Great tip! One thing I really appreciated in your video is that you use the pedal and one can see it. Most of the other videos are guys making demonstrations while trying it out, saying "cool" a lot but basically just doing on a video what I'm doing home, wich is just experimenting with the pedal. I've got it for a while now and was looking for a more advanced video on it, of real usage in context. Your video, your tip, made all the difference. So far I had neglected the send/return circuit, but it makes a big difference.
Thanks for the video, I was the same, scouring the internet trying to find anyone doing a demo on this function before I bought the pedal. Got the pedal and enjoying it!
Nobody talks about this box with an acoustic guitar I run it through the acoustic in a 3pc acoustic band and it sounds amazing it fills the sound so well adds a lot to the sound
Nice - I run the send to my bass pedals (flanger, sansamp) then run the out of the pedal to its separate DI. That way I can use it like a Moog Taurus synth, but without the extra hardware (and the soundman has control over the separate elements).
Thanks for the demo! I was more concerned with if all the pedals in the loop are active regardless of the sy1's on/off status and this answered the question! Mine comes on Saturday, very excited to integrate it in my rig
@@joehazen7996 Hey man no problem! Yeah whether the synth pedal is engaged or disengaged, any pedals that are connected to the effects loop will function as long as the synth pedal is connected to a power source whether it’s by battery or a 9V DC adapter.
The newer Boss ME-90 has the effects send and return loop. With this processor, can you simply route the SY-1 or the SY-200 through this with the same results? Thank you, and your video is great.
Here’s my chain: Tuner> Comp>Wah >SY-1 Dirt Pedals > Amp modulation and Time Based effects in the loop of the amplifier. Question: So to achieve this my dirt pedals need to go into the send/return of the Boss SY-1 with my guitar signal hitting the input and output of the SY-1 into the front of the amp? Thanks in advance.
Great video! Quick question: If I just use the distortion of my amp (no dist pedal), can I send the sy-1 to the effect input of my amp and have the same result?
@@ktz1450 Hey thanks! Great question! What you can do is reference how I connect it to my multi effects unit or better yet there is a video on TH-cam on the Boss Noise Suppressor and the guy in the video show how he uses the pedal’s send and return to connect straight to his amp. Try it that way with the Synth pedal. It may work. Let me know if you try it out.
Wow, great video. So please, how could I do that ? ! OK, my chain is : Guitar - Distortion - Noise Gate pedal - Floor unit Effect Processor. So how can I connect the Boss SY1 ? PLEASE ! !
The SY-1 should be connected before the drive pedals. Best at the beginning of the chain and you want to plug your distortion to the send and return of the SY-1.
That’s correct. That method applies to any Boss pedal with a send and return. It also works best in that method with the Noise Suppressor too. You just mostly kill the hum rather than the sustain of your tone like other noise gates.
Thanks for clearing up this issue. Now what would be the proper way of connecting a distortion pedal simultaneously to both the sy-1 and an ns-2 noise suppressor since the distortion would have to be routed through 2 sets of send/return jacks?
Sorry if I'm slow... So plugging into the send/return gives you both the guitar and synth tone simultaneously? But plugging in directly into the input is the synth signal only? (Great video btw!)
@@germanxmascookie Plugging directly to the input and then following with gain pedals will distort the synth tone, meaning you’ll hear the synth effect but it’ll be compromised by your distortion pedals. However running gain pedals through the send and return will allow the distortion and the synth tone to run parallel so you can hear both sounds clearly.
Yes. When you use the SY-1 it’s the best method because the signals will run parallel rather than sequential. In other words when you engage the synth pedal your drive sound won’t distort your synth tone.
Great tip!

you can use the output as a DI and the send as the raw signal if youre that kind of person too

Planning to get the SY1 soon but, I have a noise suppressor with another effects loop. Was looking for a way to connect them properlu
Same here, I’ve used chat gpt to figure some stuff out. It’s helpful but not always able to tell you exactly what you need.

Great post. Another tip,… when using guitar synth use it sparingly.
Yeah. Like condiments on a recipe. If you use too much, you'll taste just the condiment and the flavour of the dish will get lost.
