@@Will_Rules false. In Saw 1 there are other scenes that show him, you just don't see who he is until the end because he has a robe over his head. He plays massive roles in Saw 2 and 3. He is the only consistent character throughout the entire franchise regardless of flashbacks.
When Hoffman showed up in the end credits, my theater went insane and I'm hoping this gives us an idea for his future of the franchise, and he might get a prominent role in the next film like Amanda did in this film

Cinematography is meh, art the clown is scary but is so over power that its become boring. I give the credit for gore but it look so fake unlike saw. Atleast its mid budget movie with good moral of protagonist/ antagonist and unique trap every film.
At the showing I was at the crowd was a 50/50 ghasp and owwww. It was cool. Not since the joker killing Murray had I been in a group where the whole theater was in a collected awe struct state

I was disappointed he was just in one scene. Waited 10 years just for Hoffman to be BACK....for a reveal mid credits scene lmao. I need a sequel where Hoffman is ALIVE. Maybe he was the one who picked up Eleanor at the end of Jigsaw and he's been training Logan about the role. Revealing how he survived Saw 7 since he is an escape artist.
@BmanTheChamp well Eleanor isn't in the timeline but Logan is in the timeline at the point of Saw X, but I think he would he in the military at this point, so it's likely Hoffman and Amanda don't know he exists.
When Gabriele had her neck broken, my theatre screamed, "NO!!". They made us actually care about one of the victims to the point where we cheered when she lived, and was sad when she was killed immediately after. As for the post credits... Biggest cheer of the movie. The second his face appeared, there was an explosion of cheers and applause.
I wasn’t surprised when Hoffman appeared because this is a prequel after all, and we already knew that Hoffman and Amanda were working with Jigsaw at the same time
I think Cecilia killing Gabriella works as maybe a catalyst for Amanda to start making unwinnable traps. She clearly felt for Gabriella and Cecilia might be the first victim in all the movies that truly looked unrehabilitable and undeserving of a fair game.
An arguement I can see exists like Amanda being that terrified and finding out some of these guys are THAT ruthless to start with... perhaps that arguement is there that Amanda's emotions boiled up and well, doesn't take much to create seemly unwinnable traps... It's also a discussion that Amanda and John have about it... the game must go on indeed
Amanda was cruel and making unwinnable traps in Saw 3 because of what happened to her in Saw 2. She was thrown into the needle pit which was someone else's trap, and he was 2 seconds away from getting his antidote and surviving without his trial. That made her stop believing in John's method of rehabilitation
I also think its because of what happened in saw X too. Cecilia killed the one she related most too that she wanted to survive above all, she was genuinely distraught. This coupled with the continued cruelty of test victims through the needle pit like you mentioned made her believe that no one is worth redeeming, and John's work is better used as a twisted vigilante retribution instead of rehabilitation
every 3 minute trap in the movie is 3 minutes in real time. for matteo’s trap he said on the tape not to waste time, and he wasted nearly a full minute at the start refusing to do it. love the attention to detail on the clock by the creators
It's funny you mention that. Cuz I believe people hated in previous movies where they give the people in the trap like 3-5 mins and it feels like the waste most of the time before starting to play the game and it's like time isn't moving at all. I'm glad it's in real time on Saw X.
the empathy i felt for him was actually insane he almost made me cry man. he showed his emotions and showed how he is vulnerable, how he is human. sometimes it is hard to forget that. but this showed his humanity and it didn’t do so in a way that tried to redeem him which is rare
The beginning definitely had me almost shed a tear just the look on his face when he believed he would be cured got me and that had me ready for these people to be tested
There was also a detail I loved in this film. (Spoiler) When they removed Valentina’s intestine, Amanda was not disgusted picking it up & throwing it away.. Because for her test, she had to dig through her cellmate’s intestines to find a key. Kevin knows what he’s doing! 😃
That is a cool detail that plays into the fact that Cecilia knew all along she was scamming Jigsaw- she WANTED John Kramer to go after her so he would kill off her accomplices and she and her money could get away with the money scott free. In fact you can even notice in Cecilia's board of victims, she rather noticeably undercharged John, only charging him $250K instead of her usual $450K.
how were you supposed to use the saw? also i think it would be safe to assume she didnt anticipate the radiation canon thing moving after gabby so i think it made sense for her to say that there
@@mauricey4477 she would have dropped a lot sooner if she did her hand first. Also assuming the cannon would follow down that low, she could just kinda run around and dodge it. It makes much more sense to do the hand first.
I feel terrible for Gabriela. Breaking her hand and foot, suffering from radiation burns, winning her trap, just to get killed by the doc. And I also feel like Kramer should have let Valentina slide. She sawed off her leg and almost got the amount of marrow she needed, he honestly should’ve stopped the machine but it is what it is.
Nah he told Mateo & Valentina don't hesitate & they both wasted almost a full minute & they were both less than 10 seconds away from surviving. This means John actually gave them more than enough time to survive but they just didn't listen.
To me Amanda was easily the best part of the movie. Both for her dynamic with John, and for how her personality here contrasts with 3 in which she doesn't think anyone deserves a chance for redemption.
Totally. It was great seeing her still have hope in John's "methods" - but I also loved how you can see her starting to doubt based on what happens in this game. Doubting that people can't be "saved." Also this biatch Pedersen deserved John's punishment more than anyone in his games. She was crazier than Jigsaw himself.
It just felt like a SAW movie for the sake of it… The ending was poor. And it didn’t really tie in to any of the other SAW films. Good movie but felt let down how it didn’t tie in. 😢
I’ve been hearing everyone say that the ending trap was meant for John and Amanda, but what I took away from the “one way or another” line was that the blood-boarding trap was meant for Cecilia and Parker and the gas trap was just a plan b if they escaped. I don’t think the movie ever implied it was meant for John and Amanda. Even the trap itself is based on selfishness like the gas trap, because I would assume Cecilia and Parker would each try to blood-board each other to live. Just a thought.
You're wrong because that's why the shackles had hand releases in them. They were designed to be released by the people wearing them. Also if it was designed for Cecilia and Parker, then John wouldn't have released Parker from his chains. There was also no cassette tape for that trap.

