Nice to see you bring awareness to this! Not many people like Hornby anymore anyway. They were once the household name in model railways for the UK (and other countries like Australia), and now they're a shell of their former selves, reselling old toolings for like $400. More people are going with manufacturers like Rapido UK, Accurascale, etc. who provide more detailed products for the same price or even cheaper.
This model is actually a repaint of the Italo train set. Notice that the pantograph is on the passenger car like the Italo while the real Avelia Liberty has it on the locomotive/power car. The real Avelia Liberty also only has articulated bogies between the coaches and a more conventional connection between the locomotives and end coaches. bot the Italo AGV and Amtrak Avelia Liberty were both made by Alstom. The new French TGVs, called the Avelia Horizon, are more similar to the Avelia Liberty.
Beacuse it isn't an authentic version of tye model, the headlights aren't going to work, and will just be stickers, if you want one with working lights, I think Bachmann Branchline does the Accella
Just watch the video. Hornby have dropped the ball on this train set. They used to be great once but now they have hit the wall. Not sure if you heard of Piko or Roco but I think if they made the new Acela train as a pack. It would be much better and would likely have the Plux22 decoder face. If you want to try Piko. I could recommend their DB BR247 locomotive. I have one in the EGP colours and I love it! All the best from Ireland. Peter.
I watch nothing but TH-cam and I ran across your channel I love it make me laugh every time I like your style brother I'm an old white man from California bad if you see me on the streets that's how you would pldescribe me but man you are the best I love your style brother
Note that the extra accessories with that accelar set are normally sent to compensate for a not so authentic train model, other more authentic versions, expect you've brought scenery before, or have plans to get some
You should be able to purchase extra coaches for that set too, as long as those coaches are labelled to be 'Hornby Junior', it will have the same type of couplings
Both versions of this set are an embarrassment for a number of reasons. The picture they used for the original announcement was licensed from a friend of mine and we were excited to hear something happening, and then they dropped this junk. Here's the notable issues for model: Typical cheap Hornby junk with old, worn-out tooling, an out dated drive, and no lights The colour shading on the model is all wrong. It's a good start, but notably the grey on the nose is completely too dark The main issue: it's a completely different model. That's right, that is not the Avelia at all. It's a similar-looking train they already had tooling for. The real one is *not* fully articulated like this set is and is not a true MU set like this is. Save your money, wait for the Bachmann model to come out. The MSRP is insane but Bachmann's pricing department is on drugs and it will be lower in stores. Always happens
Honestly, shocked the paranoid mob of hornby theorists hasn't shown up to say you're a plant to bring DEI to the hobby or something. Welcome to british model trains, we have people raging over rainbow flags on shipping containers and constant negativity. It's all very british.

Awesome video, really enjoyed your commentary on this. Also congrats on 500 subscribers.
Your sense of humor is amazing. Thank you for making me laugh! And of course for the train info. You Rock!

Subscribed! Planning to do a review of those Gresley engines? Looking forward to seeing that :)
Cool video, annoying that the headlights didn't work, I love how model trains look in the dark will all the little lights on.

You’re underrated! Keep it up!
Subscribed! It’s great to see quality content on stuff like this.
congrats on 500 subs 🙌🙌🙌
Nunchuck train!!!! I was rolling lol.
7:07 Now this would be a prime candidate for some jiggery pokery with Arduinos as a DIY RC solution!
The sad part is that Hornby can make a hold in the US market. Because they have the rivarossi tooling. Unfortunately they probably won’t use them.
Or for the Acela 2 model train, wait until the Bachmann one comes out. That will have lights.
I wish the best of luck to your channel man. Also, have you tried train sims?
Thank you! And no I haven’t, I’ve been interested tho
awesome video man
Nice presentation and background.
The trsin is technically still based on a alstom trsin but its the agv not the tgv m

I bought the daylight #4449 for you
It is weird that they used a Avelia AGV for the hornby model instead of the Avelia Liberty (aka THE acela II).
It’s a literal Italo or it’s a etr 500 with another livery from lima
Are ya gonna do reviews on the Flying Scotsman and Mallard sets too? 👀 😮 2:42
When did this come out
8:32 atleast that has enough train in the train
Did man just say alexa train set?

Hornby DoublO is pronounced the same way as Double O, which is where OO/HO Guage got its name from

Hornby's 'Eurostar' electric train set features the same type of inter-connecting bogie coupling
I do speak as a hornby junior set owner, and as an owner of lots of more authentic Hornby models, including the aforementioned Eurostar
can you plsss do a give away
Great video,in most cases you get what you pay for😢
