      I'm loving the G2 and hate that I had those initial issues but I am overly pleased with how it was handled. They made no excuses, didn't try to blame me for anything and had me back on the water in no time. You couldn't ask for better service than that. For all the folks that say you should have bought X,Y,Z... there hundreds of examples of motors from those manufacturers that have issues too... No company has a perfect record and when something happens, the service after the sale is what really matters.

      Just the nature of an outboard, well, boat motor for that matter, lends itself to problems. It's a very compact package with a lot of power and they are getting extremely sophisticated. If I repower it will be an etec but for now I'll stick with my trusty carbed Merc 150. Sucks gas like no tomorrow but never fails to run. Every brand has people that are dissatisfied and I have seen every one of them break down at one time or another. They remind me of snowmobiles in that way.

    • @MrZukiman1nc
      @MrZukiman1nc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true statement. Unless you run them every week, they sit for weeks at a time then you get them on the water and run them 5000+/- rpm for a few hours, troll (idle) for a few hours and put it back on the trailer for a couple more weeks or months. Then you add in the saltwater (corrosion) factor and it's really a wonder that any outboard can last as long as they do.

    I'm having a mid range overheat problem with my 2014 150 hp etec. your video heading says you had a similar problem but doesn't explain the fix? i've replaced water pump, thermostats. have more that average waterflow from tell tale. heats up to 200 anywhere from 1200 - 2600 rpm. cools down above and below that range. Any help would be appreciated.

      Jakeo is this a repower or new boat? We played with my motor height on the transom and made several adjustments before we got it dialed in. We also made a couple prop changes too for the best performance. The motor has so much torque and power that it will definitely behave differently than your old motor and the height may need to be changed. I'd talk to your installer and see what you come up with. My motor height needed to come up. You can always turn the auto trim off until you're able to dial it in. Thank you for subscribing, post some videos of your motor!

I bought a brand new 2017 Starcraft 186 Titan and dealer has been great but 150 miles away so some are things I must learn on my own and get used to. Technology has increased since my last new boat, a 1987 22' Sea Ray I/O.

    Just a respectful question--it is not a statement. When you say you feel it is the best on the market, what do you base that on? Is it that you have heard that the other companies--Honda, Suzuki and so forth, have more problems? I don't pretend to know by the way, I'm not current. I have a Yamaha and have really no issues, though I admit, I have not put many hours on her. Thanks for posting, I do consider this sort of video very useful.

    Good to know. I was bummed when I saw the first video. There has been a lot of good put out about the G2. I grew up on Johnson Evinrude and sad to see the foreign motors, Yamaha, take the market. I really like what I am gearing about the low cost to operate and the emissions.

    Thats pretty loud at idle. A suzuki or yamaha 300 you can only hear the water discharge "pisser" at idle. Plus they dont blow power heads.

    • @MrZukiman1nc
      @MrZukiman1nc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a two stroke it's very quiet. I'm very happy with the sound being a little louder since the trade off is I get more torque, horsepower, and better fuel economy. Google Yamaha outboard motor problems, you'll spend days reading about all the problems people have had. Google G2 engine problems you'll only find a few... this being one of them which they replaced within weeks of the issue occurring. I don't own stock in any outboard company and have several friends happy with their Yamaha motors... also know guys with Suzuki motors and they're happy too but they have both had issues with their motors as well.

    • @sawmaster6095
      @sawmaster6095 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yamahas blow powerheads. My F300 blew (timing belt broke) at under 2k hours. Repowered with this exact motor, coming up on 3k hours, no issues. Yes the Yamaha was quieter at idle but that's not something any real boater would care about. Everything about the Evinrude is better. Never going back to four stroke. Maybe will consider electric when the time comes

    A dealer told me this motor can run for hours without oil at 1200 rpm and has melting protection so it shuts the engine down completely if it gets hot enough

    • @MrZukiman1nc
      @MrZukiman1nc  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it runs out of oil it will put you in a "limp mode" which doesn't allow you to go over 1200 rpms. This allows you to limp back to a safe place hopefully.

    • @MrZukiman1nc
      @MrZukiman1nc  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Voodoo one you were indeed correct. Evidently there are two ways of regulating the temperature on the G2. One of course is the thermostat and the other is a valve that opens which allows more water into the motor. I took my boat to a competent marina, Portside Marine in Morehead City, NC and he immediately found the issue and fixed it. It now hasn’t gotten over 170 degrees and runs awesome.

    • @hookednrolling2009

      @@MrZukiman1nc yes it is the pressure relief valve under 1800 rpms you’re on thermostats after 1800 rpms relief valve open and immediately starts cooling engine I already change my relief valve they get corrosion in them and they pop the seal then they spray the underneath of the flywheel keep eye on it or ask dealer if you should change it JT 🇺🇸🇺🇸🐟🐠🎣🛥⛱⛱🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    • @MrZukiman1nc
      @MrZukiman1nc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am currently waiting on a second powerhead. The motor was full of corrosion and BRP said it wasn't a warranty problem however they are sending a new powerhead and I have to pay to have it installed... It's really a shame because I love all the performance and fuel economy I get from the motor, but it just seems to have too many issues. I personally believe that the issues could be traced back to Denver Marine, where I bought it and got it rigged.

  • @totowolf9716
    @totowolf9716 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Were you trimmed down or is that thing rigged too low?

    • @MrZukiman1nc
      @MrZukiman1nc  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's trimmed all the way down because if I trim it up when I tow the tubes it throws the water all the way back to the tube which makes the ride pretty miserable for the riders.
      It is rigged at the top hole, we originally started two holes lower and the top hole seems to be the best.

      +Kevin Harris cool...I'm moving to the same model as soon as the powerhead blows on my 08...is the steering hydraulic and if so does it connect to the standard seastar hoses? Does it hook up to I command gauges?

    • @MrZukiman1nc
      @MrZukiman1nc  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it's power assist hydraulic and connected to the standard hydraulic hoses. I upgraded to the Evinrude Icon 3.5C gauge from Mercury smart gauges I had. They do have a retrofit system that allows the use of older gauges but I'm not 100% sure on what it works with. Their website has the different options available for rigging. When I got mine I think they had a free rigging special.

      Good deal! I've got around 165 hours on it now. Just got back from a week at the coast Bluefin Tuna fishing. Again no issues, great fuel economy and lots of power. The G2 is definitely living up to my expectations. I went to Norway many years ago with the US Marine Corps, if Denmark is anything like Norway you are fortunate to live in a very beautiful place!