I was honestly on the verge of checking out of the Saw series after I was left feeling disappointed by Spiral. But, Saw X brought back my interest in spades. Easily the best Saw movie since 1 and 2. I was genuinely shocked by how much character development was given to both John Kramer and Amanda.
I think this is the best route to go with the series at this point Sweet grandpa John Kramer and his quirky adopted daughter Amanda putting terrible people in traps lol
Here's a theory for the next Saw movie that could also show Amanda's descent into thinking people can't be rehabilitated. Maybe Celcillia comes back and either A starts up a new scam under a new name showing she hasn't been rehabilitated or B tries to go after John again showing she hasn't truly learned her lesson. Heck why not do both? That way it explains her being super protective of John and it could show why she thinks that traps don't rehabilitate any more because the doctor is up to her old tricks.
I doubt Cecilia goes after John, but rather she just keeps on scamming and Amanda finds out and ends up putting Cecilia is an unwinnable trap because she thinks John's methods don't work.
@oldmedstudent1750 I'm definitely thinking she will start up another scam. The money was too good and important to her. John would learn about it because Hoffman could be keeping tabs on her. I think she might go after John for a couple of reasons. 1 is she is a very vindictive woman. She lost a lot of money and could've died in that trap. 2 is John is a loose thread. He knows too much about her past scam and can put her newest scam at risk. The third reason is what a great way for the hunter to become the hunted in a way sort of. Not to mention Amanda would be protective of John as well if he was put in that kind of situation. Shows more of a human angle of John as well, like a vulnerable side possibly.

Saw X blew me away. It is officially one of my favorite Saw movies. While amazing, my only gripe is not seeing the eye vacuum trap in reality and Cecilia not dying… …which gave me an idea. Cecilia is the perfect candidate for the eye vacuum trap. Here’s why: - She’s shown John that she has a sickness inside her that “needs to be exiled”. - She has “sticky fingers”, stealing people’s money and accomplices’ lives. - She should also be given 30 seconds to break her fingers. Since she showed no hesitation fucking with John’s game or killing Gabriela and Patrick, she hopefully shouldnt show reluctance to break her fingers. - Unlike the dream sequence, I think Cecilia’s eye vacuum should be way more powerful. Not just removing her eyes, but large chunks of her brain too. In my headcanon, she chickens out like the custodian and dies. >:)
I think they left Cecilia alive to continue the story and kill her off in the next movie. So that possibility makes me be fine with her surviving for now.

I would like to think the only reason he needed the insurance to cover the surgery in Norway was becuz he lost all his money on Cecilia's scam. But the fact that he got all the money back in the end and gave it to Carlos blows my mind. He could have taken his initial $250k back and paid for the surgery in Norway the entire time. It seems like a plot hole to me.
John had money and LOTS of it. He wanted to use his insurance since he had been paying for it. Easton told him that if he sought treatment elsewhere, he would be dropped from his medical coverage completely.
The fact that i was genuinely heartbroken for Amanda with the Gabriella arc IS INSANE because i know what Amanda goes on to do in future movies :') Such an incredibly well done movie and honestly possibly my new favourite addition to the franchise
I tried to bring the hype to the theatre when Hoffman appeared by shouting “WOOO” and it worked 😂 I too thought that the leg trap was insane and got a little angry that they died seconds before surviving. I was very pleased with this movie!

Yes! I was thinking the same about Carlos, especially since they said the ending will hint as to where the series could go next. The Battle of the Apprentices would be the best way (imo) to warp up the franchise.
Bringing in Dr Gordon would actually make sense he has been working with Jigsaw since Saw 2 providing surgical expertise in his traps so having Gordon come back to help deal with another psycho Dr only makes sense
the gigli saw trap had me wincing so hard, dude.. i'm okay with seeing a foot amputation like in the original, but seeing an entire leg getting amputated i just can't 😭 hoping they make another one set between 2 and 3 with both Amanda and Hoffman helping John!
Yeah I watched it in the theater last night, and that was the only trap that had my stomach turning a little bit. I had to stop eating my chicken tendies for around 20 minutes.
I really enjoyed the direction they took in this movie! Only thing albeit a petty thing I disliked is when billy rode out and we didn’t get the iconic laugh

You made mistake with Valentina trap: she had to suck her bone marrow from her femur bone not blood....This was the best and the most brutal trap in the movie with awesome realistic gore. Mateo trap was great also but his dead wasn't that great imo. Eye vaccum trap was great and I like that it was in John's head, expanding and showing Johns thinking process.
Thing is, she didn't NEED to cut her whole leg off- she just needed to reach the bone to suck the marrow out. Cutting the whole leg was a waste of time.
the thing that was so good about the pipe bomb trap is that it was so simple, but executed so well. the pacing and choreography of the whole thing was really good
If and when there is a Saw 11 (that will most likely be a prequel movie to fill in gaps for the franchise while still being "new" enough for non Saw fans), I hope that Celia gets a proper trap and hopefully one made by Amanda since Celia is a prime example of people not being "rehabilitated". I personally was not satisfied with her just hanging out and being left there. Maybe she'll be one the first victims of the infamous unwinable Amanda traps.

