We travelled from New Zealand for this event and it is probably the best racing we’ve seen since Parramatta Raceway. All states in Australia need support for Motorsport as do New Zealand venues. This is where our future Motorsport legends are made. We can learn a lot from the full time USA drivers.
Such a great channel, Toby, I really appreciate your vids and the insight you give. I’ve been in the UK since 2018, hitting the states a couple of times for the outlaws, and the high limit this last feb in Florida, but can’t wait to move back to Perth in 2026. Thanks for making me feel connected to the racing I miss so much 🇦🇺
Thanks Toby. 👍👍 Doesn't matter what you call it or how it's "branded". As a dirt fan I could care less as long as the racing is competitive, fun, exciting. They'll get the timing and experience tuned in for the future. Thanks to the Aussie fans for supporting it and providing such a BEAUTIFUL facility. 👍👍🏁
8 round series starting Toowoomba late Feb followed by Sydney, Warrnambool, Mt Gambier, MurrayBridge possibly Darwin finishing in Perth, as well as Red hot summer, Aussie titles, Classic + state titles
It opens the possibility of a national High Limit series in Australia. If that did happen, it is a good base to start from without having to rely on a full field of Americans to make it sustainable.
Love the drone shots of the carpark and the rest of that amazing venue. Maybe if Sydney could get that dark clay and stop covering people with mountains of dust they too could attract good crowds like WA. Well done Toby, great video.
Look,I'm just saying this from a North American's perspective. Specifically from Pennsylvania's perspective. We do need Americans to race in Australia to gain interest in races like these in Australasia. We need these NAm (North American(s) streaming services like DirtVision & FloRacing to stream these tracks, and series. Even if they explain the culture of Australasian motorsports as a whole to the North American crowd. Because we very rarely get a glimpse into Aussie sprint car racing! These streaming services that broadcast races brought a BUNCH of interest in Aussie dirt racing on North American social media accounts. Which should bring a sense of pride, not complaints! A bit wordy, but those are my 3 cents.
I wish more guys from all over were able to come out and attend especially the other Americans elsewhere down under. But for going up against Speedweek and being squeezed between indoor events I think there’s things to improve on. Just not super crazy about going head to head with Speedweek like this
Being at the track, i thought it was great for a 1st try. Very good atmosphere. Though I was suprised at the lack of High Limits signage. It was also a bit weird hearing an American commentate in Chase Raudman. But it also made it more authentic. The presence of Rico was missed. Happy to see J-Mac get the win. He made a few none so subtle digs at Brad in the post race press conference! 🤣
As an Victorian i see alot of salty eastern staters in the comments here, the reason this even will not be moved to a Toowoomba or similar is because of the facility, The Perth Motorplex is by far the best track and fecility in Australia and will be the reason we get more international drivers over. The "Perth is to far" comments are dumb and overused considering drivers have gone kver there for alot less, this is $100,000 in prize money as stated 60% more than the nearest we have here in Australia.
You are right ,,, Perth is a large enough market to host such events that are ONLY possible with a good well managed / promoted facilities. Speedway Australia should beading discussion on this topic ,,,, not developing strategies behind closed doors that wait on Gov to fund it,,,, BECAUSE they wont..
It doesn't matter where you are in the world, Perth is a long way away. Driving to Murray Bridge, Bordertown, Mount Gambier, Avalon and Warrnambool over a week is a doddle compared to crossing the Nullarbor each way in a week. Speedweek started back in 1987 as part of WSS, so for SA/Vic Sprintcar fans, that's 37 years of Christmas / New Year routine you're asking them to break. If it's moved to February it might have more appeal. It would be after the school holidays are over and we'd not be paying over inflated prices for air travel and accommodation and it would no longer clash with the traditional post Christmas events. To be honest, this week at speedweek the only regular driver missing is McFadden. Oops and Matt Egel.
I’ve been to a lot of tracks and racing all over Aus, including woo at pcr back in the day, multiple classics since the early 90’s and WSS events and this event has been up there with the best of them. First time at the Plex and it’s something that has to be seen in the flesh to really admire 👍
I really enjoy this Chanel and the content is awesome. I have a question as I'm not up to date with a lot of the sprintcar specs. What is the major differences between American and Australian sprintcars ??😊
Actively shutting down plans for one actually.. Corbet offered land.. they declined and said they have no plans to build a speedway in the near future.. (speculation is the Olympics is taking precedent over a speedway) sucks hey..
@@DylanStaceyRacing Cheers,,, But who is the THEY in your comment. And where was the land. ?? And of course,, any plan waiting on Gov to fund or build ... THEY hate speedway and ICE vehicles so if your They = Gov then its going to end up with nothing in this day and age
Quick question, is Ty Wolfgang any relation to Doug Wolfgang? I had the pleasure of seeing him race down here in Australia, at the old Parramatta City Raceway, he was here with a very, very young Jac Hudenschild and I think either Jack Hewett or Steven Kinzer. All a very long time ago now. Anyway, Happy New Year 🍺
I think early December could be a good option, could entice some more Americans who didn’t come due to wanting to spend Christmas back home and doesn’t clash with Tulsa shootout/chilli bowl, then the American drivers who want to stay for Speedweek could do
I don’t get why Australia thinks they need to rely on Americans to build Sprintcar racing in Australia. I don’t see what this race does for Australian Sprintcars in Australia as a whole. We need World Series again.
