"If you want to get better at chess, study the endgame." ~Jose Raul Capablanca. I'd argue that Carlsen's style is most reminiscent of Capablanca, at least compared to former world champions. They both seek small advantages in the middle game and simplify into a grinding, winning endgame. Not that they can't play extremely sharp, tactical middlegames, but that's not their usual method.

"The appetite came with the meal" - it sounds to me like a metaphor for having hunger for success because of success, rather than having the hunger from starvation or poverty, not relevant to the success. Makes a lot of sense to me, a Brit.
Although it isn't an expression in the UK, it is an expression we all desperately need to describe people. In fact, I listen to you talk a lot in your videos and you're very articulate with a consistent and accurate vocabulary. I can see from the way you form sentences that you have a knack for precision and imagination, which is similar to your game style.

Do you mean, you would have liked if this wasn't a blitz game and the other Grandmaster had not run out of time so you could see them play to mate or draw? Half the point of a blitz match is making decisions under time pressure.