Your theory about Cecilia being the big bad wanting revenge on Jigsaw is really interesting. She was definitely shown as the one Saw victim that ‘breaks him’ like an arch nemesis. She is something else. The fact she was played by a Norwegian actress is chef’s kiss 😘 A villain that’s kinda badass that you love to hate. Poor Gabriela though they made her most likable out of all the characters reminds me of Anika from Scream 6 a character with limited screentime but everyone just loves and are sad when she died. 😢

I think they set up a really interesting sequel by having Cecelia survive to the end. She’s actually very crafty and manipulative throughout Saw X and is a great character foil for Jigsaw go up against.
Exactly, perfect protagonist or in this case antagonist for John because in this movie John was actually the empathetic character we were all rooting for. Cecilia meanwhile had no morals, was conniving, and a worthy foe for John.
Amanda might have started making unwinnable traps because of Cecilia killing Gabriella and putting John and ____ in the trap. To her, Cecilia is irredeemable.
I love your idea with Carlos. Gordon, William, Logan and (maybe) Hoffman are all still alive. Carlos putting the four of them in a game would be brilliant. I’d like to see Saw 11 be between 2 & 3/4 with Cecilia coming back for revenge and finally dying, and then Saw 12 be present day with Carlos killing the other remaining apprentices to wrap up the franchise. Maybe we can get a streaming series or something afterwards where each season is a new set of detectives investigating a copycat who isn’t directly related to John (since Spiral made it clear that there have been several unrelated copycats since John died).
Amanda also kind of killed Gabriella because of she went through her trial before Matteo they could have brought her to a hospital without Cecelia stomping on her

When Hoffman showed up, there were a few "YEEEESSSS" in my audience. And I will admit, I was one of them. Great movie. I don't know if I like it more than Saw 2 or 6, but I think it comfortablly goes in at 3 for now.
The scene where John throws away his plans for next trap is so damn powerful. You can tell, early in his career as Jigsaw, John had some doubts about the dark road he was heading down and had the procedure been legit, there would've been no more jigsaw. But the tragedy is is that we know that can't happen. So heartbreaking.
It was nice to see a soft and human side to John. Telling Carlos not to pull the lever and how he wanted to protect him. I was wondering what would happen and my ❤ sunk when Carlos took one for John
Me and my buddy watched it in theaters I dressed as Billy the puppet and he went as the pig and we had pretty accurate/ expensive outfits and people flipped when they saw us and we got so many pictures and comments it was a fun day. And when Hoffman came at the end I lost it. This movie was fire for sure
Ok as much as im burnt out on Jigsaw apprentices, the Carlos Finale sounds amazing. In my opinion, because of the trap, he saw John in a different light than any of the apprentices. In a weird way, they share a bond.
Nah. Although I didn’t mind Logan and loved William Schenk, most people’s criticisms of Jigsaw and Spiral is with all of these new apprentices. Which would be hypocritical to then make Carlos one after a timeskip if that’s the main complaint.
My laugh was when John told Carlos 'lets get you home.' I turned to my husband and said 'like that?? he's going to walk into his house covered in blood with a bag of money?' For some reason that made me giggle.
I think for the next one, the best way to explain Amanda’s descent into making unwinnable traps would be to use the hate she has shown toward Cecilia in the movie as a catalyst to use with Hoffman influence. Kramer wouldn't want to kill Cecilia because it's not how he plays. We know Hoffman is not scared to kill criminals with unwinnable traps, as he did before he was found by Jigsaw. Amanda would be torn between Jigsaw ideologies and the satisfaction of killing her. So when she would come back in the next movie not rehabilitated and wanting revenge, after some trials and error, Amanda would snap and Cecilia would become the first victim of an unwinnable trap. It would close the gap between saw x and the rest of the series and explain in a simple way how her views changed!
Ngl when I saw Hoffmann I was like “wow they somehow made his de-aging look way better than Amanda’s”. Also I kind of believe that when Cecilia killed Gabriela may have started to push Amanda into believing no one can change.

Thats acc a very good idea about the saw x sequel. And yes i would absolutely love to see a continuation to this story and to see costas mandylor back as hoffman playing a much bigger role. I feel like we need to see more hoffman amanda interactions that led to their sour rivalry and also the downfall of amanda after the nerve gas house game. Sadly after this i dont see much potential for future saw sequels. But I'll be honest 1-4 are the stories and continuity that people care about the most.
My mom figured out the black guy was in on it and we went crazy when Hoffman showed up cause man this movie was awesome we loved every sec and was hiding our faces 😂
I think it can make the saw franchise connect beautifully if they make Carlos turn out to be william from spiral , having Hoffman put him into protective custody after the events of this film, giving a lot more insight and reasoning as to why william had access to jigsaws engineering talents especially considering how close Mexico and California are to each other!
I felt the actors deserved Oscars for their acting. I especially thought the girl who played Valentina be a future scream queen. Plus her death was the most painful to watch.
Was i the only one that didnt fully understand how the doctor knew that John was jigsaw? Like by that time was it public knowledge? Like john wouldve been arrested at the airport or something, other wise than that i freaking loved the movie and im happy to see so many people agree on that, hoping for a new movie🙏🏻

I love the fact how Sax X ties in with Saw 3 with Amanda not wanting to let the collar of the doctor. And also when Amanda mentioned she was a murder and John said I despise murders, because of Saw X and what he saw.
I think they'll make an X trilogy, with Saw XI having Hoffman and Kramer and then Saw XII having Gordon and Kramer. I could see a Fast & Furious type of thing where we spend a few movies leading up to the third movie.

The only time i had to look away was valentines leg saw trap. I genuinely couldn't look. I haven't looked away from a saw film since the needle pit trap in saw 2. Overall i think its a really good movie well done to all the team.
I was also pleasantly surprised with this movie and would argue its probably the best one since the first one. I think alot of this comes down to more screen time with Tobin Bell, a 30-45 minute backstory and who's in the traps and why as opposed to random flash backs and the actual twists and turns in the movie. I agree with you there needs to be more survivors of these traps though and I think the directors need to let go of this double edged sword where people complete their task but the blood doesn't drip fast enough or whatever. Once a movie fine but eye vaccum guy broke 4 fingers, Gabrielle survives to be killed later, Valery or whatever her name is, cuts her leg off doesn't get enough marrow. Matteo cuts his brain out, doesn't melt in time. Kinda counter acts that "do you have what it takes to survive?" Quote because clearly they do.

