I love this answer. As a recently re-born Christian who is trying to explain my recent conversion to those around me, this answer is a great example of how Christianity isn’t a big set of rules to follow, it’s a way of thinking and acting that honors yourself by honoring God. I wish more people knew this!

Congratulations praise God. I recently cut out caffeine for the reason that it's a drug and drugs affect the brain. I don't want anything affecting my connection to God. I do occasionally have caffeine but very rarely now.

My weakness is sugar, desserts. Is it a sin? No.
I know exactly what happens later in life if I abuse the consumption of sugar so I have to discipline myself. Discipline is key with everything - God is so good.

Also, as a cardiac nurse I would caution people about caffeine -especially energy drinks! I’d say if you experience palpitations or heart rate over 100 bpm while at rest then get a cardiac work-up.

Pretty standard addiction-style stuff here, a good thing to reiterate since addictions of all sorts are more and more common...applies to a lot more than caffeine obviously, "...part of a much bigger issue, isn't it?" like Pastor John said. Every person who recognizes that the addiction is the chain and Jesus is the freedom...worth every word and thought. What an oddly-specific APJ title though, heh!

During covid I fell into the habit of having a lot of caffeine. About 5-6 medium/large long blacks - so 4-8’shots of caffeine. I only drink coffee for enjoyment. I am a fast metaboliser so I don’t get much, if any benefits.
However, I felt this maybe not the best way to steward my body so reduced it to 3 small long blacks over a day (so 3 shots).

The problem is an epidemic of people thinking it's cool and trendy to be cranky to people if they don't get their coffee and their accountability for managing their emotions and behavior goes out the window. Veering into idolatry too. Sounds to me like he's getting an occasional energy boost.

