As someone who is not very deep into this community, there is a major problem with attacking anything and everything that *might* in the slightest way be related to a clone, and honestly it's a major turn off. Places like reddit and some insta communities that outright ban and alienate clone owners only further serve to divide the community and encourages an entire sub-community focused around clones to have to exist. It's really toxic behavior, regardless of the morality of a clone company, to alienate someone from the community entirely just because the first cool flipping toy they bought off amazon was a clone. Like, I can understand the hate and where people are coming from, but at the end of the day bali clones still bring more people into the flipping hobby. But instead of informing or educating these new users, they are cast out to the clone communities, and this does nothing but hurt the adoption of balisongs as a whole. It's just honestly just sad.
I don't condone or support any alienation due to having clones, that's just a normal part of getting into balisong and has been for a long time. It's never okay to harass people especially for dumb reasons like that. Though, you still do need to hold the companies themselves accountable for stealing, but that's not on the customer.
@WillHirschFlips I don't disagree, companies definitely shouldn't be allowed to just rip people's hard work and livelihoods and flip them for a quick buck, but the hostility around the community jumping to conclusions is what gets me, and seems to be what you're going through in this video. Imo, that's not something real companies and creators should have to constantly look over their shoulder in fear of, and like you said copyright can help, but it also stifles innovation. Just not the most welcoming community cold war to walk into as someone new to the space.
I'm really hoping that you'll be selling the live blades separately without handles, so that we can swap them out as and when the situation suits it. Just had my purple Vulp pro shipped out today and I can't wait to get my hands on it, having a live blade I can put in it when I'm not out in public would be amazing!
Coming from the balisong competition nabalis started I've had my fair share of similarities when I posted on reddit. Guys said the handles looked a lot like Orion handles 😭, that hit me the wrong way lol. Changed the handles a lot after that, glad I came up with something that could count as a callback to the nabalis marbles texture inside the handle slot. Honestly way better than the original handles. It's the Reverie btw.
I wonder if the false live blade can be polished to a mirror finish without affecting handling? I'm still a beginner but considering adding balisong tricks to my live music performances. I personally love the black blade with red handles, but seeing as I usually perform with moody colored lighting, I don't think it would be as visible from a small venue stage..
I'm waiting on my gold/black vulp pro and acid wash canyon, really dig the design of the FE blades on both. In a market where multiple manufacturers mass clone and replicate original balisong designs, your hands are clean, relatively speaking. While I can justify spending $200 on 2 original balis, I wouldn't spend more than that on one, regardless of how nice it looks or flips.
I can’t wait till the vulp pro live blade drops I hope I get one I didn’t get to get a chance to get a canyon so I want to get this instead i feel like this Bali will be my next best friend lol especially on road trips and my journey through life and btw keep up the work will and Brandon talks vids have been providing me entertainment for a while now thank yall so much
Crazy how you can cancel a company for using a bottle opener on the same spot of a different knife... (I know theres more really small things like how they have different companies but at the end of the day all Chinese made balisongs are coming out of the same factory and yes thats most likely true with nabalis stuff)
Can i review a live vulp? I remember getting the vulp right when it came out, i had just picked up a mako as my first balisong and it was soo slippery, got the vulp and was like omg this is good, so i bought a second one 😂🔥
To be completely honest it feels to me like you're just going back on what you said about marcolo because now you have a more egregious example where your balisong looks similar to another balisong. I also think what you said about armed shark using the same file and only modifying it enough to make it not look like a clone is not true, to me the C116 looks like an entirely new balisong, although if it is true that it is armed shark using the exact same file as their mako clone, I would see where that would be a little different. I also understand that the cutout in the blade is for weight purposes, but that could have also been done in other ways, and it's just a little too coincidental that something which isn't too common to see happened on something that was already heavily inspired. I'm no Will Hirsch hater, but I personally don't think this was a good move.
I always saw the Vulp pro as it's own thing. The handles are derivative. Deriving isn't a bad thing. Many products exist because they had something to build from. Now, your language for the mercolo vs Vulp argument sounds too convenient for the situation. As for copyrights and patents? They don't even remotely stagnate industries. The idea was originally to protect someone's IP: which these things barely do as is! The only reason why no one challenges bigger companies tv at have them is due to their enormous legal teams or media influence. Someone much smaller even with a patent would be buried by media influence and legal fees in a week batting a bigger company.
I totally get what you're saying, but at the same time there's a lot of historical precident for the usage of copyright as a way to stifle creativity and innovation in many industries
I cant believe that people are even giving you shit about it, like omggg 😭 the vulp came out before the cygnus anyways so, and the whole thing about design is calling back to other things and implementing other peoples designs that inspire you etc..
To me a clone is manufactured to look like the original, it's a counterfeit. It would have maker's marks, logos, packaging etc all done to look as much as possible like the original, making it difficult for most people to visually see a difference. Dishonest people could then try to sell the clone/counterfeit as an orginal. A copy looks like the orginal, but is easily identified as a copy because it doesn't have the orginal's markings or packaging. Ethically both are bad, but the clone/counterfeit worse because of the intent to deceive. You and Nabalis have done neither of these, similar shapes or design ideas isn't the same as copying. Many balisongs look similar at first glance, but that's often because things like a bowie knife blade shape is always going to look similar. We all recognize that basic shape. Anyway, I just bought the red and black Vulp Pro Live Blade to go with my purple Vulp Pro Trainer. I also have one of the orginal Vulp Trainers. Keep up the good work guys, I always enjoy your content and flipping.
No need to defend yourself. It looks like clone that was adjusted not to look like clone too. If I were to open a car factory and made design similar to new bmw design by myself I would get sued, no one cares that I came up with it as at the end of the day its a copy.
You know one of barracuda's trainer blade looks just like the sirus V2 trainer blade, so sirus is a clone and LDY is a clone company. And the structure of serif is similar to tsunami so serif is also a copycat. 🤓
I don’t think that that is exactly the right way to use the word disingenuous. Not trying to be rude or anything. You are in fact getting me through my life. Thank you.
I appreciate that! I do my best to express myself properly but sometimes it's hard to word stuff exactly right in videos like these where it's all off the top of my head
I disagree? Disingenuous means to pretend you have a lesser knowledge of something than you really do. It is disingenuous of him because to deny that the vulp pro looks similar to the Cygnus is pretending to ignorant of that, when in reality he definitely is aware that they look similar. I personally think it fits well enough but let me know what you think!

I feel like we’re throwing allegations around here about Thomas. A lot of people have been seeing this vid and giving hate toward Thomas who is associated with Marcolo/in charge of managing manufacturing, and he also makes his own Balisongs. I feel bringing him down for something he didn’t control isn’t fair. Just my take, I hope you can see my perspective. Also while I do like the vulp pro idea… bro… with all respect if you have to argue tiny details and point out the hollow grind vs. Not I feel it’s a clone. Doesn’t mean the vulp bro is a bad Balisong, it’s great, but it is a clone imo…
We didn't know who Thomas was until a couple of days ago, and haven't at any point directly criticized him or even mentioned him, just the practices of Marcolo/Ownall and the like Thanks for your thoughts on the Vulp Pro
Real talk though, when I decided to join the nabalis contest, it was really frustrating to come up with a handle pattern that people wouldn't call a clone. The cygnus is literally my most favourite balisong, and I got inspired by the general shape of the g10 on there. Bad part is, no matter what I thought of, I was still worried it'd be called a cygnus clone, so then I just removed the 2 alu cutouts on the bottom, which honestly somehow solved all my problems
