Justin, i often find myself coming back to your channel to find different edrum things ALL THE TIME. Ive loved your content, and you are the reason i bought my TD-17KVX, and you inspire me all the time! I can't say enough how grateful i am now, I've loved making covers and i've come a long way in six months, all because of the amazing kit you recommended for me! Don't stop man, and THANK YOU!
Thanks Justin for sharing these tips! Many of them I hadn't really thought ever before. And have to agree with making lots of videos, practice is what makes us improve, whether it is playing drums or uploading videos. Longtail tags were a big surprise for me.
Great video man! I'm at a crossroads myself. My channel's known for RUSH drum covers but I'd like to cover other groups without losing my subs. I'm thinking of creating content that has some type of thread connection to RUSH? You've helped me think this through so thank you!
Hey Justin, I partly agree. But I have to say that lighting is right after the audio one of the most important things. I spent 160$ for a professional photo lighting kit and that was the best investment ever. Every camera's (iPhone, older DSLR, new DSLR) footage looks good now. So 160 bugs is not too much for good quality. Besides, I use the lights for ebay pics too. So I would recommend to everyone to buy good lighting.
+Vdrum Tips my main point was that people go broke on cameras and lights, but never get around to making videos. Lights definitely important like you said. I'm not against nice lights.
Hey, Justin, this was very insightful and you clearly know more about the inner workings of TH-cam than I. I haven't seen anyone else explain what you've done here. Great stuff - thanks for making this one!
Great advice! I’m just short of 1k subs and 4000 watch hrs, but I have upped my game and bought a Yamaha ead10 to run all my audio. I also got lights, and a rode’s mic to improve speaking and drumming audio. Soon I’ll be relaunching a new and vastly improved channel. Still my old channel but with all new improved video and audio quality! Thanks for the tips I’m using all of them. Just need those subs!! 😎🥁
an excellent video, Justin! another thing I would like to add; posting videos to groups on facebook and even google+ are a good source of views - twitter not so much. looking forward to your next video!
Awesome video Justin. Made me want to start a channel. But time is my problem and the last thing I want to do is put another iron in the fire. Great job... Keep it up.
Thanks for this, Justin. I just realized that I barely do ANYTHING you advised. ;) I make one takes without editing, I do sample reviews, mixing tutorials, I do drum covers & I switch from Jazz to Hard Rock. Your videos are pro style, without a doubt. But I have simply no time to put more effort in it. And I first look at the headline and then at the thumbnail. But I get your point and your tips are worthy and true.
Tracy Beasley it’s always legal, but your videos will probably get copyright claimed which does not effect your channel. I recommend uploading a drums only version of the drum covers you make. If you need an example check out my channel! Good luck!
Great content here. Most folks do not realize how much work goes into making videos. No it did not magically get recorded this way. LOL! I have a couple TH-cam Channels one is for Real Estate drone photography. My clients do not have a clue how many hours it takes. It is a lot of work.
Lots of good advice!! I agree with making more or constant videos!! But sometimes life comes in the way which stinks but that is how it is!! And also with the experience I agree that after time it helps make better videos!!
Justin, this advice rocks. Some of it definitely applies to livestreaming as well (where I'm focusing my efforts). One thing I wanted to talk to you more about is the Niche vs Broad market. You said to focus on the niche first, and grow an audience there before branching out. I 100% agree and didn't want to believe it until giving it a shot. The interesting part is the branching out later. If you've built an audience on something specific, how do they react when you start doing something different? You've had success with this, but do you know what kept people coming to your channel once you branched away from e-drums a bit?
+Drumming PC glad you liked it! :) the way I look at it, branching out with new content is fine if you're working it between the regular stuff they subscribed for. Too much new stuff all at once is probably a bad idea :) but in the end, if you've made good stuff for a long time, they'll still watch a video that's a bit different from your regular content.
Great video, I agree with most of your tips not all, but… I’m willing to listen as I’m still just under 4000 watch hrs and I’m trying to increase my watch hrs ( hence I’m watching this video) and I’m still learning! Drum covers are quite good for me , but always getting copyright claims and as you know not good for getting monetized. I do a wide variety of drum related things on my channel and still learning and developing! Hopefully soon using some of your tips I can break that’s 4000 watch time barrier. I have over 1100 subs which is nice but gotta get those watch hrs in!!!!!! Thanks 🙏
The best vidio showing how to make better your channel, I alwais try to put the entire vidio but sometimes I jump some parts but just I do it , if the vidio is like 3 or 7 or something and it is about a demo of a keyboard or something because, I know how it sounds and just I go trying parts of the vidio and if I don't like it, I change the vidio , ggreat and short vidio
Hi Justin, thanks for this video, it gave me the encourage to finally start the recording of may first video for my new channel and guest what... It - is - going - to suck xD
hey Justin, I have a question that has nothing to do with this video. With the roland RT-30HR, can you change the sound of the trigger? I have a roland td 25kv and i just want a snare that looks like a snare, so I thought I'd buy a snare off Craigslist and the RT-30HR. Is that a good idea? if not whats your suggestion?
the RT30HR will work, I have one and I did the same thing with my acoustic snare. It just won't trigger as well as a one that you place underneath the drum head. I did a review of the RT30 and RT10 if you want to check it out
Hey justin wanted to ask a question i have a simmons sd9k pretty much a older version of the simmons sd1k the one with the blue rack system but with a much older module the other day i was messing around with the editing features on it and i found myself dealing with these options but idk what they really mean theres threshold, crosstalk, rej time, curve and rim sense could u help me out
You said in your video there's different drum review, cover, and tutorial channels each with different content, but relative to what you said in the video what kind of drumming content would you say be the most successful?
+Sam Wilkins covers and tutorials are easier because you don't need to constantly find new drumsets and drive hundreds of miles to play them. But really ANY channel can be successful if you go 100% on it.
+Comment Sense I'm at a 3-4 per week right now. The way you have to approach it is from the mentality of a TV show. A movie takes 2 years to make and is incredible.. but only 1 piece of content was made. A tv show isn't as polished, but has 10x more content and is still a good quality.
Hey Justin Awesome video it's like you esp I just started a channel an I'm just winging it this helps hey I only have two videos could you take a look at the videos and give some feedback much appreciated thanks
+Charlie's Drum Shed Hi dude good channel! :) holding your phone sideways while filming improves the video a lot, and make sure your face is always lit :) nice channel
The idea of dragging on a video that would only have to be a minute or two, to having it be like 14 mins is what vloggers do all the time. Logan Paul is a classic example. His titles are like "TODDLER DEAD!?" And it will be 12 minutes of filler then 2 minutes of some boring clickbatey story.
Great advice!
Great ! Inspiring and informative as always, starting my channel soon not sure yet how to focus my videos yet! I’ll guess we’ll see. Tnx Justin
Again another great video even better than the TH-camrs who tell you how to get a TH-cam channel going
+Lonny Sherman Thanks man! I had a lot of fun making this one
Excellent! Thanks for sharing your expertise🤙

