idk if i'm answer this correctly coz it's been a long time since i read the book, but i think no we dont get that in the books espesially in tmi.. book' magnus been potrayed as wiser than his look which not older than 17 but he's a lover not a fighter kind.. and personally i like this show' magnus better, he's a high warlock of broklyn for god sake, dont mess with him..
Well actually he doesnt have much scene in the books tbh.. i think in book two we've got "powerful" magnus a little bit.. after that his storyline more about malec relationship and even that most of it happen offscreen.. :)
maybe its quite late to reply to you now, but you can see angry powerful magnus in the book, The Bane Chronicles. It is when he faced Valentine for the first time. Its really great and terrifying and I think he can kill Valentine if he allows the anger totally control him.
I can't wait to see Magnus and Simon interecting on season 2!!!
