What a great video. Getting ready to finally turn my first pen, and I wanted to do a bolt action one. This was a great instruction! Wish me luck!
Thank you.
Bolts are one of the best kits and people love them.

Bob

I always love watching and learning new techniques from you. You have helped me tremendously with my turning and I continue to improve as I learn from you. Thanks for helping me and keep them coming. Stanley
Thank you Stanley,
I really appreciate this comment. Comments like this keep me going.

I’ve made a couple of these pens and didn’t know I could change the bolt around thanks for showing us that. It seems I learn something about pens with every one of your videos thanks
Beautiful pen . I really like those bolt action kits . Take care .
Thank you Glen,
I do too. And there about three most solid of the themed kits.

Bob
That’s awesome! I definitely need to pick up some of these blanks, I’ve got a lot of friends that would love these!
Thank you Colin,
Mike has them and can make them if you need more. His contact info is in the video comment. Please let him know I sent you.

Bob
That's a great pen, Bob. It's entertaining that you went all the way to Ohio to get a blank from DeLawter. Haha.
Love the pen Bob... awesome job. I’ve made a few of those bolt actions and always have adjusted the bolt to be in the down position depending on whether the end user was left handed or right handed. I think it makes it easier to use one handed... or one thumbed
Beautiful work, Bob, as always. Thank you very much on the bolt handle tip.
Question, and I apologize if you've already covered this but I've been out of pocket for a while. I saw you use a toothbrush to clear the acrylic shavings when you were turning. How did you discover that? It seems to work very well.
Hello Matt,
I think someone suggested it in a video. Compressed air works well too.

Bob
Great looking pen Bob! I just finished up a “Faith, Hope, Love” pen for my wife and found I had the same problem that you did with the center band. PSI was very nice and sending me a replacement. Hopefully it will fix the issue.
I hope so too. With as many replacements as they send out you think they would go back to the manufacturer and have them correct the issue.

Bob
As always a great video and a beautiful pen. I love your work. But. A question. I pretty much follow the same process you do until we get to the end. After polishing with the micro mesh I do at least one polish with a liquid polish. Hut ultra gloss or something similar. Then I go to the buffing compound and the buffing wheel. Last step for me is to put the pen back on the lathe and apply and buff the Renaissance Wax. My question is, wouldn’t the buffing compound and wheel remove the Renaissance wax if I reverse the last two steps?
And finally, where did you get that deburring tool. That’s cool. I want one.
Keep up the good work. I’ve learned a lot watching you.
That’s a good question. I always figured it was like buffing the wax on a car and brought out the shine. I’ll have to think about that one.
I got the tool off eBay. I just did a search and there were a ton of them. Reloaders use them.

Bob
Thanks for that tip on how to turn the bolt the correct way! I didn’t know I could do that. How can I buy some of those blanks?
Michael DeLawter is on Facebook as Lost River Woodshop. I also put his contact info in the comments of the video. Please tell him I sent you.

Bob
What part of Ohio are you from. I am literally just starting with pen turning. I haven’t even bought a lathe yet and would love to get advice from a fellow Buckeye!
Hi Rob, my band saw blade veers to the left when i cut do you have any suggestions?
Mine does too. I think it has to do with the thickness of the blade and the tension of the saw. I’ve just gotten use to it with my say and learned how to cut with the blade veering left.
Sorry I can’t be more help, I’ve not really figured this one out.
Regards,
Bob
here is a great video that shows you how to tune up your bandsaw th-cam.com/video/bxVyKsbuwZQ/w-d-xo.html
While it came out looking good I'm not a fan of sticking our flag on anything but a flagpole, too many of our citizens believe that putting the flag on everything is all it takes to be a patriot. Now I say this not to be disrespectful to you, but to point out a worrying belief that one can be a patriot without doing some form of service for your country.
pen looks grate and the blank works with that kit ty god bless rob uk
Thank you Robert. My friend really liked it so that made me happy.