First of all, it is so special that Tobin came back to film this at almost 80 years old ❤ Since the movie focused a lot on Tobin & Shawnee, audiences were able to see just how masterful both of them are as actors & watching them come together again was so special! I just finished watching it and I LOVED IT, especially seeing a return of Hoffman 😈 Watching Tobin, Costas & Shawnee was also so special, especially to learn mlre about the relationship between John & Amanda ❤ I have nothing but gratitude for Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Leigh Whannell, James Wan, Kevin Greutert, & the rest of the incredible Saw team for such a brilliant film! (Oh and a HUGE thank-you to Costas because that was my favorite part! I literally started clapping when he appeared on screen 😂)

Great idea alex, gave me a similar idea that can never happen: John puts every single of his apprentices in a massive room where they all have traps. A final trap to determine who would be the most worthy to continue his legacy. You get hoffman,amanda,logan,dr lawrence,willaim, and then you could also add other villains such as dr cecillie,zep,and jill tuck.
Saw it on Thursday, just got back from seeing it a second time. On Thursday my theater had less than 10 people, but a good 4 or 5 of us clapped and "woo"d when Hoffman showed up at the end!! I was so excited man
The way I see it, there's a few options for Saw XI. -A direct sequel to Saw X set before Saw 2. Hopefully this one would include Obi Tate, more Hoffman, and Cecilia seeking revenge. -A film set inbetween Saw 2 and Saw 3. This one could highlight the tensions building between Hoffman and Amanda prior to John's death. -A film set directly after Saw 7, continuing Hoffmans story. I doubt Cary would return as Dr Gordon, but I'm sure they could work around that. This is the film people have been begging for for over a decade. -A film set in modern day continuing from Saw 7. I like to imagine that the police came to the bathroom and arrested Hoffman. This one could either have him escaping jail and carrying on as Jigsaw, or being interviewed like Hannibal Lector, giving us lots of flashbacks. This could be combined with one of the previous ideas. -A film set inbetween Saw 6 and Saw 7. There was a largeish time gap here. We know that Hoffman likely did some sort of games here because 3 of his neighbours seen in Saw V are survivors in the Saw 7 group. This could cover that game if the three actors could return. -Spiral 2. I personally liked spiral, but it's inferior to the main series. I only want this if it's made side by side with a proper Saw film, so we don't miss out on real Saw. -Jigsaw 2, God please no. This is a horrible idea. Just forget Jigsaw ever existed, it ruins everything. -A new fresh story. Maybe another 'From the Book of Saw' film about a copy cat. Could be cool, but it's not what the fans want. I think Saw Xs reception shows that most fans want John and Hoffman. If they do any more prequels then I hope we get lots of cameos from all the old Saw characters. Imagine a scene with Rigg, Kerry, Hoffman, Matthews, and Fisk all in the police station together. We only ever Saw 3 max together before. Or imagine John, Hoffman, Amanda, Jill and Obi all working on a game together. They have the ability to give us this. Honestly I'll be happy with whatever as long as it has no connection with Jigsaw 2017.

Very simple way to continue the series, my friend. Firstly, we MUST have costas mandylor back as hoffman is playing a much bigger role. The whole gimmick of this movie is that it was placed between 1 and 2, so this is basically saw 1.5. Obviously, John dies in 3/4, so that only leaves potential for one more movie in this style to be made. Saw XI or Saw 2.5. A movie without tobin Bell alive and in action is not the same, and it's the reason the other movies failed, so this would be the only option. What we need are some more hoffman amanda interactions to set up their sour rivalry and also the downfall of Amanda's mentality after the nerve gas house game. The thing is the stories and continuity that people care the most about is the 1-4 era before and leading up to the death of jigsaw so I'm sure another movie in this style would be another good hit. However, this leaves little potential for many saw sequels after this.
@@yashee3421 I agree with your idea. But I actually believe we can fit multiple films in that gap before Saw 2. The bathroom trap in Saw 1 takes place in October 2004. Saw X is weeks later, so probably November or December 2004. Saw 2 doesnt take place until November 2005. (this is all confirmed by dates given in the films). So we have about an entire years gap with nothing but Michael's iron maiden trap, that we can fill in with Saw X sequels. Also, theres a six month gap between Saw 2 and Saw 3, as confirmed by Hoffman in Saw 4, so there's another 6 months worth of room for prequels before John and Amanda die. The Saw films are already pretty farfetched with how much work the Jigsaw Killers can do in a short space of time, so they can probably just fill in these two gaps in indefinitely if it's what the fans want, without damaging the continuety.
@@Will_Rules I feel like it's kinda cheap to bring hoffman back in that way. I get it the whole. If we don't see a dead body, they ain't dead, but like, hoffmans downfall was quite good, imo and I don't really want them to retcon that. Also, the main reason this movie was as good as it was was that we saw Tobin Bell in the flesh as John kramer, instead of cheap flashbacks. The continuity after saw 4 isn't really cared about by many fans because there's no real jigsaw. So it makes more sense to leave that as it is and follow the same formula they've created now. What they've done is absolutely genius, filling in the gaps of the timeline so we can see more John Kramer in action
This movie was great I love all the small details and Easter eggs. Especially with the previous saw films. Hoffman being sly mentioned then showing up was definitely amazing
I kinda assumed Cecilia was gonna die. Unless I missed something she was left trapped in the room right? I assumed John left her there to die even though she won, because she bought Carlos into the game
Great spoiler review! I watched Saw X today, and absolutely loved it. One thing: I never thought the blood seesaw trap was deaigned for John and Amanda. I thought it was designed for Cecilia and Parker, with the gas trap room as a back up, just in case. Parker pponts out that if Cecilia was meant to be the last survivor, why was her trap a two-perspn trap. Just my thoughts, anyway. Great review as always, i hope we continue to talk about Saw X for some time to come.
My theater was dead silent (of course the gasps and cringe sounds). Most got up before the Hoffman part and left, but some stopped on the way out to watch. I wish I had a respectful, but more reactionary crowed. I loved the movie, I felt soooo bad for John, and had to keep reminding myself he's the villain.
20:36 - An arguement is there for Cecilia's story to continue but could see Saw 11's starting bit being involving her somehow... or a feel of Carlos having his own "Book of Saw" film but that's more my weight... Perhaps learning her fate could be related to the Opening action this time? Who knows

