As someone who has over 10k kills on controller Lock on doesn’t really help with stuff you would expect it to help with, in my experience lock on has never blocked a side dash m1 and has only blocks loop around front dashes about half the time, projectile moves will also tend to miss while using lock on because since the game shoots the projectile directly where the target is, they will most likely be moving when you throw it so it won’t hit the target player. Lock-on is really more useful for catching players off guard with a stray front dash, if you at a certain distance from the enemy, the front dash will go right behind them and immediately hit them before they have time to process what happened, it also helps more for hitting moves that have mobility and are turnable, such as moves like expulsive push, strength difference, and thunder kick. I believe lock on has just as much cons as pros and for an average console player who never turns off lock on during a fight it would most likely help the enemy fighter instead.
