i had a roommate my first year, being alone is a lot better. you’re going to have the best experience ever. don’t be scared to talk to people. people are usually really kind. don’t get too stressed, stay on top of your routine, stay safe and have fun!

As a sophomore in college best advice I can give is stay on top of your work and don’t fall fall behind! But for dorm related stuff, scent plug ins cause the dorm room can get pretty musty. Another thing is clean up after your self in the bathroom, some people don’t know basic cleaning skills (leave hygiene products unwrapped, toothpaste in sink and hair balls in shower… yes you heard me right) so be mindful of other people. Also another thing is set an alarm for your laundry cause people will take your stuff out the dryer or wash. But if someone takes forever to grab their clothes i personally take the clothes out and toss them in the dryer or fold them. Anyways Colie you’re gonna rock college! 🩷🩷

I’m introverted so it’s hard making friends since the friends you make the first couple of months don’t last (from personal experience) but in some cases they do. But don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to people you think will make a good friend! What I do is compliment people a lot and if they go to say something back go from there. Just make sure you don’t get into the wrong crowd. Also go to parties if u are for it, again don’t be afraid to make new friends cause there are people thinking the same exact thing as you. That truly does help, joining clubs and going to school events is another way. One thing I forgot to mention in my original reply is if you see someone who, for example is struggling to turn on the elevator cause they have laundry in their hands, press the button they need. They will see you as a nice person and strike up a conversation. Keep in mind that pretty much everyone is trying to find their people and place in college so they probably are afraid to make new friends also! But you got this, have fun with it. If you stutter while talking play it cool it’s not the end of the world. 🩷

As someone who have dormed for about 5 years my biggest advice is not be afraid of making friends. Just go up to them and talk. 2nd year college student here! I attend the University of Michigan, and I dorm! Some tips I'd give you is to get a lap desk- they're so useful when you wanna do work on your bed. Another thing is a rolling laundry cart- for me I hated last year not having one and having to carry the big basket to and from the washer and dryer on my floor! Definitely also get a power strip surge protector, you never think you're gonna charge as many items at one time as you're actually going to 😭. Also get a steamer-it's so useful to quickly unwrinkle clothing. A portable shower caddy is useful aswell, and for 100% sure shower shoes! Dont wanna catch fungus haha. I could've used these tips my freshman year so I hope some help you! I've been watching you for so long and you're really a huge inspiration to me! I'm amazed by your dedication and work ethic. I wish you the best of luck in college! The last tip I have is to make the most of it! You're not going to be in school forever, and as important as schoolwork is, you deserve fun! Go to that party! Show up and out at football games! Go all out ! You only live once, so make the most of it. Most of all, (I'm sure you don't need this tip haha), but make time for family! Once the high dies down after a fun night or something, I always caught myself missing my family SO much so we tried to schedule daily calls- but I was super busy so it really wouldn't work out. We came to a conclusion to facetime every Sunday to recap the week and every other Wednesday to visit eachother. Obviously we texted everyday aswell! So, with all that being said, have the best time ever Nicole! I'm so proud of you!

My dorm advice is what your dad said ! Keep your doors locked always and never ever share keys or code with anyone it could be someone you trust the most who could steal from you or destroy your personal items. Remember to have fun take breaks and always keep your room a safe space for yourself 🙌🏾 I’m graduating this spring as a first gen college student so i learned so much over the past 4 years. Also i would recommend a sound machine if your dorm floormates ends up being noisy lol it helps when ppl have little get togethers or play music for whatever they’re doing. Have a wonderful freshman year colie you got this in the bag!!!
So exciting! As a former college RA, my advice would be to spend time in the common areas of your dorm, attend hall events, and meet new friends through your classes and clubs! Especially during the first few weeks of the year, before classes have gotten busy, people have more time to socialize and get to know each other. Build a community on campus. Definitely let your RAs know if you need anything, RAs are here to help and connect you with campus resources and we enjoy getting to know new students!

