So often I hear of Christians that claim they don't need to read the Word, and how they just pray... And I have even been to Chruches where the Pastor does not have a Bible with him and the lights are so dim you can't even see to read your own Bible. Prayer is very important in growing our relationshipand closenesswith God, but the Lord is so loving he gave us thousands of instructions in his Word so we would not be led away from the truth and deceived by false teachings. 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV [15] Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. As we read here, it is by studying the Word that we are approved unto God, because we now know the truth and can live by that, instead of being ashamed and living by false word we believed because we did not have the true Word in us to rightly divide it. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV [16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. How can we know we are living right for the Lord and walking in righteousness, if we are not in the Word daily to recieve correction and to know the steps to take to stay on the path of righteousness. Jesus is and will always be the only true perfect one to walk this earth, but our goal as a Christian is to change who we are and to live as Jesus did, spreading the truth, praying for the sick, afflicted and bound, and seeking the Lord daily... the only way to know how to do these things perfectly is by reading instruction from the one that is perfect.
