    Hey Dave! Thanks so much for taking the time to create these videos. Much like other commenters, I'm now retired and getting much joy first from RC Cars, and now with Slots also. I too have an avid interest in scratch builds and your videos are a huge inspiration. I just started again with slots this past November and have both a digital and analog track set up, and about 25 cars ranging from a vintage midget racer to 132 and 124 Carrera cars. I've also started acquiring model kits for scratch build bodies, and making large shopping lists for brass and other items for the scratch build process. I'd love to pick your brain a little bit for some questions and advice, is there a better way like FB or a forum or something to chat with you? I'd love to connect if you don't mind.

      Thanks Roland! Yes, the syringe is the best way I have found to put the urethane in the mold. And the O rings work great to attach the tires to the base. After casting, it’s a simple matter of snipping it off the sidewall.

    How would you tackle air tyres? (Tyres that have a cavity)

    • @shotgundaveslotcars
      @shotgundaveslotcars  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question Ciarian. If you have an original tire, you can make a mold of it. But honestly, I don’t know if a urethane air gap tire would perform the same as a rubber one. Rubber is much softer allowing it to expand. Not sure if urethane would work the same. Some experiments may be in order.

      @@paulkennedy8461 it’s good you have the old rubber tires. They’re perfect for making the mold. I always use 40 shore. I’ve never tried anything softer. Just be advised that 30 shore tires will wear down a lot faster. But if you have a mold, you can make as many as you want.

      Hello rhys! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it. I’ve had two wooden tracks in the past, but never noticed an oily residue. The urethanes will leave a bit of rubber on the track, similar to natural rubber. What do you guys race with? Rubber or silicone tires? It’s nice to have different opinions. It helps people make their choice.

    I'm taking a interest in slot cars (again) lately and your channel interests me the most of all the ones I've watched recently. I had a huge HO scale track back in the '80's and it was a lot of fun, but I've been thinking about a larger scale track for many years. Scratch building slot cars would be the ultimate for me. My son and I raced RC 1/10th scale electrics at a local track for a few years and the car building and tuning was a huge aspect of the fun for me then. Thanks for the great videos because I am so inspired to get a track set up and build some cars right now.

    Very cool video! I think you said shore 40? Can you make them harder or softer through the mix ratio or materials used?

    • @shotgundaveslotcars
      @shotgundaveslotcars  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you full monte. Appreciate it! These are shore 40. But they do make a couple other ratings. I believe 20 and 45. But you’d have to use that material. The shore ratings don’t vary by adjusting the mix. In fact, that would probably result in tires that never harden up.
