- The Terminator is a 1984 American science fiction action film directed by James Cameron, co-written by Cameron, Gale Anne Hurd and William Wisher Jr. and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, and Linda Hamilton. The film was produced by Hemdale Film Corporation and distributed by Orion Pictures, and filmed in Los Angeles. Schwarzenegger plays the Terminator, a cyborg assassin sent back in time from the year 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor, played by Hamilton. Biehn plays Kyle Reese, a soldier from the future sent back in time to protect Sarah.
Though not expected to be either a commercial or critical success, The Terminator topped the American box office for two weeks and helped launch the film career of Cameron and solidify that of Schwarzenegger. Three sequels have been produced: Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), and Terminator Salvation (2009), as well as a television series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008--2009). In 2008, The Terminator was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry, being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

I couldn't agree more. as much as I like 3 of the 6 sequels (2-4), none of them will ever be as good and/or better than the original. The Terminator, much like Alien, is already perfect as a stand alone movie. like lightning in a bottle, it can never strike twice.
I just wish this film got a definitive 4K release with a ton of special features, a great HD quality that doesn't have that god awful teal filtering (which is why the digibook release is still the best version of the film), and some new bonus features that would give it more of a reason to purchase again rather than the same old features that has been copied & pasted numerous times.

The best Terminator film out the lot. Terminator 2 was good but it doesn't beat the original made in 1984. The first is just more darker and serious than T2 but T2 was an excellent sequel.
I see that Terminator has ALWAYS been spoiling it's plots in the trailers. Honestly, I think Terminator Dark Fate is the LEAST spoilery trailer the series has ever made.

Remember Kyle Reese said that most of the records were lost during the war. Skynet knew almost nothing about Sarah Connor, her full name, where she worked, just the city that she lived in.

Yes. Also, the change from the original gunshot sound when he kills the first Sarah Connor and Ginger sounded much more ferocious and frightening in the original mono. Prefer that to the weak squeak gunshots in the remastered audio.

Classic because IT IS CLASSIC in its archtypes: hero saving damsel in distress from bad guy. All it is wrapped up in extremely original backstory, villain, and action scenes, plus a decent love story. 80s was definitely the best decade of modern cinema.
The Damsel also finished killing the Terminator. But I agree, we had a treasure chest in the 1980s with Aliens, The Terminator, Back to the Future, TRON, Indiana Jones, and that doesn’t even include kickass animated movies including Akira

Terminator 2 is a brilliantly made film. I liked that it focused on the story which saves it from being a generic action movie. But for me, it just didn’t have the grittyness and darkness of the original. I still love both movies though.

I find it interesting how the first terminator the whole films intention was to be a robot version of Micheal meyers horror like movie. But once t2 came out it turned it more into a hero like movie when the terminator was the good guy. Then after that it just kept being that way

I personally like the original over Terminator 2. My reasons are the first was darker and more violent plus Terminator 2 drags on the first one didn't. Terminator 2 feels like it never ends. 😂

The T1000 - more dangerous but doesn't kill everyone in his way (the truck driver obviously doesn't die), but I bet it's more because it's pragmatic, rather than out of geuinely caring.

I don't know exactly what it is - but Arnold's appearance in the first movie is so much creepier, more inhuman and somehow different than in any other Terminator movie.
It's not just because his face gets damaged and more and more of the metal skeleton appears underneath, because that happens in every movie. It's not because he's the villain here either, because I usually think villains are even cooler than the heroes. There is something subtle uncanny about his face and the way he looks and moves that is difficult to describe. As a child, I was also really scared of him.
In the second movie I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger with Terminator Makeup. Here I really saw a machine that was covered with a rubbery Schwarzenegger mask.

ЭТО ОБРАЗ. А понимать надо так. Джон Конор это Бог отец. Самый преданный ему человек это сын Божий Иисус Христос. Образ робота убийцы с искусственным интеллектом это образ дьявола. То что делал в фильме преданный Джону Конору человек это образ проповедования Иисусом Христом Заповедей Божьих(Заповедей Нового Завета). И вот так проповедовалось Божье слово, но всегда после, «приходил» дьявол и уничтожал его в умах людей. А Сара Конор это образ тех людей которые принимали Божье слово, и с которыми дьявол так и не смог справиться. А плод Сары Конор это образ плода покаяния человека вставшего на Праведный путь(дальнейшая жизнь исключительно по Заповедям Нового Завета). Но а что происходит с человеком дальше, это уже образ который зашифрован в фильме Терминатор 2. И вот как было бы хорошо, чтобы каждый зритель понимал это. Но это очень «тонкие» моменты, ПОНЯТЬ КОТОРЫЕ МОЖНО будет ТОЛЬКО ЧИТАЯ, И ГЛАВНОЕ, ИЗУЧАЯ КНИГУ ЖИЗНИ, СВЯТОЕ ЕВАНГЕЛИЕ.
Ну е если каждый человек сам захочет, «ВСТАТЬ» НА ПРАВЕДНЫЙ ПУТЬ, то для начала, нужно ПОВЕРИТЬ В БОГА, ПРЕСВЯТУЮ ТРОИЦУ: ОТЦА(СОЗДАТЕЛЯ ВСЕГО ЖИВОГО И НЕ ЖИВОГО, ВИДИМОГО мира и НЕ ВИДИМОГО), СЫНА(ИИСУСА ХРИСТА), СВЯТОГО ДУХА.

The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. The Terminator is a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing.
T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal.
I just wish we could get a new 5.1 remix for The Terminator. The .45 longslide should sound like a freaking cannon. The audience should be just as shocked and stunned by that weapon as the 35 year old Sarah Connors neighbors after the Terminator blew her head off. Theres an interesting deleted scene revealing the aftermath where Sarah Connors neighbors are running around in complete panic mode. But the newest 5.1 remix makes all of these bad**s weapons sound like squeaky toys, including the shotguns. You cant feel anything from a sound effect like that.
