What's funny is how big the houses are today. Today you have a dad watching football in his man cave, mom watching TV in the living room, kids in their rooms, all playing with tablets and phones. Families are miles apart now. Nobody is happy with a 2400 sqft home and $250k mortgage. Nobody NEEDS that. If homes were built properly today with passive solar techniques energy bills would be cut by 80% over the life of a structure, on top of making it more affordable to own a home. America does next to nothing right.

I am soon to be Mortgage Free, No rent, no one to answer to, all mine I built my house in 2002 on 2 acres in Florida, brand new 3 bdrm 2 bath 3 car garage, 1850 sq ft. I am a single woman with no help and I did this all on my own. made one a half payments per month that's 13 years, and to boot I just had to put in a new pump and well for 4200 dollars ... my mothers' favorite saying was LESS IS BEST

Hi Becky I love your videos and have found them so helpful and interesting. I sold up in the suburbs of a big city in Australia and to become mortgage free before I retire (at 65, but I'm only 63), I had to move to another state 2.5 hours flying time away from my children and grandchildren. I am so loving my country life on 2 acres, learning how to drive a ride on mower, to dig and grow veg gardens and care for my two chickens who are delightful and still laying every day in winter.
I miss my family a lot, have found I have quite severe arthritis hands and feet, live on a gentle sloping block in a 100 year old house that I'm doing up, have not found income as yet, a bit concerned about my finances but loving it all. No matter what life changes we choose to experience, there will always be challenges , however it's all do-able even at my age. I've only been here 9 months!! Keep up your videos as I'm loving the learning and fully agree with you. You look fantastic by the way. Love Lynne

Becky, you are such an encouragement to us. So much of what you have done just takes courage to step out and try it. We have taken several steps toward that dream and guess what? We haven't died yet, and the Lord has provided friends to help when we needed it. Thank you for being there to cheer us on as we continue our journey.

It does make sense to pay your mortgage off early however I believe it is generally recommended that you take a longer mortgage rather than a shorter one in case you run in to trouble financially. By paying it off earlier you still avoid the interest, but it is less risk if for some reason you are unable to pay it.

To pay off a mortgage fast, you do not need a 15 yr loan or high payments. You can go to your amortization table you should have received at the loan closing and simply pay the next month(s) principal payment IN A SEPARATE CHECK when you make your regular payment. Be sure to put in the description ;line "Principal payment for months xx through xx. Your mortgage will have payment months from 1-360 for a 30 yr mtg & 1-180 fpr a 15 yr mtg. As you knock down the principal, you knock down the massive interest you WOULD HAVE PAID, and can pay off early, depending how much you can spare to do this each month.
This method will save you a huge amount of money you would have to pay for a 're-finance'.
You can prob go to the old Title Co who closed your loan to obtain an Amortization Table for about $15, if you did not get one or have lost it.

Agree whole-heartedly! The most cost effective approach is to negotiate for the lowest possible monthly payment, for the longest mortgage period, even if you have to give up some on the interest rate. Then, every dollar extra that you pay beyond that low monthly payment goes straight to the principal. If you agree to a higher monthly payment in your original negotiations, you are cutting off your ability to make payments toward the principal. And the sooner you make those extra payments, the more they are worth.

I have found a good reason (for me that is) to keep working 40 + hours after I paid my mortgage off. I was about 50 when I paid it off and realized after a couple of years, that my 401k and my savings was growing very quickly. As a result, it looks like retirement will be doable for me at 55. I live a simple life and don't need a lot of extravagances so I am living on less than 1/4 of my income so will be able to live on much less after I retire.

      That's a good option.
Same here and I'm retiring 20 years early in 2020.
But I have a feeling this woman has money working for her as well.
I will have at least $60k a year in tax free dividends and that is just one of my income sources along with other passive income, pension, social security, annuity, emergency fund,etc..

People shouldnt look at home ownership as an investment to make more money, they should look at it as a path to be debt free and live cheaper than renting, that's why homeownership works.

Yes, and No...Yes you won't have the mortgage payment, just like you won't have a car payment when it's paid off..... But, just like the car, you will have to continue to pay the theft fee called taxes....And if you don't pay the theft fee, your property is taken from you by force at gunpoint and sold to pay it.
Until we stand against the thieves as a nation, we will never actually "own" anything bigger than a briefcase without paying in perpetuity for it.

