Great review! Way better than our Dutch AutoBlog team which has a habit of making these reviews quite boring. Loved this review, very detailed and in-depth and the reviewer really sold the cars best attributes well.
I’ve had mine for 5 years now and hope to keep it for another 5. I agree with all of the reviewer’s “likes” here and wish Audi would make another small PHEV like this one. PHEV is such a great solution for a daily driver - my only real complaints about the car are (1) I wish it had a little more EV range and (2) I wish it had memory and ventilation for the otherwise extremely comfortable seats.
what average fuel consumption can i expect if i go for a 500 miles trip without charging the car? did you notice some loss of electrical autonomy already?
@@Speedbanshee if driving 75-85mph on well-graded highways you’ll get between 32-35mpg. At 65mph you’ll do better - close to 40mpg. As for the hybrid battery, yes it has lost some range -probably a 15% reduction over a 5 year period, though I charge and drain the internal battery multiple times per day to handle multiple local commutes. The good news is that I rarely use gas in the day-to-day even with reduced range - I go months between fill-ups. But on longer trips you’ll definitely need to refuel about every 300-330 miles.
I leased one for a GREAT bargain at year's end. It's only a few weeks in, but what a step up from "another" hybrid I used to own. They really did the interior right, all the bells and whistles on the Premium Package are great, and it really is responsive when you hit the pedal. Also, the dynamic driving mode is very sporty and responsive. If you can get it for a reasonable price, it's hard to beat.
I've had three Audi's (TT, A3, S6) and the reliability of the electrics are awful. I reckon the electrics on Audis are fine until the cars are about 5 years, after that, good luck. Not sure i'd trust Audi with all those hybrid electric parts... Could get expensive, real fast. Audi will of course be nice to Autotrader reviewers. Next time you visit a dealer as part of a review, do it in an 'undercover' fashion . Other than that, EXCELLENT review!
You were unlucky, my A3 170 TDI quattro was rock solid the 11years I owned it (except for an injector recall) didn't even change exhaust or clutch in 130k miles
@@clwydianuk my 1999 a3 Ambiente is still going strong. Almost no damages. Once had to repair it while I was driving on the autobahn, but it's 20 years old I can't expect it to work flawlessly for that amount of time
I wanted to know the real world ev range and you saved that for the last 10 seconds. I was almost goig to go to another video But good review. This is gonna be my first car. so excited. :D
I got one and now charge on my solar roof panels... I'm a happy driver!!!! What are those stations people keep pulling into and forking out $$$ for just to make their autos pollute?
What was the long term MPG of everything combined? Im guessing if you were traveling to work through the city you could just use electric mode and not need to use any petrol?
Yes, if you're going 20 miles around city, you'll forget even where the petrol fill is. I'm two weeks, about 200 miles in and out of town, and it's down about 1/3...
My average over the past 2.5 years has been 104.6 mpg (2.7 litres per 100 km). That's a short city commute daily and a longer trip out to visit family each Sunday (that exceeds the battery range of 33 km) and the very occassional overnight trip without the charger.
My average per tank is about 65mpg but saving the elec for places like Manchester rush hour is luxury. The regeneration is impressive when you come back from some place high (nth Wales being hilly). The 3pin charger will do 16amps which is a bit high for a three pin but then it's almost the same charge time as a type2 chargepoint. Do most of my charging at home
Nice review. Currently looking at a second-hand one of these. It looks like the value has fallen considerably because of the servicing costs and the (potential) cost of replacing the battery in the longer term.
Good video. Just a note - the coffee was NOT free. You are paying for it - everybody else there is paid by you and other clients. At best, it was "included" :)
Is Audi going to fix the sunroof leaking issue on e-tron? It's not just e-tron, it's something that's been dragging around all over VAG groupation for such a long time, I can't put my mind on to why this hasn't ever been resolved?
When its quite inside road and tire noise become more apparent. In e-cars I always get more road noise and tire noise. I prefer the subtle hum of a petrol engine as it blends in with the ambient sounds much better. The driving characteristics of this battery car is also less than the petrol versions cause the weight distribution is worse on the e-tron. The battery is heavy and u notice that in turns and bumps etc.
Nicely presented, but how about letting us know how much it averaged in mpg, and how much it cost to charge it up every week. plus how much did the dealer charge for the service? (ps, if I turned up to a car dealer with a camera crew in tow I'm pretty sure I would receive great service as well). :)
you pay £10k premium for 10mpg better(1.4 tfsi does 35mpg), for an average uk owner, it's going to take you more than 30 years to breakeven... nice car! well done audi
You are correct, this car is not a traditional hybrid. The petrol engine does NOT charge the batteries, which is the only reason I did not end up getting one myself lol.
How many kilometers were you able to make in hybrid auto mode? This is crucial info I think, because this car is not intended to be fully electric one.
I get on mine 25 miles in the summer and 20 miles in the winter. Once you start getting less than this I recommend visiting Audi, if the car is in warranty they will replace either a single cell or the whole battery.
Depends on the cable at the public charging unit, if it is a type 2 then yes. That said the majority of public charging I have done requires you to have your own cable, which you carry in the boot.
I still don't quite get the point of a plug in hybrid. You have a petrol engine so why can't it also be charging the battery when doing things like cruising on a motorway? Other manufacturers like Toyota do.
I very much dislike the way the information panel behind the steering wheel looks... very outdated. It looks practically the same as a model from 2008.
This is the best review for this car I've seen by far. All owed to a great presenter!
Finally a car reviewer that gives a great review about the CAR and not a bunch of corny jokes. Please let the guy review cars forever!!!
I’m not sure what you saw but the guy had jokes
Brilliant review, very eloquent and to the point. Please do more long term tests
Great review, straight to the point and well presented, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the comment Erick!

