- Skytrans will take over QantasLink’s Sydney-Lord Howe Island services from 2026, as Qantas’ regional subsidiary retires the only aircraft in its fleet that can operate the route.
Lord Howe Island (along with Norfolk Island) is an important transit and refueling point for light aircraft flying between Australia and New Zealand. Located 600 km (373 mi) to the west is the Australian mainland, and 900 km (559 mi) to the east is Norfolk Island Airport which is within range of New Zealand to the southeast and New Caledonia to the north. These countries are within the range of many light aircraft when fitted with extra fuel tanks and operating via the two islands, but not while flying directly between them. From New Caledonia, other Pacific nations such as Vanuatu and Fiji are within range and can be used as further 'stepping stones' to other South Pacific and North Pacific destinations.
The airport's elevation above mean sea level is 17 ft (5 m) and it has one runway, measuring 886 m × 30 m.
This's my bucket list since long time ago, thank u for uploading this, hopefully one day I could manage to visit it and experiencing the underwater endemic species.
What a beautiful vlog:)❤
Glad you liked it! 😄
Great well edited video with lots of angles. How much is a round trip per adult?
It’s a little bit pricey. A return ticket is more than $1000. Peak time can go up easily to $1500
@@TravelwithLei ouch. I fly over it going back and forward between Wellington and Brisbane. It’s epic to look down on and imagine what it’s like to live there!
@@ibsn87I believe you have to be there to experience it. :) I loved it!
Lord how I want to go home!
Wow, what a wonderful vid! VERY professional and the cuts were super tight w/o any editing flaws that I could see/hear (though a little fast at times). The music was pleasant and the visuals were spectacular. Well done.
Thank you so much, Chris! I’m really glad you enjoyed it. Your feedback means a lot, especially about the pacing-definitely something I’ll work on. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment!
@@TravelwithLei Was very enjoyable as Chris highlighted tho would suggest to drop the background music level slightly and fade it out on take off and landings as the Dash sounds are awesome on their own. As at June 2024 Qantas had 19 Q200's which will be phased out in time.
Looking forward next month for our 4th trip to LHI.
Hope you enjoy it!
Have been once (2019) would love to go again.had a lovely stay at Pine Trees Lodge.. wonderful staff and food also. Its no wonder a certain NSW Premier loved going there.
WHY OH WHY THE OBNOXIOUS MUSIC???????????? LET US HEAR THE PLANE ENGINES FOR GOD'S SAKE!
Because I was not aiming to make an episode of Air Crash Investigation! 🤣
@@TravelwithLei I too like the sounds of flight over repetitive mind-numbing electronic music anytime. And we're not alone! Keep it in mind.
@@rocketeerPM2500 I hear you. So I made another version with the original background/engine sound. Check it out: th-cam.com/video/lp4Yy3uDIdY/w-d-xo.html

@@TravelwithLei Thank you, that's awesome
Because there is only 1 operator the fare to LA is less than the fare to Lord Howe.
That is so true!
Didn’t know Qantas still used q200’s
Maybe that’s the only few planes that can land on this short runway.
Qlink have 2 i guess in operation, specifically for Lord Howe Island
QLink won’t have-200 / -300 for much longer, not sure what company will take this service over
When was this recorded?
Hi just last month.
Kill the music. Raw sound would make it feel more entertaining
Sure. Here’s the version you may prefer:
