I brought my aunt to see Liam Clancy in Kilkenny some years ago (as it turned out, it was our last chance to ever see him). We were way up in the balcony and, yet, it felt like we had him all to ourselves in the kitchen at home. He created an intimacy that is extremely rare for any entertainer. His capacity for entertaining was hypnotic, so much so that, when he said his signature goodbye ("Have ye no homes to go to?") it was like he clicked his fingers and I'd been awoken.
My dad used have this on a mix-tape with a crap ton of the Dubliners, simply titled "Irish Tape". Used to play it in the car when I was a kid. It's taken 15 years for me to find it haha, thank you for the upload :)
The many religions of man, and their attendant deceit and self-interest have never done it for me. But the honest fervency and love that poured forth out of Tommy Makem - now that's the real thing. Bless you Tommy. We owe you far more than we can ever say.
Best darn cover of this classic song. First heard Pete Seeger in concert sing this back in the 1980. I still have the Clancy Brothers albums. Boy, did I love them>
that one is my favourte song i love all there songs music and the lyrics and the poerty witch i love it rfedmins me of back home in Ifrelan d witch i come from
when your as famous as Liam and Tommy you too can employ the ledgend that is Arty McGlynn RIP to play guitar behind you. is that Des Hayes on Mandolin ?
The last time I had a garden, the Drug War Gestapo came down on me and charged me with felony gardening and felony gardening with a friend. It would be so wonderful if the alcohol supremacists allowed me to have a garden.

Found this during lockdown 2020

Fully agree with you Jeff..Two wonderful artists..
"Pulling weeds and picking stones, Man is made of dreams and bones." Fab lyric.
Absolutely brilliant song, reminds me of my father's stories.
Excellent version of that Maine song. If Dave Mallet were to never write another song, this one would be enough.
Amen.
I agree!🇺🇸
I saw them in concert several times, their live shows were really magic. I met them as well, they were really nice guys.
This so greatly shows the beauty of Tommy Makems voice
Love this version. I saw them in concert many-a-time and they were such great performers.

John Denver's version was quite magical. He was also a master.
This is the best version
Good memories!🇺🇸
Great to see a live version of this song.
I am the biggest Fan of The Clancy Brothers and Tommy makem
After myself, of course : )
"Inch by inch row by row, may GOD bless these seeds I sow" is how it should be....

They must have been some sight in their day at the garden. No wonder Bob Dylan loved them.
Like a finely tuned instrument
Saw them perform at Bishop Ford Central Catholic H.S.back in 1990.Brooklyn N.Y.Clancy Bros with Tommy Makem.

Must have sung the Cobbler just before this

This John Denver is covered well
Dave sings it more like the prayer I believe it is...but this is a pretty good version.