Just watched it an hour ago, and I personally can say that I loved it!! Definitely kept me drawn in, acting was so good from John and his helper…this movie makes me want to binge watch the whole franchise again
I just wonder why John would use blood on the final trap if he knew he was going to be a part of it and not Dr Cecelia? A water boarding trap would still be lethal and wouldn't alert her to the fact that it's a decoy. John kinda owned himself there.
He mentions in saw 5 or 6 when kidnapping Hoffman that he leaves nothing to chance. I think he was hoping it would play out with Cecelia and Parker as they have “blood on their hands” and used the gas room as a backup plan if they escaped similar to Cecil’s trap when he sidestepped the razor wire.
Parker would’ve won the water boarding game because he was stronger. Both games were about them working together… if they would’ve kept taking turns they could’ve both “won” but the dr was going to try to save herself anyways.
Yes! Not gonna lie I was okay with “Jigsaw” but didn’t like “Spiral”… ever since Logan was revealed to be an apprentice and then we got William, I was like at some point they must fight. And when you think about it, Carlos really did survive a trap and would probably make sure John’s work is respected instead of used for revenge.
Why would Logan and William fight lol? If anything, I feel like they’d actually work together because, although their reasonings were different, it was ultimately out of revenge. It’s likely they know each other exist though but will never interact. I hope we get a continuation with all of them. Zeke, Logan, Eleanor, and William. It would really tie up everything to bring these characters back
I genuinely fell asleep in the early to mid half for 20 minutes of this film, and it still made total sense... AND was probably one of the best saw film
I highly recommend seeing it in theaters. Being able to gauge the reactions of the rest of the audience and collectively cringe alongside them when things got gruesome was a pretty good time.
They wrote John beautifully for this movie! This whole time you knew he had a sick past but it never justified what he did to people but when they “cured him” and you see him throw away the paper about his next trap and go back to thank the team it’s such a slap in the face that it could’ve all been over right then and there. They did a really good job.

When Gabriele had her neck broken, my theatre screamed, "NO!!". They made us actually care about one of the victims to the point where we cheered when she lived, and was sad when she was killed immediately after.
As for the post credits... Biggest cheer of the movie. The second his face appeared, there was an explosion of cheers and applause.

Amanda was cruel and making unwinnable traps in Saw 3 because of what happened to her in Saw 2. I also think its because of what happened in saw X too. Cecilia killed the one she related most too that she wanted to survive above all, she was genuinely distraught. This coupled with the continued cruelty of test victims through the needle pit like you mentioned made her believe that no one is worth redeeming, and John's work is better used as a twisted vigilante retribution instead of rehabilitation

every 3 minute trap in the movie is 3 minutes in real time. for matteo’s trap he said on the tape not to waste time, and he wasted nearly a full minute at the start refusing to do it. love the attention to detail on the clock by the creators

It's funny you mention that. Cuz I believe people hated in previous movies where they give the people in the trap like 3-5 mins and it feels like the waste most of the time before starting to play the game and it's like time isn't moving at all. I'm glad it's in real time on Saw X.

the empathy i felt for him was actually insane he almost made me cry man. he showed his emotions and showed how he is vulnerable, how he is human. sometimes it is hard to forget that. but this showed his humanity and it didn’t do so in a way that tried to redeem him which is rare
The beginning definitely had me almost shed a tear just the look on his face when he believed he would be cured got me and that had me ready for these people to be tested
There was also a detail I loved in this film. (Spoiler) When they removed Valentina’s intestine, Amanda was not disgusted picking it up & throwing it away.. Because for her test, she had to dig through her cellmate’s intestines to find a key. Kevin knows what he’s doing! 😃

Yeah she had grown callous to that and just tossed aside the intestines like it was nothing.
Cecilia told Valentina the wrong way to use the saw, and she told Gabriella to do the leg first on purpose. She was sabotaging them.
That is a cool detail that plays into the fact that Cecilia knew all along she was scamming Jigsaw- she WANTED John Kramer to go after her so he would kill off her accomplices and she and her money could get away with the money scott free.
In fact you can even notice in Cecilia's board of victims, she rather noticeably undercharged John, only charging him $250K instead of her usual $450K.

I feel terrible for Gabriela. Breaking her hand and foot, suffering from radiation burns, winning her trap, just to get killed by the doc. And I also feel like Kramer should have let Valentina slide. She sawed off her leg and almost got the amount of marrow she needed, he honestly should’ve stopped the machine but it is what it is.
It's funny how I was telling my kids John should have given Valentina an extension on the deadline lol. She just needed a few more seconds
Nah he told Mateo & Valentina don't hesitate & they both wasted almost a full minute & they were both less than 10 seconds away from surviving. This means John actually gave them more than enough time to survive but they just didn't listen.

Totally. It was great seeing her still have hope in John's "methods" - but I also loved how you can see her starting to doubt based on what happens in this game. Doubting that people can't be "saved."
Also this biatch Pedersen deserved John's punishment more than anyone in his games. She was crazier than Jigsaw himself.

I’ve been hearing everyone say that the ending trap was meant for John and Amanda, but what I took away from the “one way or another” line was that the blood-boarding trap was meant for Cecilia and Parker and the gas trap was just a plan b if they escaped. I don’t think the movie ever implied it was meant for John and Amanda. Even the trap itself is based on selfishness like the gas trap, because I would assume Cecilia and Parker would each try to blood-board each other to live. Just a thought.

