    Do you think Warhammer is too expensive?

    On starting a new army, there should be a list for every army, I'm sure we can all put one together in 10 minutes, with 2 units and a vehicle and a character that has been consistently viable over the past 3 editions.
    That way you can introduce someone with a safe choice they'll be able to play a game with the coming years AND it'll have a pretty good resale value aswell

      Great advice although if your a new player I imagine the options can be more than a little overwhelming. Saying that there are plenty of resources these days. - Russ

    Watched your Peachy interview and had to sub and get more. For pallette cleaners try a Kill Team box. Once its done you've got something to play with instantly.

    Honestly for me it's been too expensive to buy from GW direct for a few years now, but even FLGSs are starting to feel a bit much sadly. Q&A Question: Which Primarch(one loyalist, one traitor)do you NOT want to return?

    • @inthetank40k
      @inthetank40k  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah it's crazy isn't it, some of the FLGS's only offer 10% discount which pushes people to online stores like Element Games even more. Thanks for the Q&A question! - Eddie

    Too expensive is tricky because it really depends on what aspect of Warhammer you engage with or prefer to engage with. If your objective is competitive 2k point armies then heck ya... but if its the lore ie novels, or joy of painting, or the "boxed" or "specialty" games then no it is not too expensive.
    Rather than compare to other hobbies in general I like to compare to other wargames, and lets take Old World vs ASOIAF (both rank and flank): to get around your 2k points for an army I would prepare to drop 500 CAD and next expect to have many units to swap out for flexibility, for the same money ASOIAF I could have 2-3 well fleshed out armies with multiple unit options to swap out, but the model quality is not nearly as high (even if ASOIAF to me plays better). The smaller skirmish games like Necromunda, Warcry, Killteam and Bloodbowl hold up better for startup cost compared to other model games, say Shatterpoint, and these smaller games give a quick and overall excellent time to dollar value ratio in terms of hobbying/playtime. The ratio for a necromunda gang is really good overall, even considering likely need 2 books and at least one gang box to be up and running. Underworlds was/is extremely good value (if you have people to play with) and if only want to paint cool models is still good value. GW IPS and products overall it is too expensive to get everything I would want, or to engage fully in all the areas I would like to spend time/money on, but very cost effective if doing targeted engagement.
    When people do argue of cost to "amount of plastic" there is some validity in terms of wonky unit pricing and points values, but when people go into $/Gram, and not tongue in cheek, that is a grossly misleading argument and I think we all know it. I think GW should really consider making the rules/rulebooks more easily accessible and affordable though, the turnover rate is too high and cost too high.... I refuse to acknowledge the rulebooks cost in a box sets value because it is the one aspect that will rapidly depreciate in value.
    QA questions:
    1. What box/specialty games would you like to see more novels/short stories about?
    2. What would you like to see the next warhammer quest type game to focus on thematically?
    3. What is your take on the warhammer horror and warhammer crime genres? Are there any other literary genres you would like to see explored?
    4. What lore characters/unit types would you like to see models get made for or be updated? And please feel free to explain what you look for in a lore to model adaptation.

      Really well articulated! I imagine in terms of point for point value skirmish games are always going to be an amazing deal compared to building a bigger army project where some of those units may be sent to legends over time or even just be bad rules wise. Saying that you would be at the Mercy of game trends if you go chips in something specialised as I imagine every city has a thriving WH40K or AOS community to just join.
      Thanks for the questions! Will add then to master Q & A List. :) - Russ

    I think people always talk about the prices for boxes have increased along with inflation but you need so much more for an army now.
    Back in 2nd Ed my Wolves army had three squads a dreadnought and 2 characters. Priced them up in the App and doesn’t even scrap 1k points.
    The other thing annoys me are day one errata on codexes. Can understand although don’t like day one FAQs but if I am paying $60 for a new codex I expect GW to have at least proof read the thing. Recent guard codex they forgot to add in deep strike to the Scions.
    QA question how could GW make combat patrol actually good and not massively unbalanced.

    • @inthetank40k
      @inthetank40k  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s such a good point. 2000pts games use so many more miniatures then what they used to.
      Yeah day one codex errata is unforgivable, unless they made the app/sex’s in built in Warhammer + - Russ

    It's overpriced and has been for a long time, in my opinion.
    I can't see GW ever lowering their prices which might lead to more GW stores closing

    After discovering this channel about 3-4 weeks ago and having caught up with all previous videos by last week's episode, thank you both for once again coming in my ears.
    GW's products are absurdly priced, and often inconsistently too. That said, I've been buying hobby crack from them (and some third parties) for nearly 30 years. Maybe when a Tactical/Intercessor Squad hits £100, at £10 per model... that doesn't really feel that unlikely any more... I'm sure Tactical Squads were about £12 for 10 Marines back when I first joined - I know the kit has evolved and has greater details/options, but current prices _are_ stupid.

      @@inthetank40k There really is a risk of them pricing themselves out if that carries on, they already will have done for very many players/collectors.
      Considering the vast profits reported, the "oh, we're very sorry but prices need to go up" WarCom articles feel extremely disingenuous. You don't have that vast a profit margin and whine, instead you show a bit of consumer awareness and sensitivity and _reduce_ prices to bring more hobbyists into the customer base. They would still make a vast amount of profit and have a massively larger set of us lot buying their stuff. The knee jerk of "people are buying less, we need to raise prices to compensate... ... wait, why are people now buying even less?! Quick, raise prices again to make up the difference..." feels likely too - on top of having to eternally make profits for shareholders.
      If I didn't adore the 30K/40K lore as much as I do, the models themselves (aesthetic, etc.) and have about three decades of investment/time/love spent on it, I'd have switched to either a different hobby (likely a stronger focus on PC/console gaming, including TTS to virtually play 40K) or to 3D printed proxies (though I don't want a 3D printer until they're easy and safe enough to have above my desk in my office/hobby room next to our paper printer).
