This movie is kind of genius. It was ahead of it's time. Before Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, or Zombieland, there was this. And the great thing is that it actually took THE star of that era and put him in a spoof of his own genre. F-cking brilliant.
Putting Arnold in a typical role in a movie that essentially spoofs the genre that was Arnold's bread and butter was the best thing about the movie. It still stunk.

I am so happy to read the comments here after the shock of knowing that one of my childhood favorite movies was basically a flop. This movie is a classic to me, and I love it!
In the current age of films, a movie would be centered on the kid going into the film, and then save the sequel for when the movie star comes to the real world. It was great that this film pulled off both so well.
When I was about 9 or 10 years old my dad would take me to the local video rental store every Friday. I could rent any game (SNES) and any movie (within reason) for the weekend. I would rent Last Action Hero every time. I probably watched this movie as a child at least 50 or more times. This was an awesome movie!
Fucking same dude. I'm born in '93 and I used to watch this movie as a 5-6 yrs old kiddo and havent seen it since. Now I'm 24 and about to watch it again to feel that nostalgia.

I think the hatred for this film that is out there is because of a lot of people prefer to see movies with him kicking butts over comedic acting. As for me, I love this movie and Arnold Schwarzenegger was just perfect for it.
Fun Fact: Austin O’Brian was in the Film Prehysteria! 2:08 Due to a hint from Dinamation. Bonus: 3:05 This must was heard on the VHS preview of the 1998 Video release of a Disney classic. “Introducing Disney’s 25th animated classic The Black Cauldron”.
Great film. I can’t understand why everyone was saying it was a flop when I was a kid. Because of that I never watched it until I was an adult and it was on tv.
17 yrs later .. still as fun as it was when it came out ... loved this when it came out and couldnt understand all the negative press about it .... i guess those ppl who were just as delusional about ford fairlaine ... drank from the same punch bowl ... sadly they are still free in society lol...
This movie is one of my favs... but anyone that watched this movie answer me this because its been a paradox of thinking.... If Danny and Slater had gotten back the ticket how come they didn't go through the prequal and saved Slaters Son.... Was it that they didn't want to fight the Ripper again but they would be more prepared to have a balloon cushion from his sons fall while the other origional Jack Slater offs the original Ripper... I know this was at the mercy of the director maybe I answered my own question but this has been picking at my brain!
But how can this t-1000 be here? Is that a mistake? Terminator 2 came out in 1991, but this movie came out in 1993. I think the director or screenwriter of this film wanted to put him back in the film.
Saw this movie in theaters when it was out. Thought it was a fun waste of time. It was out at the same time as Forest Gump. I saw this movie twice, and Forest Gump once (mother made me see it with her and my sister).
I haven't seen this in so long that I don't remember anything about it. But it's pretty awesome that the T-1000 exits the police station as they enter.

i loved this movie as a kid still do i put it up there with his best films. how great would it have been if jack slater became a reocccuring role for arnold just like rocky and rambo were for stallone.

I wish I had that ticket. Be fun to hope into all types of movies. Maybe go in the movie The Social Network and 'help' with facebook and get a lot of money and then travel back into the real world with the money and put it in the bank. Or Back to the Future 2 and get that Almanac.
You are both lame. I would go into Terminator 2 or maybe Star Wars Empire Strikes Back. Or Ghostbusters. Also I am pretty sure any money from a movie would be worthless in our world.
Movies like Last Action Hero I think fail because everyone takes these spoof movies way to seriously. Cheesy, yeah but it's supposed to be that way with all the cliches'.

Did $137 million world-wide. Far from a bomb.
Not when you take into account it cost $85million to make. It didn't even make twice it's budget.

You are right. It is the essence of 90's action movies.
I liked, but it's very flawed.
Yeah, Magic Ticket my ass, Icy
Most underrated and unnecessarily critiqued movie in history.
This film is a classic. One of those films that hyped me up from my childhood to adulthood still. Great cinematic motivator!

An action movie that makes fun of action movies. It was well before its time and too intelligent for the critics.
Opening the week after Jurassic Park did not help.
@jeff arnette it more blame on Jurassic Park release date and that it was directed by John McTiernan
THAT NOW WHY HAVE FREE GUY NOW!
Arnie and Danny never did see each other again...this movie deserved a sequel just for the bright concept that it had

why does Arnold look like Duke Nukem
Duke Nukem is a knock off of Arnold Schwarzenegger

The reason why is because there was no time in the film to do it.That would have been a plot for the sequel

The hitman fled across the desert, and the action hero followed.