You're wrong because that's why the shackles had hand releases in them. They were designed to be released by the people wearing them. Also if it was designed for Cecilia and Parker, then John wouldn't have released Parker from his chains. There was also no cassette tape for that trap.

I was honestly on the verge of checking out of the Saw series after I was left feeling disappointed by Spiral. But, Saw X brought back my interest in spades. Easily the best Saw movie since 1 and 2. I was genuinely shocked by how much character development was given to both John Kramer and Amanda.

Here's a theory for the next Saw movie that could also show Amanda's descent into thinking people can't be rehabilitated. Maybe Celcillia comes back and either A starts up a new scam under a new name showing she hasn't been rehabilitated or B tries to go after John again showing she hasn't truly learned her lesson. Heck why not do both? That way it explains her being super protective of John and it could show why she thinks that traps don't rehabilitate any more because the doctor is up to her old tricks.

@oldmedstudent1750 I'm definitely thinking she will start up another scam. The money was too good and important to her. John would learn about it because Hoffman could be keeping tabs on her. I think she might go after John for a couple of reasons. 1 is she is a very vindictive woman. She lost a lot of money and could've died in that trap. 2 is John is a loose thread. He knows too much about her past scam and can put her newest scam at risk. The third reason is what a great way for the hunter to become the hunted in a way sort of. Not to mention Amanda would be protective of John as well if he was put in that kind of situation. Shows more of a human angle of John as well, like a vulnerable side possibly.

Saw X blew me away. It is officially one of my favorite Saw movies. While amazing, my only gripe is not seeing the eye vacuum trap in reality and Cecilia not dying…
…which gave me an idea. Cecilia is the perfect candidate for the eye vacuum trap.
Here’s why:
- She’s shown John that she has a sickness inside her that “needs to be exiled”.
- She has “sticky fingers”, stealing people’s money and accomplices’ lives.
- She should also be given 30 seconds to break her fingers. Since she showed no hesitation fucking with John’s game or killing Gabriela and Patrick, she hopefully shouldnt show reluctance to break her fingers.
- Unlike the dream sequence, I think Cecilia’s eye vacuum should be way more powerful. Not just removing her eyes, but large chunks of her brain too.
In my headcanon, she chickens out like the custodian and dies. >:)
I think they left Cecilia alive to continue the story and kill her off in the next movie. So that possibility makes me be fine with her surviving for now.

But the fact that he got all the money back in the end and gave it to Carlos blows my mind. He could have taken his initial $250k back and paid for the surgery in Norway the entire time. John had money and LOTS of it. He wanted to use his insurance since he had been paying for it. Easton told him that if he sought treatment elsewhere, he would be dropped from his medical coverage completely.
The fact that i was genuinely heartbroken for Amanda with the Gabriella arc IS INSANE because i know what Amanda goes on to do in future movies :') Such an incredibly well done movie and honestly possibly my new favourite addition to the franchise
I tried to bring the hype to the theatre when Hoffman appeared by shouting “WOOO” and it worked 😂 I too thought that the leg trap was insane and got a little angry that they died seconds before surviving. I was very pleased with this movie!

You made mistake with Valentina trap: she had to suck her bone marrow from her femur bone not blood....This was the best and the most brutal trap in the movie with awesome realistic gore. Mateo trap was great also but his dead wasn't that great imo. Eye vaccum trap was great and I like that it was in John's head, expanding and showing Johns thinking process.
Thing is, she didn't NEED to cut her whole leg off- she just needed to reach the bone to suck the marrow out. Cutting the whole leg was a waste of time.

If and when there is a Saw 11 (that will most likely be a prequel movie to fill in gaps for the franchise while still being "new" enough for non Saw fans), I hope that Celia gets a proper trap and hopefully one made by Amanda since Celia is a prime example of people not being "rehabilitated". I personally was not satisfied with her just hanging out and being left there. Maybe she'll be one the first victims of the infamous unwinable Amanda traps.

I think they set up a really interesting sequel by having Cecelia survive to the end. She’s actually very crafty and manipulative throughout Saw X and is a great character foil for Jigsaw go up against.
Exactly, perfect protagonist or in this case antagonist for John because in this movie John was actually the empathetic character we were all rooting for. Cecilia meanwhile had no morals, was conniving, and a worthy foe for John.
Honestly it would be cool if Saw XI focused on John and Mark’s relationship similar to John and Amanda’s
Amanda might have started making unwinnable traps because of Cecilia killing Gabriella and putting John and ____ in the trap. To her, Cecilia is irredeemable.

I love your idea with Carlos. Gordon, William, Logan and (maybe) Hoffman are all still alive. Carlos putting the four of them in a game would be brilliant. I’d like to see Saw 11 be between 2 & 3/4 with Cecilia coming back for revenge and finally dying, and then Saw 12 be present day with Carlos killing the other remaining apprentices to wrap up the franchise.
Maybe we can get a streaming series or something afterwards where each season is a new set of detectives investigating a copycat who isn’t directly related to John (since Spiral made it clear that there have been several unrelated copycats since John died).
Amanda also kind of killed Gabriella because of she went through her trial before Matteo they could have brought her to a hospital without Cecelia stomping on her

The scene where John throws away his plans for next trap is so damn powerful. You can tell, early in his career as Jigsaw, John had some doubts about the dark road he was heading down and had the procedure been legit, there would've been no more jigsaw. But the tragedy is is that we know that can't happen. So heartbreaking.

Me and my buddy watched it in theaters I dressed as Billy the puppet and he went as the pig and we had pretty accurate/ expensive outfits and people flipped when they saw us and we got so many pictures and comments it was a fun day. And when Hoffman came at the end I lost it. This movie was fire for sure
Ok as much as im burnt out on Jigsaw apprentices, the Carlos Finale sounds amazing. In my opinion, because of the trap, he saw John in a different light than any of the apprentices. In a weird way, they share a bond.
Carlos as the ultimate apprentice is just perfect to close the saw saga.
Nah. Although I didn’t mind Logan and loved William Schenk, most people’s criticisms of Jigsaw and Spiral is with all of these new apprentices. Which would be hypocritical to then make Carlos one after a timeskip if that’s the main complaint.

