From Sleeping on a Dirt Floor to $80K/Month in Passive Income

  • How do you go from absolute poverty to passive income in a short amount of time? What if you were raised on the other side of the world, where even a basic education had to be fought for, and every opportunity was a constant struggle? This is the real story of Yamundow Camara, who went from sleeping on a dirt floor in a small village of Gambia to making a million dollars per year thanks to real estate.
Yamundow grew up in an environment foreign to many of us. When her parents passed away in her youth, she was forced to live with relatives that treated her as a nuisance, not someone worth nurturing. She slept on the floor of her family’s home and was sometimes lucky enough to have a cardboard box as a mattress. She was set to be wed in her early teenage years, but thanks to her drive, determination, and pleading of her aunts, Yamundow was given a chance to go to high school and college and later immigrate to the US.
From there, Yamundow put success as her sole focus. She not only academically overachieved, but was able to do an INCREDIBLE amount of investing with almost no money, no credit score, and no experience in the industry. She now sits on over thirty rental units, with a monthly income that rivals most Americans’ yearly salaries. Yamundow has one of the most incredible stories we’ve ever shared on the podcast, and you’ll have to tune in to hear her unimaginable path to success.

    My biggest take away:
    1. Knowledge is power.
    2. Know your numbers. Data Analytics is critical.
    3. Challenge society norms. Don't take no for an answer.
    4. Partner with the right people. Relationships can make the impossible possible!!!
    5. Growth!! Start small and keep on moving.

My jaw is STILL on the floor minutes after finishing this; I am blown away at ALL of her accomplishments; from the scholarships & dodging an arranged marriage, to the move to the US alone, to the big jobs upon arrival, to the taking of a living arrangement & making that same strategy work for her in the BIGGEST way (way beyond what those students she lived with/ under could ever imagine), to the building of relationships with banks with no credit, to the digging in of financial losses landing her a long term contractor relationship; I mean, her thirst for knowledge & steadfastness to execute on the knowledge leaves me absolutely stunned… this girl IS A REAL LIFE SUPER HERO!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🎉🎊

I heard once that Not knowing is why some or many make it…. Even if you feel you are smarter sometimes it is just that, which holds us back, being raised here in the USA we are aware of all the what if’s ..! We are aware of all the horror stories with landlord tenant situations etc etc… so it is the knowing that stops us… Not knowing sometimes is your ticket because they move fwd fully believing this will be easy… when we know all the horror stories we believe it won’t be easy at all… like a 3 year old child he will jump off the the coffee table or approach the stairs with zero fear… meanwhile adults spend there time stopping the child from killing himself day after day..!!!

She sound like an African romance scammer . The story is full of 💩 from the start . In Africa , if you are dirt poor , you don’t get to go to school . In April 2020 , the best interest rate you can get is 3% on the 52k property with 8k down , your payment is almost $500, not $300.
Further more , no bank gonn finance you without great credit score and 2 year of W-2 or sufficient income from 1099 period .

This is my first time ever leaving a comment for a TH-cam video. I respect you so much Yamundow. I see your story as not as much of just a success story. During the whole video I looked at you and saw that little girl that nobody thought she could have a chance in her life. And even worse: Nobody wanted her to have a chance. They wouldn't be happy for you if you would succeed unless you pay-pay-pay-pay them and even then they would still feel like you owe them. And that little girl since very early age made herself work so very hard to be the best at school, which means better than anyone else that had parents and was loved and supported. I hope when your parents were alive you felt very much loved. You are absolutely my very hero. My mom lost her parents when she was 12 and she told me how tough life gets as soon as you lose parents. You become so vulnerable. You start feeling like you are less worth than any other people. You depend on people that don't want you. You are a burden for them. On public they will tell everybody how holy they are because they take care of you but everybody is just trying to use you. My mom looked strong and older than 12 and for this reason quite a few people wanted to adopt her for having extra free hands in the house. None of them cared for her wellbeing. They just wanted her to have no choice but work hard for them for free. Luckily she was in USSR where potential parents had to get through a thorough screening for their intentions for the child so none of those people was approved to adopt her. She grew up in an orphanage. She was the best at her school. She graduated from a very good college which was extremely hard to get to. To me your and her stories are similar. I am so happy you became such an educated smart woman that is not afraid of any difficulties

Being from Mali (west Africa) myself it is like night and day to see how my relatives live in Mali compared to the opportunities we have access to here in America. I learned at a young age that I was lucky to live here. I think that puts a voice in your head that since we have the opportunities to do better than we DO BETTER!. The pressure of helping family back home only grows but to see what you have done in 3 short years is AMAZING. Thank God your aunt kept fighting for your education. It is a shame how many others Yamu's the world will never know because of arranged marriages as a teenager in the African culture. You accomplished what most cant in a decade in 3 years. What I love about BiggerPockets is that they let their guests speak. So many of these other interview formats the hosts interrupt so much and basically take over the conversation. Here when they interrupt it's literally to transition the topic or solicit more information or a deeper understanding. They are not randomly interrupting the guest. I loved hearing Yamu's story. Thank you for giving her so much space to speak and tell her story so authentically. Kudos to this beautiful young lady! I am so proud of her and her journey.