      MrTrekFanDan
She said to lower her overhead as much as possible.
I pay $1700 a year personal property tax and not $1700 month. Mortgage paid off. Never a monthly car payment.
My my entire household expenses including personal property tax, condo fee, and home/auto insurance is $1400 a month and I live in an upper middle class area where everyone around me pays more than that in mortgage/rent alone. My take home pay is more than $8k a month.
Many of you are probably in too expensive area in over your head with mortgage, debt, personal property tax, divorce rape, weaponized child support,etc.. And much of this you've created yourself.
Find it strange when people complain about taxes and still get married, having kids, large homes,etc...
Oh yeah. A lot of you need to look up homestead laws.
      Even my condo is protected.

@@blackworldtraveler3711 Not sure what area you live in but some of us can't move to a lower tax area because we have jobs we need to live near to which might also give us good health insurance. I would love to pay $1,700 a year but it's impossible in my part of the state. As for kids and getting married, we have love to share with others and don't want to live a lonely, miserable life. It's a shame if you don't do those things because of money. Money isn't everything!

      Cherokee Purple
My home is in Tulsa. Also a condo on Marco Island(also with homestead exemption), apartment in Rome that’s a rental with mini apartment for myself, and a restored Italian farmhouse in Lugano Switzerland with lake/mountain views and palm trees that’s a B&B
      3 months a year.
      All paid off.
I guess if you’re afraid you will live a miserable lonely life you should risk divorce rape and weaponized child support.....get married and have all the kids you want.
      It’s up to you.😄
And money is everything no doubt about it.
I’ve been off work without pay on sabbatical since October without pay have you?
Better to utilize money to work for me and spend less like having free lifetime global flight benefits.
Which is why I can take 3-4 months off each year without pay and retiring 15 years early paying zero premiums for health insurance until Medicare kicks in.
If been to 57 countries so far, speak five languages, girlfriend with her own wealth and don’t need me financially, have taken each of my nieces and nephews to at least 5 countries to explore, learn, and reinforce whatever foreign language they’ve learned in school and even have them contributing to their Roth IRAs at 14 years old with an “uncle match”. Financial freedom to do what I want from visiting mom to running business in Switzerland.
My girlfriend and I just back from Brazil for Rio Carnival. Been traveling through New Zealand,Cooks, most of the Pacific Rim and Hong Kong since October.
      Can’t complain.
      The adventure continues.
      Do whatever works for you.

      Indeed.
Always find it weird that people think that marriage and kids is the only way and everyone else is sad and miserable.
Then say money isn’t everything when they have to go to work everyday most of them paycheck to paycheck because of marriage and kids for money whether they like it or not.

Becky the one thing you do not talk about are "property TAXES" If you do not earn a pay check How do you pay "property TAXES", because where I live if you do not pay your property taxes for 3 years THEY WILL TAKE YOUR PROPERTY for back TAXES?

    • @blackworldtraveler3711

Probably because it's very little for her and nothing to be concerned with. This woman isn't stupid.
There's a reason her title says "homestead"......look it up.
Even my condo is under homestead law.
I pay $1700/yr. and it's nothing to me because I have no mortgage as well. It freezes when I retire and homestead. Also it's less than 3 days pay each tear anyway.
Looks like she has only roads to maintain and maybe police and fire but no river parks, libraries, bike trails, schools, and whatnot like my area.
If you are worried about being delinquent on your personal property taxes you moved to an home/area you could not afford and in over your head.

Yes, and once you pay off your mortgage to the bank the bank still actually holds leins on your property. Real property is used to collateralize government loans from the banks.
It is nice not to have a monthly fee without interest, but pity most without a mortage still don't actually own their "own" property, still have to pay rent to the government (tax) and are subjects of feudalism. Have you checked into an allodial title? One does not actually own their property unless they have an allodial title. Most property "owners" have never even heard of this. Some call it a land patent and Allodial title means supreme ownership: www.1215.org/lawnotes/work-in-progress/landpatent/landpatent-propertytax.txt

Good luck getting an allodial title! That's a banished word in most states. You are correct though, if you pay taxes it ain't your land. It flies in the face of "ownership". Try not paying property taxes and see how fast the law shows up to seize YOUR property. In the end, when you die someone else will own it so we truly never own anything. We're just part time renters of all our physical possessions.

    • @brown55061
      @brown55061 9 ปีที่แล้ว

You really paid $12,000/yr in property tax?? That's insane! Either way, glad you were able to get an alodial. My state has no clause for this in the laws unfortunately. Thanks for posting that though, what state are you in?

Yearly taxes would still be less than the mortgage though🤷🏽‍♀️. She said nothing about living completely bill free. Just mortgage free. It still costs money to exist lol. Gas, water, electricity bills don’t go away unless you’re ok doing without. My mortgage including taxes is currently $1100 a month yet if I got rid of what I owed the bank and only pay taxes that decreases my bill to $225 a month.