My laugh was when John told Carlos 'lets get you home.' I turned to my husband and said 'like that?? he's going to walk into his house covered in blood with a bag of money?' For some reason that made me giggle.
I think for the next one, the best way to explain Amanda’s descent into making unwinnable traps would be to use the hate she has shown toward Cecilia in the movie as a catalyst to use with Hoffman influence. Kramer wouldn't want to kill Cecilia because it's not how he plays. We know Hoffman is not scared to kill criminals with unwinnable traps, as he did before he was found by Jigsaw. Amanda would be torn between Jigsaw ideologies and the satisfaction of killing her. So when she would come back in the next movie not rehabilitated and wanting revenge, after some trials and error, Amanda would snap and Cecilia would become the first victim of an unwinnable trap. It would close the gap between saw x and the rest of the series and explain in a simple way how her views changed!

Sadly after this i dont see much potential for future saw sequels. But I'll be honest 1-4 are the stories and continuity that people care about the most.

I think it can make the saw franchise connect beautifully if they make Carlos turn out to be william from spiral , having Hoffman put him into protective custody after the events of this film, giving a lot more insight and reasoning as to why william had access to jigsaws engineering talents especially considering how close Mexico and California are to each other!

I felt the actors deserved Oscars for their acting. I especially thought the girl who played Valentina be a future scream queen. Plus her death was the most painful to watch.

Was i the only one that didnt fully understand how the doctor knew that John was jigsaw? Like by that time was it public knowledge? Jigsaws face was never revealed to the public up until saw 4 when he died. This takes place after the events of saw 1

I love the fact how Sax X ties in with Saw 3 with Amanda not wanting to let the collar of the doctor. And also when Amanda mentioned she was a murder and John said I despise murders, because of Saw X and what he saw.
I think they'll make an X trilogy, with Saw XI having Hoffman and Kramer and then Saw XII having Gordon and Kramer.

The only time i had to look away was valentines leg saw trap. I genuinely couldn't look. I haven't looked away from a saw film since the needle pit trap in saw 2. Overall i think its a really good movie well done to all the team.

I was also pleasantly surprised with this movie and would argue its probably the best one since the first one. I think alot of this comes down to more screen time with Tobin Bell, a 30-45 minute backstory and who's in the traps and why as opposed to random flash backs and the actual twists and turns in the movie. I agree with you there needs to be more survivors of these traps though and I think the directors need to let go of this double edged sword where people complete their task but the blood doesn't drip fast enough or whatever. Once a movie fine but eye vaccum guy broke 4 fingers, Gabrielle survives to be killed later, Valery or whatever her name is, cuts her leg off doesn't get enough marrow. Matteo cuts his brain out, doesn't melt in time. Kinda counter acts that "do you have what it takes to survive?" Quote because clearly they do.
Yeah I agree. The next imo should explore more of Hoffman's involvement. Because out of all the characters he was actually a beloved one.

This movie was BRILLIANT!!! First of all, it is so special that Tobin came back to film this at almost 80 years old ❤ Since the movie focused a lot on Tobin & Shawnee, audiences were able to see just how masterful both of them are as actors & watching them come together again was so special!
I just finished watching it and I LOVED IT, especially seeing a return of Hoffman 😈 Watching Tobin, Costas & Shawnee was also so special, especially to learn mlre about the relationship between John & Amanda ❤
I have nothing but gratitude for Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Leigh Whannell, James Wan, Kevin Greutert, & the rest of the incredible Saw team for such a brilliant film! (Oh and a HUGE thank-you to Costas because that was my favorite part! I literally started clapping when he appeared on screen 😂)

John puts every single of his apprentices in a massive room where they all have traps. A final trap to determine who would be the most worthy to continue his legacy. You get hoffman,amanda,logan,dr lawrence,willaim, and then you could also add other villains such as dr cecillie,zep,and jill tuck.
That would be epic !

Saw it on Thursday, just got back from seeing it a second time. On Thursday my theater had less than 10 people, but a good 4 or 5 of us clapped and "woo"d when Hoffman showed up at the end!! I was so excited man
The way I see it, there's a few options for Saw XI.
-A direct sequel to Saw X set before Saw 2. Hopefully this one would include Obi Tate, more Hoffman, and Cecilia seeking revenge.
-A film set inbetween Saw 2 and Saw 3. This one could highlight the tensions building between Hoffman and Amanda prior to John's death.
-A film set directly after Saw 7, continuing Hoffmans story. I doubt Cary would return as Dr Gordon, but I'm sure they could work around that. This is the film people have been begging for for over a decade.
-A film set in modern day continuing from Saw 7. I like to imagine that the police came to the bathroom and arrested Hoffman. This one could either have him escaping jail and carrying on as Jigsaw, or being interviewed like Hannibal Lector, giving us lots of flashbacks. This could be combined with one of the previous ideas.
-A film set inbetween Saw 6 and Saw 7. There was a largeish time gap here. We know that Hoffman likely did some sort of games here because 3 of his neighbours seen in Saw V are survivors in the Saw 7 group. This could cover that game if the three actors could return.
-Spiral 2. I personally liked spiral, but it's inferior to the main series. I only want this if it's made side by side with a proper Saw film, so we don't miss out on real Saw.
-Jigsaw 2, God please no. This is a horrible idea. Just forget Jigsaw ever existed, it ruins everything.
-A new fresh story. Maybe another 'From the Book of Saw' film about a copy cat. Could be cool, but it's not what the fans want.
I think Saw Xs reception shows that most fans want John and Hoffman. If they do any more prequels then I hope we get lots of cameos from all the old Saw characters. Imagine a scene with Rigg, Kerry, Hoffman, Matthews, and Fisk all in the police station together. We only ever Saw 3 max together before. Or imagine John, Hoffman, Amanda, Jill and Obi all working on a game together. They have the ability to give us this.
Honestly I'll be happy with whatever as long as it has no connection with Jigsaw 2017.