Mpg? Charge time? Mechanical issues? Took time to mention your free coffee but typical sales pitch skimp on the stuff that actually matters.
"It's not a hot-hatch" doesn't really seem like much of a criticism for a hybrid...
Then mentioning the JCW seems really irreverent.

does it hear?and respond to Emergency vehicles?
I’m considering getting one, does it come with a standard UK 3 pin charger or do you have to buy it separately? Or get a wall box installed?
Thanks for a great video
Thanks for sharing a useful video!
Is iOS working with the app as well?
Great review. Is this car interesting for someone who drives 40.000 km / y? Or is diesel the better option?

In hybrid u drive till your tank of petrol is empty if u drive only electric its around 25miles
hello does battery charge while driving ? does it makes sense when one does not have plug in building.
Yes if u do loads of short distance u can use only electric mode.
I just like hybrids versions bc they are based on a petrol car wich looks good, and they are dead silent.
No offense, but you should not complain about a product that gets some more lifting into your day.
What's the average electric only range?

Maybe soon will we use wireless charging and never plug it to a wall.
so in the end youre driving around with 300kg of dead weight if you cant load it properly where you live
Great review, not a great Hybrid car !
Can this car plug directly into a public charging cable? Meaning, the driver does not need to travel with a cable
Depends on the cable at the public charging unit, if it is a type 2 then yes. That said the majority of public charging I have done requires you to have your own cable, which you carry in the boot.
Isn't this the same as the Golf GTE?
Watched the beginning twice in case I missed the year, oh well. What's the point of watching if you don't even know what year the car is?
Great review. Do you have any idea how the power of this car compares to a Prius in "Power" mode? Thank you.
I like the review, but 3 months = long term? LOL.
MPG claimed 176, average...........48?!?!?? What?
Went to Audi dealership...and came out smiling ? Yeah right. Must enjoy dropping his trousers and assuming the position.
Ive had my A3 eTron since September 2015 and now only get 21 miles per charge. Anyone else have this experience?

+Angel Garcia You don't absolutely have to, but if you don't, then the MPG will be seriously effected.
+Auto Trader Sorry to be a 'spelling/grammar/punctuation Nazi' but it's 'affected' not 'effected'. Good video though :)

It's a nice car, but the Golf GTE is a bit more appealing in terms of design as they are both the same car..
