- Yes the arcade is better than this port.
No it's not that much better for me. :)
Yes this conversion was released in 1991, not 1989, that was the arcade.

I love this game, as a 2 player game. Played it a lot back in the day. I'm weird 😂
Well done again.
Weirdo! Thanks. :)
This looks like it has the potential to be huge- like the sprites. But that scrolling… and the method of having to be so far right too! Credit to you for playing for so long!! :o
I am pretty sure I replied to this post. Yet now I see my reply gone. That's just weird.
Thank you for your words of support. :) Yes, unfortunately the two things you mention don't do this game any favours.
If I saw a screenshot of this I would be shocked about how close besides color limitations this game looks to the arcade. They even have ‘Poison’ (The female enemies) unaltered verses most of the western home ports. I can’t help but to wonder as impressive as the large character sprites are if they sacrificed them for a more simplified version would it help performance and achieve an authentic experience to the arcade gameplay wise. I wonder if given the choice what would the average person would choose. I dunno…These questions and more are ones that I ponder over in life...Being fond of this in the arcade and playing it’s spin offs, ports and sequels this port was cool to see. Interesting and awesome commentary as always. Thanks for sharing!
That's quite common for the ST. Usually it turns out better, but this time it didn't go so well. For example Enduro Racer on the Master System changed a lot from the arcade, but the ST version kept faithful to the original, with some drops in framerate, but still worked fine. Or Super Hang On where the ST version was both faithful and very well performing. Then again we had Thunderblade which I rather forget.
I agree with your assessment, I have to give this game a chance every 6 months or so because I love the graphical style so much, just to gaze upon it one more time. But so far have concluded each time that there is unfortunately little fun to be had, beyond looking at it. I loved the summing up of the weapons (pipe) situation 😂
That pleases me so much. I wasn't certain if anyone would get the joke as I didn't execute it perfectly. So pleased! Thank you.
It's not bad, but suffers from that ST 16-pixel horizontal scrolling. Why Tramiels, why?
Let's just say the scrolling could have been better.
Needs the PP Blitter upgrade this 😢
The worst thing in this game is that it detects STe hardware but doesn't use it in any way except for some colour palette shading. Like a last laugh at Atari users face from the industry. And yes, it was very short sighted from Shivji not to include a Blitter chip to standard ST. Would have reduced those "ST is a shit" comments we need to tolerate from the 16bit retro community trolls every bloody week. But then again, ST was designed to be a cheap Mac alternative, not a games machine it became in the UK.
@@Maraka77i Interesting points.