Very simple way to continue the series, my friend.
Firstly, we MUST have costas mandylor back as hoffman is playing a much bigger role.
The whole gimmick of this movie is that it was placed between 1 and 2, so this is basically saw 1.5.
Obviously, John dies in 3/4, so that only leaves potential for one more movie in this style to be made. Saw XI or Saw 2.5. A movie without tobin Bell alive and in action is not the same, and it's the reason the other movies failed, so this would be the only option.
What we need are some more hoffman amanda interactions to set up their sour rivalry and also the downfall of Amanda's mentality after the nerve gas house game.
The thing is the stories and continuity that people care the most about is the 1-4 era before and leading up to the death of jigsaw so I'm sure another movie in this style would be another good hit.
However, this leaves little potential for many saw sequels after this.

@@yashee3421 I agree with your idea. But I actually believe we can fit multiple films in that gap before Saw 2. The bathroom trap in Saw 1 takes place in October 2004. Saw X is weeks later, so probably November or December 2004. Saw 2 doesnt take place until November 2005. (this is all confirmed by dates given in the films). So we have about an entire years gap with nothing but Michael's iron maiden trap, that we can fill in with Saw X sequels. Also, theres a six month gap between Saw 2 and Saw 3, as confirmed by Hoffman in Saw 4, so there's another 6 months worth of room for prequels before John and Amanda die.
The Saw films are already pretty farfetched with how much work the Jigsaw Killers can do in a short space of time, so they can probably just fill in these two gaps in indefinitely if it's what the fans want, without damaging the continuety.
@@Will_Rules I feel like it's kinda cheap to bring hoffman back in that way. I get it the whole. If we don't see a dead body, they ain't dead, but like, hoffmans downfall was quite good, imo and I don't really want them to retcon that.
Also, the main reason this movie was as good as it was was that we saw Tobin Bell in the flesh as John kramer, instead of cheap flashbacks.
The continuity after saw 4 isn't really cared about by many fans because there's no real jigsaw. So it makes more sense to leave that as it is and follow the same formula they've created now.
What they've done is absolutely genius, filling in the gaps of the timeline so we can see more John Kramer in action
This movie was great I love all the small details and Easter eggs. Especially with the previous saw films. Hoffman being sly mentioned then showing up was definitely amazing
I kinda assumed Cecilia was gonna die. Unless I missed something she was left trapped in the room right? I assumed John left her there to die even though she won, because she bought Carlos into the game
Cecilia is the kind of villain who will walk out of the finale and be like ‘I lived b*tch!’
I believe when the timer goes off, the door did unlock, but I think they left it in ambiguous in case of a future sequel.
Great spoiler review! I watched Saw X today, and absolutely loved it.
One thing: I never thought the blood seesaw trap was deaigned for John and Amanda. I thought it was designed for Cecilia and Parker, with the gas trap room as a back up, just in case. Parker pponts out that if Cecilia was meant to be the last survivor, why was her trap a two-perspn trap.
Just my thoughts, anyway. Great review as always, i hope we continue to talk about Saw X for some time to come.

My theater was dead silent (of course the gasps and cringe sounds). Most got up before the Hoffman part and left, but some stopped on the way out to watch. I wish I had a respectful, but more reactionary crowed. I loved the movie, I felt soooo bad for John, and had to keep reminding myself he's the villain.
Right when Carlos was introduced I thought right away APPRENTICE!
20:36 - An arguement is there for Cecilia's story to continue but could see Saw 11's starting bit being involving her somehow... or a feel of Carlos having his own "Book of Saw" film but that's more my weight... Perhaps learning her fate could be related to the Opening action this time? Who knows

Just watched it an hour ago, and I personally can say that I loved it!! Definitely kept me drawn in, acting was so good from John and his helper…this movie makes me want to binge watch the whole franchise again
I just wonder why John would use blood on the final trap if he knew he was going to be a part of it and not Dr Cecelia? A water boarding trap would still be lethal and wouldn't alert her to the fact that it's a decoy. John kinda owned himself there.
He mentions in saw 5 or 6 when kidnapping Hoffman that he leaves nothing to chance. I think he was hoping it would play out with Cecelia and Parker as they have “blood on their hands” and used the gas room as a backup plan if they escaped similar to Cecil’s trap when he sidestepped the razor wire.
Parker would’ve won the water boarding game because he was stronger. Both games were about them working together… if they would’ve kept taking turns they could’ve both “won” but the dr was going to try to save herself anyways.

Yes! Not gonna lie I was okay with “Jigsaw” but didn’t like “Spiral”… ever since Logan was revealed to be an apprentice and then we got William, I was like at some point they must fight. And when you think about it, Carlos really did survive a trap and would probably make sure John’s work is respected instead of used for revenge.
Why would Logan and William fight lol? If anything, I feel like they’d actually work together because, although their reasonings were different, it was ultimately out of revenge. It’s likely they know each other exist though but will never interact. I hope we get a continuation with all of them. Zeke, Logan, Eleanor, and William. It would really tie up everything to bring these characters back
I genuinely fell asleep in the early to mid half for 20 minutes of this film, and it still made total sense... AND was probably one of the best saw film

I highly recommend seeing it in theaters. Being able to gauge the reactions of the rest of the audience and collectively cringe alongside them when things got gruesome was a pretty good time.

They wrote John beautifully for this movie! This whole time you knew he had a sick past but it never justified what he did to people but when they “cured him” and you see him throw away the paper about his next trap and go back to thank the team it’s such a slap in the face that it could’ve all been over right then and there. They did a really good job.
