Your video is really touching me. It reminds me the days I was learning English because I’m immigrant from shanghai to New York. Your video also showing Flushing New York which I live here for over 10 yrs. So I hope you will come back to your hometown and have a talk show soon.
How did I get here? I watched Hannah Brenner's Netflix special, 'We Ride at Dawn' (which was excellent). She, of course, discussed her recent marriage to this older man, Des Bishop, who is also a comedian. So, I found one of Des' stand up on TH-cam, thought he was fantastic, which led me to here. I'm loving this excursion into China far more than I had anticipated. I'm learning and laughing on this trip. Got to say, mind blown that Des learned Gaelic and Chinese - two of the most difficult languages to pronounce for non-natives.
This is an amazing series Des! Love your comedy and this is such an amazing feat. Love the intimacy with everyone you interact with, and can clearly see feel all the emotions you are going through. So inspiring for someone trying to learn Mandarin.

I spent close to 2 years there in the mid 80s. That family you were with def not on the poor end of the scale. No one lived like that when I was there. And there were very few vehicles on the road. Everyone rode bicycles and rush hour was a real experience. LOL. The one child thing was no joke back then though… Women were forcibly taken from their homes to have their babies aborted and baby girls didn’t often survive. The result today is a shortage of women and a huge human trafficking problem. Women kidnapped from the cities never to be seen again. It was not good. The Chinese people are great though. Beautiful people with a rich culture full of good and bad like every other culture. I really enjoyed my experience there. Thanks for doing this video.

Ok, this is my second comment here, and it's probably a bit much, but I'm fangirling HARD. So oh well. G'wan Des!! Just busting through every barrier and bringing humanity together. He's like the last unicorn- an *actual* Irish American... whom the Irish are still even willing to claim as their own! Gael go smior é, and a man for all of humanity as well! He's a rare, shining example that not every single American is fat, ugly, stupid, lazy, violent, and/or selfish. They say: "Irish is too hard to learn"... "Why learn Irish when you could learn a 'relevant' language?" (😟)... "You'll never learn other world languages by 'wasting' your time on Irish." All this negativity just lit a fire under Des to go help light a fire under the Irish to love speaking the language again. Many ppl helped light that fire, but Des was just the perfect catalyst to really fan the flames. He was so earnest and humble and honest about it. It makes me well up with emotion. Now he's upward and onward to Chinese! 🤩 They say so many things can't be done, but Des just got the whole damn world holding his beer!! As an Irish American with a half asian child, Des, I salute you and I thank you, from the bottom of my heart! 💖