It brings eyes to the sport to see world class drivers come over, just as it would if a V8 supercar driver came and drove, however we don't have the same crossover that NASCAR and Speedway do. I was there night 1, 2 and will be going tonight and the amount of people that came to watch was unbelievable, so not only has it boosted incomes for the track it's also brought eyes that may have never been to the speedway before. We do need WSS back however it wasent as successful as something like this, most of our eastern states drivers wouldn't come over for the Perth event or even the SA event. So it doesn't benefit WA that much. This event was a pleasure to attend coming from over east and I hope it continues next year, this venue is by far the best in Australia it's not even close and it will attract more and more Australian drivers as the years go on as High Limit has signed a multi year deal.
@@knoxville1782 I agree with you, I bet it was a great show if you live in Perth or have the money to fly there. Australia is too small to have races scattered around the country. I know streaming is a big thing but IMO TV does not do Sprintcar racing justice, nothing beats being there.
World series was based upon u.s specs. The biggest mistake in sprintcar racing in Australia, was when Bob tunks and co scam...took over the sprintcar control council late 1970's for full on u.s race specs. Alot of good drivers left the sport literally over night. Was a dark moment in time for speedway for those talented races. It hurt the sport and continues to do so.
Good question, but I would ask how many Australians invited High Limit drivers to come and run their cars? If you mentioned it in the video and I missed it, I apologize.
Watched on Flo and was hoping this would be awesome, but night 1 seemed like lots of "smoke and mirrors" and not much racing. East coast Speedweek on the other hand has been awesome.
High limit is a series. They came and put on a show like they do in the States. It's not like Knoxville, nowhere near it. Knoxville is Knoxville and nothings compares to it. This is the start to something big for Australians hopefully. It is not easy to get 10+ full time teams to travel all the across the world to race. Hopefully it gets that big.
The current dates work for most West Australians, many people are on holidays between Christmas and New Year. February may increase the American driver count but may decrease the spectator count. Maybe the first weekend in March which is a public holiday in Western Australia.
In my opinion I think high limit going to Australia was a good idea. For starters it gives us fans from the states to see drivers from Australia we never got a chance to see. Another positive is seeing the different tracks and different support divisions. I’m hoping to see super rods as a support division.
Dipping their toes in the water to gauge reaction etc and get better next time. Must say their marketing machine is on song and the commentators are on point Not to be negative but Aus commentators could take take some points from these guys they are always talking about the drivers sponsors. Just saying…
You’re doing a great job promoting and discussing this event Tobie 👏 going forward need to pick a better time for the event that encourages more US drivers to attend and stay and compete longer. Should only get better over time. Rico needs a minder next visit😈
if this moved to a feb date then i would be able to make it but being over xmas i gotta work , that plus the $65 ticket price, merch , food and a hour drive each way makes it a expensive night for me , but a feb move would put my butt in a seat for sure
Not February... racing in February means Florida... and not just Daytona (NASCAR Speedweek), Volusia (DirtCar Nationals), & New Smyrna (World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, including the NASCAR Modified opener)... USAC starts their season in Ocala before joining DirtCar Nats (the races at East Bay seem to be lost rather than relocated, which is disappointing)
Well I’m a regular at the speedway, here and in premier speedway, and I was disappointed to see racing, replaced with entertainment, only seven races the sprint cars, and half the field only had two races for the night, racing replaced with drawers, spinning wheels, and loud cars in the middle, format not good
I went night 2 and loved it. I only went coz Larson was racing and the only thing that disappointed me was the Williamson fans blowing those stupid horns constantly. I understand they think it’s cool to do when he drives by, but when you’ve paid $130 for two tickets, it ruins the experience to have these horns blowing constantly right in you ear.
Instead of making comments enjoy the weekend why because we have the venue it’s about building it into a international series say Perth ,warrambowl,Sydney when they get there act together then new zealand with minimum Perth 2 drivers to travel because travelling is expensive so it can grow if travel is covered bring Western Australia and South Australia drivers to nz build a big series
CHANGE THE DATE, don't divide the country at the biggest time of the year for Australian sprintcar racing, just silly running it on the same week as Speedweek on the east coast...
I would say you would have had a better or just as good a field at the mount I did think why did more good divers not go for the better prize money at Perth I would say SA has had 3 great nights of racing with probably 3 of Australian best divers in veal hallett McHugh if they could have got some more USA divers like gravel or haudenschild and Carson not being there did not help but people went
16 series regulars and only 1 full timer is there…. I like the thought but was expecting a whole lot more if they were going to call it high limit. February wouldn’t work for Americans at all.
Massive disappointment. Racing format makes for less races than we usually get in Australia. Whole dash concept is a waste of time. Small speedcar field split to fill the gaps. Have a 3 night pass, wont be going night 2 but will attend night 3 hoping that the racing improves for the big on. The 2023 Australian title was a show.
