Guntur is where my maternal grandparents are from. When I lived in Abu Dhabi, we used to frequently travel to India. I used to go to their bungalow, in Guntur, as a kid and all my extended family would visit as well (3 uncles, 1 aunt and a load of cousins). My fondest memory was when all of us sat on the veranda, during a huge thunderstorm, and the power was gone out. If I could choose a moment I could travel back to, that was it. 15 years ago, we moved to New Zealand. I'm 28 now, and besides my mum, dad and brother, I don't have any other blood relatives I'm in touch with (maybe only 1 uncle, who still lives in a town nearby called Vuyyur). My grandparents passed away about 10 years ago. After their death, 2 uncles and 1 aunt had sold the house. My mum and the uncle from Vuyyur were opposed to it, but the majority had the decision, so that bungalow was sold (this was in 2009 roughly). In 2014, I went backpacking to India for 3 months and stopped in Vuyyur to see my uncle (only relative I met) and we took a bus to Guntur immediately. Both of us looked at the bungalow, where I had my childhood memories (he probably had his memories there too). We stopped by the front gates and looked at the home briefly (maybe 2 minutes), but we didn't say a word to each other. I haven't been back to India since then. :( Damn, I miss home.
Vijayawada and Guntur are awesome place for cultivation such as daals, rice, Mirchi etc... however after Amaravati... it's losing it's land to realtors..
proud to be a part of guntur..... and surprised to see subhani hotel which is very close to my home..... and mirchi yard where i used to play cricket in my childhood....
kichidi is not biryani rice .. kichidi is just kichidi.. Biryani is another dish..whole different one when compared to kichidi... (source : goes to that subhani hotel at least once a week )
Okay guys. The pickle which the host keeps calling as mango and ginger is not actually mango and ginger. It is a variety of ginger called "Mango ginger" or Mamidi Allam in Telugu. The shopkeeper says "mango ginger" together, if you notice.

Amaravati land is not even 30% of the entire Guntur district.
Even after 10 years there is no loss in market