auch! no good audio no good lightning... My first video is going to suck... A LOT! :-)
Jesus Palacios No worries Jesus, as Justin said. Everyone starts small:)
Jesus Palacios I'm pretty sure any video you make will be much better than my first videos 😂😂
Thank You for sharing your tips! I got alot of great ideas from Your insight! I also Subscribed!! 😊❤
I can say you 've done these things correctly, as I'm not planning to make videos, but I'm still watching it
+Terence Fletcher was I rushing?
Great video very well explained. Thank you Justin :D
The biggest problem I have is I constantly ask people to give ideas and they never respond making it so hard for me to get an idea.
Hey, Justin, this was very insightful and you clearly know more about the inner workings of TH-cam than I. I haven't seen anyone else explain what you've done here. Great stuff - thanks for making this one!
+3forparker Thanks for watching man! :)
+3forparker I'm a bit of a TH-cam analytics junkie

Awesome video Justin. Made me want to start a channel. But time is my problem and the last thing I want to do is put another iron in the fire. Great job... Keep it up.

+Mike Luke This is stuff that's worked for me :) do whatever works for you
Great video! Really informative and relatable!
I learned from this.
Thanks you!
Justin I am going to be new to TH-cam I have Roland V drums I’m disabled so kind of boring at home so how do I do cover songs legally
Tracy Beasley it’s always legal, but your videos will probably get copyright claimed which does not effect your channel. I recommend uploading a drums only version of the drum covers you make. If you need an example check out my channel! Good luck!

As I watched this I suddenly found out what my niche is! :D Thanks a lot for this great video! :D
Excellent basics.👍

If you are making 5 videos a week do you think you will worry about having GOOD content. It brings up the idea of quantity vs quality
+Comment Sense I'm at a 3-4 per week right now. The way you have to approach it is from the mentality of a TV show. A movie takes 2 years to make and is incredible.. but only 1 piece of content was made. A tv show isn't as polished, but has 10x more content and is still a good quality.
65 Drums I have never thought of it that way. Interesting point of view
Hey Justin
Awesome video it's like you esp I just started a channel an I'm just winging it this helps hey I only have two videos could you take a look at the videos and give some feedback much appreciated thanks
+Charlie's Drum Shed Hi dude good channel! :) holding your phone sideways while filming improves the video a lot, and make sure your face is always lit :) nice channel
How was my first my video lol
+Az The Drummer I don't think I saw it lol
I can’t even come up with a channel name yet 😭
: )
+Zam Muan : )
I mean, If the vidio is 3, 7 hours , not 3 min or something
+Ferran Melero 7 hour videos?????
65 Drums roland rd 2000 all sounds
first
+Mashimal HD wow that was fast, 15 seconds
65 Drums I was listening to spit it out and I got the notification
65 Drums didn't even finish the video

+Comment Sense yeah that's why I don't watch Vlogs very often.. it's mostly daily life stuff. Not really my thing.
65 Drums agreed. It's pretty mundane boring things
