Absolute favourite of mine. Ill never forget seeing Hulots Holiday as a child, I wore the video cassette out I watched it that much. I have since bought all the DVDs of Tati's films. I also loved Mr Bean and never realised they had links but it seems so obvious now. Great video thanks👍

Excellent video. I'm a huge fan of Tati.. I have watched his first four movies so many times and am still fascinated by what he did. A genius of a filmmaker!! 😀

I just am watching "Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation" and it reminded me a lot on Les vacances de M. Hulot (but with a plot), especially the first scenes in the beach house. And Henri Mancini borrowed a lot from Alain Romans there, IMO.

Amazing Job on this one! I‘ve watched playtime today and I thought it was quite good, but not that great, but thanks to you, I will definitely give it another try. Keep up the great work!

Alexander Seidmann thank you for the support! To be honest, Playtime took me a while to sink in. And before I went back and watched it the second time, I already knew I loved it then.

@@YepItsHoward you got me with the long nightclub scene. Only after you said that, I got what the whole long part of the movie is all about! I will definitely give it another try!!

Playtime can be watched over and over again. Each time you discover something new. That means when you watch the same gag in your first viewing and then again in your sixth viewing, the sixth viewing is completely new. One of the greatest directors ever and Playtime is one of the greatest films ever

"Hew-low" is the pronunciation. Beyond that, this was a pleasant take.

I watched Playtime ages ago and never understood the overwhelming love. I feel like I'm missing out.

Tati is just a fascinating artist. Playtime requires multiple viewings just to catch as many things as possible! Thank you for binging the videos!

@@YepItsHoward your analysis of Ruben Brandt Collector was so so good that I had check out your other videos. This was another great video that I'll probably give Playtime another watch in the future.

Okay, fair enough. I understand his significance. I'm now half way through Mr Hulot's vacation and this is the first Tati film I've ever seen. And I barely find it funny. Why is that, if he's a comedic genius? I will continue finish this film though I have to force myself. I feel other people did these gags before him much more successfully. And as you say there is not much more to hold onto other than the gags play out in real time. Which is an interesting idea.

connectingTheDots To be fair, I never said he’s a comedic genius and I never said Tati’s films are all funny. It’s more so about the filmmaking. How he directs attention through sound, timing, and composition; how he makes fun of social norms while telling us we should not take ourselves seriously, etc. In regards to humor, as contemporary viewers, they might be lost in time and translation.

@@YepItsHoward I'm watching a video about Jacques Tati, do you really think I don't know what humour is?
Also, I was making a joke, there's no need to be rude...