If I had to give you one advice, it would be to not let anybody go into your room, wait until you really know someone before letting them in. Hi Nicole! I've been an RA for 2 years and in college for 3. My biggest piece of advice is to go to the events! All the other freshmen are just as scared, excited, nervous, and eager to make friends. Also, making friends in classes is the best way to find your circle! It's a great way to make more friends and you grasp the concepts you are learning in class much faster when you have people to study with!
Honestly can't believe colie's already moved in. Like it was crazy watching her get ready for 7th grade now I'm watching her get ready for freshman year in college. my best dorm advice as an upper would be to have a good relationship w the staff in the building and to also clean asap but if ever its been too busy, always keep ur trashcan prepared like a plastic bag ready to be used. i also preferred to have a solo room just like you, no roommates and i think thats better so ull lessen stress over their behavior or whereabouts! also for acads, more orgs, more ppl. but also more orgs, more tasks. so know ur priorities ALWAYS!! + study for a subj as if the test is already the next day 😂 there will always be lazy days and thats okay its better to use them for sleep bc college can rly get super busy! word of the season: discipline !! ❤️🔥 goodluck on ur journey colie! Hi , for dorming I’ll say lock your doors when you’re in class or away for longer time periods. I was abroad in Thailand for an exchange program and I always lock my doors when I go to class , get food , etc. You never know who can enter your room and just take valuables like money (some may seem trustworthy but at the end they’re not). Keep your valuables locked if possible and always carry your wallet with you. Even when I was in my dorm room (I lived alone too) , I made sure the door is locked. And at night , I ignore any knocks on my door especially if it’s super late at night. And DO NOT reveal your room number or any specific info about your dorm area.
16:40 my tips are: 1. Be careful who you trust. 2. Be nice but don’t forget to set boundaries. 3. Take the chance to attend every event on your first year to know your uni, your schoolmates, and yourself better. It’s the perfect year to explore.

watching someone my age doing the same things as me and having the same milestones truly is so like inspiring and makes me feel less alone. I moved in the 10th august in a different state than my parents and my boyfriend so it’s been the biggest adjustment ever and I’m so happy seeing someone else going through this also. GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi Nicole! I've been an RA for 2 years and in college for 3. My biggest piece of advice is to go to the events! All the other freshmen are just as scared, excited, nervous, and eager to make friends. Also, making friends in classes is the best way to find your circle! It's a great way to make more friends and you grasp the concepts you are learning in class much faster when you have people to study with!
Honestly can't believe colie's already moved in. Like it was crazy watching her get ready for 7th grade now I'm watching her get ready for freshman year in college. I genuinely love how she styled her room and placed stuff I probs wouldn't be able to do all that like she does. I'm so proud of her and how far she's come. I can't wait for the college series. ❤️

my best dorm advice as an upper would be to have a good relationship w the staff in the building and to also clean asap but if ever its been too busy, always keep ur trashcan prepared like a plastic bag ready to be used. i also preferred to have a solo room just like you, no roommates and i think thats better so ull lessen stress over their behavior or whereabouts! also for acads, more orgs, more ppl. but also more orgs, more tasks. so know ur priorities ALWAYS!! + study for a subj as if the test is already the next day 😂 there will always be lazy days and thats okay its better to use them for sleep bc college can rly get super busy! word of the season: discipline !! ❤️🔥 goodluck on ur journey colie! Hi , for dorming I’ll say lock your doors when you’re in class or away for longer time periods. I was abroad in Thailand for an exchange program and I always lock my doors when I go to class , get food , etc. You never know who can enter your room and just take valuables like money (some may seem trustworthy but at the end they’re not). Keep your valuables locked if possible and always carry your wallet with you. Even when I was in my dorm room (I lived alone too) , I made sure the door is locked. And at night , I ignore any knocks on my door especially if it’s super late at night. And DO NOT reveal your room number or any specific info about your dorm area.

i’m a junior in college this year! my advice is to not overwhelm yourself, take your time and stay on your work. my first semester of freshman year was pretty miserable because of the amount of change and all the pressure i felt to be perfect. so just take your time and remember to focus on the school aspect not only the social aspects of college! good luck girl!!!!💗💗💗
