I'd love to see Cuse back in the mix. As someone who grew up/played in the 80s-90s, I rooted for them always. A lot of us public school kids here in MD LOVED the fact the Cuse was mostly made up of public school players from NY. On top of having the stick skills, NY kids would usually out hustle and out tough any of the private school, blue bloods that went to Hopkins, VA, uNC, etc...

Love these videos! Keep ‘em comin! Would love a take on the Ivy’s recent comeback and how every team maintained a pretty solid season and what they look like going forward. Almost feels like the Ivy is what the ACC was 5 years ago

It would be nice to see them emphasize local, Section 3, talent and build / development that grown in central NY talent pool.

An underrated part that get's overlooked, is how there are only 12.6 scholarships to give out. So, most players on the roster are paying a decent amount of tuition. With Syracuse now being one of the more expensive schools in the country, you can get a higher quality of education and same level of lacrosse for the same price, if not cheaper at a different school.

    Great video and great points.
Living in Onondaga county my entire life, and being emersed in the lacrosse culture of Central New York, the path of SU lacrosse has been heartbreaking. Moving on from Desko is a good start, and hopefully the local talent doesn't get missed any longer. Dropping the ball on the Thompsons was the final straw.

Commenting mid video, let's see how it matches up:
Reason 1: Ambiguity with Desko and ultimately his departure (there was the snafu with #22, but that was more a symptom than the actual issue)
    The rise of The 🍊:
    1. Gait if coaching the men (did an amazing job with the women's team)
Final synopsis: Coaching (I think the same can be said for JHU). Both former powerhouses, with ❓ for coaching (another example - Princeton. They never been quiet since the departure of Tierney, but he put Denver on the 🗺️)
Programs success will always boil down to management and leadership (from the AD down to the captains and the coaches on the middle)

If they had one more offensive threat and a good goalie, their 2021 season would have been much better. Can't have just 2 offensive players that can initiate and create havoc for the defense... unless the 2 are Gait brothers.

I'm just a SU lacrosse fan. I'm not even in the galaxy of being an expert in lacrosse or the team. About 15 years ago one of my friends who I would call a lacrosse expert and had close ties to SU lacrosse was telling me that SU lacrosse was going to be in trouble because the coaching staff didn't like recruiting. According to him there would be big lacrosse tournaments and other teams would have their entire coaching staff there to scout and recruit players while SU may have one low level assistant coach there if they were lucky. He did say that the coaching in itself was top notch, but it just seemed like Desko felt that they didn't need to recruit that hard and that players will just come to SU based on its reputation and Syracuse being located in the middle of Section 3 high school lacrosse.
I wasn't sure what to make out of it as SU went on to win a couple of more national championships, but then the Thompson brothers...both of whom were almost predestined to go to SU end up going to Albany and one of the things they mentioned was that SU barely recruited them.
It's a real shame if this is true because whether any coach likes it or not, recruiting is part of the job. Purposely spending little time to recruit is purposely not doing your job. Furthermore, it was Roy Simmons, Jr. who tried to find all of the talent he could and always take a look for recruiting that he ended up finding the Gait Brothers and Tom Marechek along with a host of other players that he discovered and his father discovered before him.
I'm guessing Gary Gait will be a much more active recruiter even though he could use his name and what he's meant to the sport to get top players to the program. But recruiting isn't all about pushing to get top players, it's also about finding those diamonds in the rough that others never bothered to uncover.

Very interesting to look at Syracuse the last 3-4 years especially. Players like Dordevik, Curry, and many others have been outstanding for them. BUT, depth at defense killed them. The last two seasons, they had the worst defensive midfield unit in the nation. Dearth was outstanding, but there were D3 schools with better short sticks. Brett Kennedy was great, but they had zero skill at close defense.
Future could be bright. Owen Hiltz is a star in the making, but they need to put together a complete team.

awesome video! Also think people forget how much game has changed or grew. So much more talent going to more schools other then the handful of blue bloods making the competition kinda start to balance out. Def on point with transfer portal and cuse not hitting hard like other schools in past couple years(also feel transfer rule needs to change to stop so many transfers feel like teams just buy chip that way “cough rams “. Also think more kids wanna play asap instead of possibly battling hard or competing for spot at some these higher schools. Also think some kids so used to being star player get to college some struggle to be a team player instead which is only way gonna win at that level. last but not least as bias cause cuse fan my whole life and drive 7hrs from pa to cuse twice a year for game always wonder why no one ever gives Notre dame crap for how many good teams they have and never won chip or made it as much and has good coach who’s been there even longer then desko was at cuse. So many top recruits go there yet they seem to always fall short themselves. Also wanted to add think with growth of game the bigger football schools like notre dame Michigan ohio state are more appealing to lax players also cause who isn’t college football fan n love to play lax for ur college team while watching football games . Thanks keep up good work jake !!!!👍🏻

Further to this, if Albany and/or Stony Brook could develop into a consistent top-20 presence, they would crush Cuse for in-state talent. These schools are pennies on the dollar vs. Cuse and candidly the quality of education is not far off, if at all.

here is what comes to mind as a life-long cuse fan... goalie issues, poor defensive strategy (early slides, poor off-ball defending), they arguably had the hardest schedule of anyone last year, marsh's offense seems predictable at times, consistent sloppy play.
