  • If you want to learn how to draw the best you can do for yourself is practice, a lot. Sadly, there’s no magic spell that can give that knowledge and experience. Fortunately, if you are reading this is because you like drawing, so practicing is the most enjoyable way for you to spend your time. If that is the case drawing is for you and you are ahead of the game.
There are some things to keep in mind on your artistic journey that will make the road much easier for you. The video goes in more details but here are some quick highlights:
These are the two best teachers you can find. First, life drawing is the best practice you can ask for. Take a sketchbook with you everywhere you go. The second are the artists you love. Make sure you study their work find out why they made those marks.
Build that muscle memory with lots of practice, the marks need to become second nature to you so that you can focus on the creative aspect when you draw not on the technical.
Have a positive attitude toward learning. If you are choosing to do it, might as well get the most out of it, commit fully to the. If you are frustrated, it happens to everyone, take a break, or change to a different task. Look at an artist work you admire that will reset those negative emotions and remind you how much passion you have for drawing.
You’ll learn faster if you learn with someone else, you’ll be able share knowledge and share the burdening of mistakes. Join a drawing group, or make one with a couple of friends.
Learning to draw is not just drawing it’s also reading, watching, listening, it’s experimenting, within the arts and outside of the arts.
Failing while learning is part of learning, if you were to do it perfect on the first go you wouldn’t need to learn. Be patient with yourself, if others are able to do it so can you.
Accept the fact that you may not know the answer to things even when you think that you already know. You’ll be surprised how much there is to know. It’s a lifelong journey. Be humble in front of knowledge.
Stay on point and try to learn one thing at the time. Learn it well enough so that you can do it from memory in 3 weeks or 6 months from now. Then move to the next. Retaining what you learnt will make it easier to expand on it, and it’s a great jumping off point.
Find the sources of knowledge that work best for you. It could be a book or a one on one workshop, or a TH-cam video, or creating with friends. Find your comfort learning zone and take advantage of it. Milk it.
There are no stupid questions. Get comfortable asking the right questions for the right moment. Learn to be critical of what you are learning so that you know the why of things, and how it relates to you.
Be patient, learning any subject is a life long quest it’s not done overnight. Stay persistent and true to the task, put it the time and you’ll see it bearing fruit within one or two weeks.

Great to hear the tips are useful to you. By the way don't underestimate the power of a walk. My partner & I usually get the best ideas while walking. I know people who take showers to get out of a rut. The idea is to give your mind a bit of breathing space. Each one of us works differently, try different things and see what works best for you, 😉 then go back to that pencil and have some fun.
