive, but taking care of all the people is jail is just as expensive. I understand over 2 million people we're incarcerated as a result of the war on drugs. That means these 2 million people will have no positive impact on your economy whatsoever. The have noe become a total liability for the country and from jail they can be of zero benefit to the Philipines. Also the impact of jail time can manifest for decades after they are released back into the general public, having more negative effects on the country i the long run, effecting future generations as well, e.g. children growing up without fathers, or parents as a whole. Decriminilisation and rehabilitation have proven to be far more effective. 95% of all studies on this matter support this and most of these studies also show that violent action mostly leads to more problems than it actually solves.

But, you get hints and ideas how it could work. As a case study which resulted in success.
In Portugal, (at least to my understanding) legalized all drugs.
It was just too much. Portugal was flooded with drugs and when they caught a drug lord, the next drug lord was already in line to immediately replace him. The police was literally powerless!
So they legalized ALL drugs. I admit, it's extreme but it had interesting implications.
Which had 2 main consequences.
1. It totally took power away from drug lords.
Because it wasn't illegal anymore. Drug addicts could buy it cheaper and in way higher quality from the government with medical support.
Which led to less death from impurities and over dosage.
The government became the drug dealer, but with regulations like in medical or pharmaceutical industries. Purity, quality and dosage control, like with every other medicine or drug. You went in principle to a doctor like you would get strong sleeping pills, which in an over dose could also kill you.
So the doctor had to teach you how to, when to and in which amount to use the drug.
And it also meant no wars between police and gangs. No blackmailing, no recruiting victims into criminal gangs or organization, no forced labor, no organ selling, no forced prostitution, no family tragedies, no new born babies who were drug addicted in the womb, before they were born because the mother was a drug addict. Worst scenario the mother of the baby had to sell her body and got pregnant by a total stranger.
2. Because it was legal, people weren't afraid, so they immediately demanded help!
The problem with drug addicts is most of them get paranoid and fear inprisonment, other punishments, the shame they have to face in public, under friends and family. So they simply don't look out for help.
In Portugal they reported themselves to the authorities, got into rehabilitation and got into a long term project, where they got a new job and visited regurlary a councilor until they were really clean.
I agree a lot of those methods probably don't work in the Philippines but at least it gives an insight of the psychology of the drug addicts and power elements of organized crime, in a sense of: "how to strip power away from drug lords."
It just widens the horizon and changes perspective on things like illegal drugs.

LOL. Peru is a good example? Peru did NOT decriminalize drugs. In fact, they've become the biggest cocaine producer in 2013, overtaking Colombia. The only thing legal in Peru is the traditional chewing of coca leaves and medical marijuana. Possessing significant quantities of all other drugs is still a crime.
Portugal and the Netherlands don't have an insurgent Islamist problem funded by drug money and kidnapped tourists. Neither are they neighbors of countries with very large drug cartels (Triads, Yakuza). So yeah. Not exactly the same situation, is it?

Most of the drug addicts killed were because they resisted arrest and posed a threat to the arresting officers. I do agree, however, that there are a number of cases where the police applied unecessary force resulting in a casualty. And that's why there are investigations being done in those cases.
There are also rehab facilities being built maam, sadly, you can only ask the mainstream media why they don't cover it.

Here's how drugs killings work: A drug user(usually are the poor) did not pay. So the drug dealer notifies the paid cops(cops involved in drugs) to kill the guy who did not pay to set an example to all the other drug users.
These kinds of killings are present long before duterte was president yet nobody cared.

Now drug related cops and drug dealers are scared. The only way for them to escape conviction is to kill the people that know of their drug involvement. These are the drug users themselves. The Police Killings were not ordered by Duterte but are done by Drugs Involved Police to wipe out any witnesses and the information the drug users know about the corruption amongst the Police.
If you'd only listen to complete statement of duterte he says that he will only protect cops who follow the police procedures and cops that shoot only on self defense.

All i can say is all the drug addicts in our place stopped their addiction or currently in prison. I can't speak for everyone but i can consider this a success

You think really that the problems on illegal drug abuse is because of poverty? I don't think so. Because even rich people do use drugs like cocaïne and other forms of party drugs. It is a global issue where even in rich countries like America , China, or France share the same problem. Other Asian countries like Indonesia, India, Pakistan have more or less had similar drug abuse problem.
In China and on the Arab States, drug abuse is punishable by a death penalty . While we Filipinos are endlessly debating on who should have the right to live, the drug addicts or the victims of crimes committed by those who abuse illegal drugs, in Latin America such as Colombia, Mexico, or Venezuela, their government were already under the influence of powerful drug cartels.

I really don't get why you'd hunt down addicts and drug users. While they are part of the problem, as they are the ones who create the demand, it's the ones who supply who actually make them addicted to begin with. Besides, finding the suppliers will make it easier to find the buyers either way.
Suppliers are indeed the source, but I dont see why we should threat addicts as victims of their own crimes alone. Simply its about priorities.
Correction Guy Drug usage is a crime because it is made into one. As for why not chase addicts, it's because addicts are addicted. If they could willingly quit, it wouldn't be much of an addiction.
