I use the plastic brush blades. Verses the string/twine. It seems to last a lot longer and it doesn’t whip and twist around fencing etc. I have the 40v also but I think mine is a little newer model. It works fantastic ! The only issue I’ve come across is the batteries over heat. I hadn’t had the unit itself over heat like yours did. But I must say I am impressed with their product. I really like the chainsaw they offer. It’s a fantastic one!
I’ve had mine for like 3 years and I used it heavily. It is a bit under powered compared to a brushless model; but yeah mine started to smoke aswell. I let it cool down and it worked again, I sent it into Ryobi & I don’t think they did anything. Guess I’ll just keep using it till it completely goes.
Ive had mine for around 3 years. It just started smoking a couple of weeks ago. About halfway through my battery it starts up. Ive definitely gotten my moneys worth out of it. Will probably replace it as i have a few of the batteries and the pole saw and hedge trimmer attachments. I usually cut around 2 batteries worth of grass each use. Just now started this mess. I unhook the head, clean and oil the moving parts on the lower end and store it in the shed. Same with the other attachments and my big 40c leafblower.
Ive had going on 4.5 yrs now and i noticed a couple months ago at the beginning of spring that it was hot near battery compartment. It hasnt smoked but it shuts off on me a lot and gets super hot.
Have mine for about 2.5 yrs now . .. and I've put it thru hell a few times. the remedy is, u have to let them cool down.. u can feel the heat after a while of use.. then stop for a water break and continue.. shouldn't burn up .. the built in cooling fan just doesn't push enough air thru it under load
Austin!!! How do you move so fast I’m super impressed I need to pack up the family and move down we can start a landscaping company! But seriously my weed whipper went a few weeks ago and I need a new one, I guess we will see what I buy lol
mine started smoking after 2 years i ordered same one new it came started smoking in 15 min changed it for a 2nd one so 3rd same model it started smoking instantly and box had pen writing inside it so assuming returns or cheap refurbished. i got the brushless 2023 model now carbon fiber 2 speed no issues
Did u repair or replace it? The first I bought started smoking. Bought another because I have so many attachments. Second now sounds like yours and won’t power any of the ATT

I had mine for a year and it eventually just overheated and smoked till it stopped working anymore even at easy usage. 1 out of 5 stars here.
Brushed or brushless model?

How many acres per use? How many battery’s do you go through?
Just FYI, you should have received a crank tool to help reload that spool, rather than having to twist it with your fingers.
Funny seeing you hereRicky Ventures . We like some of the same channels 💕
2.5 years on mine and smoked too. 15 minutes then smoke. Fire will be next if I don’t replace it.

Yeah we didn’t get another one.
Did Ryobi replace or repair it?
Mine burnt up too. It finally died.
I had the same overheating problem and now it doesn’t work any recommendations???
Is this the brushed or brushless model?
the video is brushed.
I used like 5 times and this shit stop working and burned like yours
I hope it works for you . Maybe it was just burning oil away for the first use .
The motor is underpowered. I used mine 1 season, not even finished the string supplied when I bought it. It got hot, smoked and no longer works. Junk!
