      @@GopherCakeStuff Believe me when I say Hwasa is fatter than most idols. Blackpink is so skinny at 45kg on average. Even BTS Jin is 63 kg at almost 5'-11". But I believe she fluctuated. She started at 60kg, then dropped to 47, back to 50kg. She must look good if she is slim boned. For a woman with larger bones and wider hips, more weight in needed. I am 5'-10" so my ideal weight is supposed to be 73kg but I was told by my doctor that 86kg is the best because of my large bone structure.

      I was just thinking that... like "a bit of fat is attractive" and then he chooses someone who would have never been considered as having any "extra" fat in western countries. What Asia considers a bit fat is what most western countries would consider perfectly within the realm of "thin". But of course, that doesn't make western standards OK, because there's clearly a "good" way to have that extra "fat" (e.g. when it creates an hourglass shape on the body, not in any other way).

      @Fartsquad_ ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Maybe Korean beauty standards are not diverse and very racially and ethnically selective but it is not UNachievable by the vast majority of the Korean population. The people that they idolize in terms of beauty such as Suzy, Jung Hae in, Jisoo look very much like the regular population. They have the sort of soft harmonious beauty that they admire in these particular famous people, rather than sharp features. Most Koreans are slim and smaller statured naturally rather than Hwasa who has curves and hips. (Tbh Hwasa is considered so popular in Korea that anything she touches on broadcast sells out like crazy ) But the renown beauties in Korea have very common features that can be spotted anywhere in korea. Jisoo is a very good example of how westerners view beauty and Koreans view beauty. Westerners think Lisa and Jennie are beautiful, both have very sharp, very in-your-face type of features that stand out and grab your attention. While jisoo has a more softer beauty which many surgeons around the world say is untouched. I was surprised to see how many Korean young people have this sort of soft quiet type of beauty . Another reason why mixed and foreign beauties will rise to fame in Korea but will never have the main spotlight like Suzy or Jisoo and they will never represent Korea in beauty pageants such as the way Philippines or other Asian countries do. So i would definitely say, Korean beauty standards although may be racist and not diverse, it certainly isn’t impossible for the Koreans . Which tbh is only what matters cuz everyone else around the world got their own beauty standards so why they trying to follow another country’s? Lmao

    • @Fartsquad_

Pointing out one idol or actor who is unique is not representative of the overall standard. Korea is not as diverse of a country as the others here, so its understandable their standards of beauty are more narrow. But trying to argue that certain features (double eyelids, skinny, pale skin, etc.) aren't important is just not true.

    One of the things i am kind of proud of as a german is that the emphasis on "being as beautiful as possible" is not as strong in germany, because the value of a person is not only dictated by looks. Wearing highheels, uncomfortable clothes, strong makeup daily, getting cosmetic or plastic surgery, going on unhealthy diets - all of these are ridiculed in germany to protect young girls and their sense of self worth. Looking back, i feel lucky in this sense. My brother and i were praised for our intelligence and skills rather than looks. And once i start working, of course i will look clean and respectable, but other than that my company should only be interested in my skills. Thats very important to me.

      @anika141 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Just to add some more thoughts on beauty standards in Germany: I agree that it's nice that superficialities and beauty ideals are not taken as seriously here. Though I'm not too sure about that. I have the impression that looking as natural as possible, wearing rather sporty and simple clothing, not standing out too much, at least not as someone who puts too much emphasis on their appearance, is a beauty standard in itself. I prefer natural looks as well but never understood why it's necessary to ridicule/judge people that do wear a lot of makeup, enjoy "uncomfortable" clothes and don't hide the fact that they place a lot of value on their appearance. In my experience, many people find those who are "overly well groomed" a bit suspicious because they assume that only a vain, superficial person would present like that. Then again this may be just my personal experience. I think we simply shouldn't draw any conclusions about the character and the intelligence of a person regardless of how they choose to present themselves. :)

    • @nikaswords17
      @nikaswords17 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@anika141 you're right! There definitely is judgement towards people who wear strong makeup etc. I totally agree with you that we shouldn't make too many assumptions about others who choose different looks. Makeup and clothing can also be art forms or ways of self expression or just a way to deal with insecurities (acne etc.) when you're young. I just think the problem is that usually, especially when we go a step further into things like plastic surgery, it's in most cases not about uniqueness or self expression. It's about societal pressure, especially towards women. As women, our value shouldn't just derive from being perceived as beautiful, those times have passed. Again, self expression is important and everyone should have the right to do what they feel good doing as long as they don't hurt nobody. But if we want actual equality between men and women, as a society we can't, for example in a work setting, demand things of women that we don't demand of men. If I want to wear the pencil skirt and highheels because i like it, I'm gonna wear it. But not because my creepy boss thinks showing my ass to potential clients will bring more profits in. Or is anything comparable demanded of men? Well those are my thoughts

      Beleza objetiva é relativa e cultural. Se a gnt for usar o modelo simétrico grego (que é o mais usado no ocidente) a maioria dos asiáticos não iria receber um bom escore pros padrões clássicos de beleza caucasiana. Hoje com a disseminação do kpop e kdramas, nós temos introjetado os padrões coreanos no nosso dia a dia, mas objetivamente, para o padrão brasileiro(caucasiano e latino), a maioria dos coreanos (as) não seria considerado gato(a), gostoso(a) nos nossos padrões, o que é um aspecto priorizado no Brasil. Pessoalmente, eu acho os padrões caucasianos bem sem sentido pra gente. E eu acho que apreciar a diversidade de belezas é sempre algo positivo.

    As a German I think the emphasis in Germany is to look naturally pretty and healthy (clear skin, healthy weight, groomed appearance). Another factor to this is that it’s no secret that Germany has a big porn and prostitution industry, heavy make up and noticeable plastic surgery is considered cheap looking or looking like a sex worker. With influence of skincare and make up brands from Asia I also noticed that not only in Germany but in all of Europe tanned skin is not the beauty standard it used to be. You can be considered pretty with pale skin in Europe now as well. You’re not called a “ghost“ anymore.

After seeing a lot of illegal and dangerous bleaching stuff about Asian country in generell I felt really uncomfy. Anyhow to much sun actually feels uncomfortable for me and seeing without sunglasses in a very bright spot is something. Nowerdays I just love me like I am and see it as being a bit of a Vamp in Winter, wich is kinda cool. But with pale skin u need to get your skin check ups and u need to protect it more. 😅❤

And regarding the hair, I understand that in its current state curls may not be the norm, but as lately there has been a "wave" of women transitioning from straight hair to natural hair, they are wanting long hair with a perfect curl, a straight root hair and wavy/curly ends. I even go so far as to say that we are moving away from the "dictatorship" of perfect straight hair to perfect wavy/curly hair. Because women with curly hair are not seen as beautiful.
