    This was the first Sabaton song I ever heard; I've been hooked ever since.
    I strongly suggest looking into their songs 40 to 1 and Uprising at Wacken

    Im not Christian, but I can totally respect them making a stand and fighting for what they believe in to the end.

    • @Gustav_Kuriga
      @Gustav_Kuriga 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This song is about the Swiss Guard defending the Pope against Protestant soldiers. They're all Christians killing each other over whose beliefs are correct. Not exactly something to "respect". Respect the Swiss soldiers for fighting to protect someone.

    • @Elurin
      @Elurin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @@Gustav_Kuriga "Christian" very loosely defined! Most of the wars and battles were politically motivated and driven by lust for power and conquest; very little to do with religion.

    • @Gustav_Kuriga
      @Gustav_Kuriga 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Elurin In this period? Religion was a HUGE part of wars. This entire war was about how much power the Pope could have. The Pope during this period wasn't just some figure in the Vatican, he was a ruler over his own territory and held political as well as military power. Religion would later play a huge part in the start of the 30 Years War. You know, only the most devastating European war barring the two World Wars.

    • @Elurin
      @Elurin ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Gustav_Kuriga No, if you study History deeper than high school level, you would see that Religion or Faith had very little to do with the big European wars. It was all about Money(wealth), Influence and Power.

    • @Gustav_Kuriga
      @Gustav_Kuriga ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Elurin So why did Ferdinand of Austria insist on the Edict of Restitution? That didn't increase Ferdinand's personal wealth, influence, or power. All that land would go back to the Church. It was a RELIGIOUS act in a war that was largely religious until its latter half. In fact the influence of religion being reduced after the Peace of Westphalia was largely caused by the 30 Years War lasting for an entire generation.

    One of my favorite underrated Sabaton songs ♥️ This and "The Last Battle" I don't hear many who listen to Sabaton talk about.
    (Even though its an album title song, it still often gets overlooked due to its religious story, which is a real shame. Religious or not; religion is a major part of History and still needs to be remembered for the amazing stories they are)

    I'm a New Sabaton fan. I literally stumbled on on one of their epic songs while doing research on German resistance fighters, Hitler and the Third Reich (I love research and writing). The first 2 song of theirs that I'd stumbled on was Uprising and Wehrmact. I'm also a fan of many different styles of music, especially ones that have a message. Especially if it has anything to do with histry and reminding people of the past because it's true, what we forget we are doomed to repeat. It had been literally years since I listend to hard rock music, and my first reaction when I realized it was music and not informational TH-cam video was to immediately stop the video and out of my mouth escaped one word: "WOAH!!" Then I unpaused, listened some more, the videos I stumbled on were their official lyric videos and I WAS GLUED. I didn't just hear them, didn't just listen to them sing, I was following along AND LEARNING. I checked out the description and was thrilled to find a link to more information about what they were singing about. It wasn't until after I had clicked on that link that I found out it was their history channel! Now I'm in heaven!!
    These are the things I love most: Jesus, Writing/Ressearching, Reading the word of God, Music AND History!! I have this habbit of making 'what I want to research and write about' Lists. (It's huge) my problem is there's so much I want to learn and write about, anyway, It is AMAZING to me to meet a hard rock group this talented who loves history as much as I do!! I'm still blown away.
    BTW, in case you're wondering just how 'new' I am to SABATON, I think it's either been a week or a week and a half, okay maybe 2 weeks, but definiately under a month. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!!

    Charles I the Emperor attacked the Vatican City on the 6th of May 1527 with 10 thousands German mercenaries, four or five thousands Spanish soldiers and some Italians. Swiss guards were 189 and only 42 survived, there were moving back and surrounded the Pope Clement VII who escaped through an elevated corridor to the Saint Angelo Castle. New Swiss guards appointment/ swearing and promotions are celebrated on 6th of May in memory of those who died defending the Vatican in 1527,

Winged Hussars doesn't have an official music video for it, but there is a stellar one that is fan made (and comes with subtitles) that uses footage from a movie that is about the Siege of Vienna. I recommend it! It goes well with the music and depicts what Sabaton is singing about very well. But, of course, it's up to you. I hope one day you get the chance to see them live. BTW the Sack of Rome marks a major point
    in Western European history
    The Italian high renaissance effectively ends
    with the Sack of Rome
    Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel Ceiling
    before the Sack
    Thirty years later he painted the Last Judgement
    in the same room and you can see that
    art has changed.
    Also English history was changed as Charles V
    was Catherine of Aragon's nephew
    and when Henry VIII wanted a divorce from her
    the pope was a captive of Charles V
    so he said no to the divorce
    pushing Henry into a break with Rome
    and England to the protestant side.

    This war was a struggle to establish which law trumped which. The rule of kings or rule of heaven (The Pope). The catholic church was a main political power and had been for 900 years (ever since it was put in power by the same Habsburgs that were fighting to Detroit it now) and in the wake of the reformation and rise of protestantism cathloc kings were now questioning The churchs right to meddle in earthly affairs (ie politics). Therefor it was a full on war in northern Italy and all the Popes troops and troops to church loyal nobles, princes and Kingston were tide up fighten there when one of the Habsburg armies decided to march on the now undefended holy city (the Pope had counted on the still catholic troops to at least keep thror respect for the sanxtity of reome. He was wrong) leaving the church royal troops behind.