      Genesis 35:5-8
"5 And as they journeyed, a terror from God fell upon the cities that were around them, so that they did not persue the sons of Jacob."( ESV Study Bible
      Pause in Genesis 35:6a
6( a) And Jacob came to Luz( that is, Bethel)( pause in Christ. Do you remember Genesis 28:19 too in Christ?
      Genesis 28:19
" 19 He( Jacob) called the named of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first."( Genesis 28:19 ESV Study Bible),
which is the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him,"( ESV Study Bible)
In the name of Jesus , i pray to study some background information and then resume back to Genesis 35:6 onward later. Hope it helps other to understand God's word :) even more in Christ. In Jesus'name, i pray( Genesis 28:18-19 background information and resume back to where we left off before in Christ. I understandwe're in New Testament worship the Lord our God and serve him only or serve God or serve Jesus only in Christ ). Amen. That is that.
Now reflesh us what the Bible said first in
      In Genesis 28:18
" So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. "(Genesis 28:18 ESV Study Bible and do you see set up doesn't mean he built an altar. Now understand more of commentary background knowledge may help us understand more for learning purpose in Christ for Genesis 35:1-7( because Jacob return to Bethel in order to contruct an altar(Genesis 35:1-7 ) you will see. I am not saying we ransomely go out and get stones and built a altar. But we can build a prayer altar in Christ. In Jesus'name, i pray( for nurish one another from learning background information to hope for more understanding on what happened in Genesis 35:1-7 and from learning other's belief , hope can help access more understanding on Genesis 35:1-7 from Genesis 28:18-19 background knowledge and lead to Johh 14:6 later ) Amen.
According to my ESV Study Bible,
" in Genesis 28:18 Although Jacob commemorates this special even by setting up a "...pillar..."( Genesis 28:18b ESV Study Bible) and consecratint it with oil, it is noteworthy that he did not build an altar. This is further indication( shows) that he has not yet fully accepted the Lord as his God. While the practice of setting up pillars was common in Canaanite worship, Deuteronomy 16:22 prohabit it ( not allow it) years later( :) ) , after his faith(trust)- transforming encounter with at Penuel( Genesis 32:22-32( assume we read it in christ too), Jacob returns ( in Genesis 35) to Bethel ( but the name of the city was Luz at the first) in order to construct an altar.( Genesis 35:1-7)." (ESV Study Bibls)
Now "...the name of the city was Luz at the first"( from Genesis 28:19 b ESV Study Bible)
" The city's name continued to be "Luz" until the Israelites occupied Canaan many centuries later( See Genesis 35:6; Genesis 48:3; Joshua 18:3; Judges 1:23; Judges 1:26) The actual location is "Bethel" by Jacob probably lay outside the city of Luz ( see Joshua 16:2
"2 Then going from Bethel to Luz, it passed along to Ataroth, the territory of the Archites."(Joshua 16:2 ESV Study Bible)
From above , Bethel is location Jacob named that place in Genesis 28:19 but the name of the city( Luz) was Luz, but the name of the city was Luz( so Luz was city) at the first, "which is the land of Canaan," Genesis 35:6 middle of the verse)
      Let's read again what
Genesis 22:19 ( The Bible said)
"He( Jacob) called the name of that place Bethel but the name of the city was Luz at the first."( Genesis 28:19 ESV Study Bible . Stick with what The Bible Said instead in Christ. hehe... in Christ)
      Again back to Genesis 35:6
"6 And Jacob came to( the city) Luz( that is, Bethel )( from Genesis 28:19)
which is the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him,
      Pause in Genesis 35:7 a
"7 ( a) and there he built a altar and call the place El- bethel( " call the place El- bethel" "This is probably refers to the altar. " El- bethel, " meaning
" God of Bethel," resemble in form the name that Jacob gave to the altar at Shechem( Genesis 33:20 )."( ESV Study Bible).
Now flashback to Genesis 33:20 to reflesh us in Genesis 33:20
      ( The Bible said.)
"20 The he( Jacob( or Israel :) ) erected an altar and called it El- Elohe- Israel."( Genesis 33:20 ESV Study Bible)
      Back to Genesis 35:7-8
"7 and there he built a altar and call the place El- bethel, because there God (😊100%❤) had revealed himself to him( Jacob or Israel❤) when he fled from his brother.
8 And Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she( Deborah) buried under an
an oak below Bethel. So he( Jacob or Israel) called its name Allon- bacuth."( Genesis 35:5-8 ESV Study Bible, in Genesis 35:8 my ESV Study Bible said, " "8 And "Deborah, Rebekah's nurse,..."( from Genesis 35:8a ESV Study Bible, )
Deborah, Rebekah's( or Jacob's mom= Rebekah ) nurse,..."( from Genesis 35:8a ) received a brief mention in Genesis 24:59, although this is the first time that her name is given. Her( Deborah is Jacob's mom's nurse= Deborah= her ) presence with Jacob may suggest that she( Deborah) had been sent to him by Rebekah in fulfillment of her promise in Genesis 27:45
"45 until your brother( Esau)'s anger turn away from you( Jacob), and he( Esau)
      forgets
      what
you(Jacob ) have done to him. Then I will send(from Genesis 35:8 probably Rebekah sent her nurse ( Deborah) to Jacob's fulfillment from Genesis 27:45 here ) and bring you( Jacob) from there. Why should I be bereft of you both(Jacob and Esau ) in one day? " " ( Genesis 27:45 ESV Study Bible)
Speaking "Forgets"(Genesis 27:45 middle of the verse) it reminds me about
( we can forgive and forget about it :) although in sometimes we cannot forget what others said but we can choose to forgive others who wronged us in Christ. Let us see what Paul said in The Bible as our wrap up for this sharing in
      Philippians 3:12-14
"12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect,
      but( " but " 😊❤ love the word, "but"😊❤)
      I press on😊❤

I keep listening in Christ in Phiilippian onward and upward in Christ in Philippians 3:15-16
" 15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God( God our Father 😊100%❤ in heavens and earth) will reveals😊❤ that also to you( "you"😊❤ singular "you" or " you" plural "you"

My thoughts exactly 😂 felt like it was trying way too hard to be noticed. But if he's truly struggling with that, good on him for noticing. But one energy drink every few days? If he's worried about harming his body, he should seek medical advice. By and large, 200mg of caffeine every few days for the normal adult is pretty light.

besides, there are definitely stupid questions, otherwise the Master wouldn't have been asked about that "who will the woman that married seven times stay with after the resurrection?" from folks who even didn't believe in resurrection.
also, wasn't the Master who asked Peter something like "you still this dull?"
