They practically said no to cleaning the place, it smelled like death.
When they filmed in Philadelphia, they HATED the cleaning! Florida was a godsend to Nickelodeon, they could just wheel stuff outside and rinse it off. Warm climates may turn some people into jerks but they are perfect for Hollywood caliber entertainment like this show

It cracks you up because in the US the amount of medical treatment you get is dependent on how much money you have, instead of being a basic human right? Man, you are dark.

Does anyone remember Make the Grade? I don't think it lasted long, but I remember really enjoying it.
@Thoralmir Oh yeah, I do remember that. There was a time when that grand prize didn't seem like much to me, but as I got older, and became more interested in the mechanics of space travel, that seemed like an interesting place to see.

I'm surprised that Nick doesn't still show gameshows anymore. From what I hear, they are cheaper to make than other shows.

Their most recent game show, Webheads, didn't do well ratings wise. They brought back Figure It Out from 2012-2013, hosted by network mainstay Jeff Sutphen (he's the Clark Kent to Pick Boy's Superman)

without that one person (lauribeth i think was her name) it was dumb. summer sanders was the superior host and that dj guy from the first one was cool too. also the answer board in the new one looked dumb
God I loved this show as a kid. I always loved when a challenge or the obstacle course was won. I wanted my family to get on the show so much but it never happened. It makes me sad that shows like Double Dare, GUTS or Legends of the Hidden Temple are never on anymore. :(

As someone who also has OCD, I now have a fuck ton of respect for Marc Summers after watching this. He really does deserve a medal (and like, a million dollars)
In Canada we kind of had our own version of this called Uh-Oh!.
I remember on What Would You Do, Mark Sommers used to get pissed and send people to the "Pie Pod" 😂

Back when the Nickelodeon Studios were open at Universal. I actually got to do this on the tour. It was a hell of a lot of fun.
I also remember he did "What Would You Do?" I loved that show. The best part was the wall o' stuff.
I have OCD, and you can deal or even enjoy things that go against your order as long as you know you can easily fix it afterwards.

God this show was so awesome. Nick was so amazing in the 90s. Massive creative teams making great shows. Miss it a lot.

Not gonna lie, I felt like saluting when you told the story about Summers having OCD. Just...wow. That's genuinely impressive and weirdly inspiring.
You know what's really shitty? Mark Summers was supposed to host the revival of Hollywood Squares, but his going public with his OCD battle cost him a job as host of a Hollywood Squares revival.He was replaced by Tom Bergeron. I would've sued but I'm not sure if OCD was looked at as a condition that would've warranted a lawsuit as a disability. Either way, such bullshit. The very fact Mark Summers persevered despite his condition proves he had stellar work ethic. What a shame.
BUT THEN AGAIN...HOWIE MANDEL has severe mysophobia (which he takes meds for now), and we all know about his breakdowns on America's Got Talent attributed to his condition...AND he hosted Deal Or No Deal, so Summers might have a case to sue Nickelodeon on grounds of prejudice against his condition...maybe...
...well damn, that IS shitty. What a bunch of assholes...*shakes head* Poor Mark. I wish he DID sue, but I suppose that's easy to say from the outside.

Who Didn’t Love Double Dare as a Kid Back in The 90s?
we had a similar show like this in Canada called Uh Oh except there wasn't any parental participation well except for a couple of Slime Tour Segments late in it's run. I actually appeared in a Slime Tour segment as a spectator, and felt the brunt end of a whoopi cushion full of food colouring. Needless to say I had an awesome story to tell my classmates when I got to school later that day

I remember Double Dare. It was my childhood. I also remember when they briefly brought it back in the 2000s re-branding it Double Dare 2000. It had a different host though.

I've heard, while he isn't exactly comfortable with fame, he adores kids and is very welcoming to fans..... WITHIN REASON.

I honestly never got to see the show when it aired on TV, but I remember watching the VHS tape that you used for the majority of the physical challenge clips over and over again. Kings Island had something similar to this when the park was owned by Paramount in the kids' area for one season. God I miss those days.
Thanks for allowing me to rediscover my childhood.
Now I'm going to make some popcorn and watch the series finale of Gargoyles that I never saw.

Marc Summers was the coolest game show host ever! I can't imagine the sweet hell he went through, all while taking it like a fucking champ. Not all heros wear capes, my friends.

Him being in a messy environment when he had OCD probably helped him a little a huge part of the treatment for OCD is aversion therapy like putting dirt on your hands or in some cases having a mud bath

We got this kind of shows on TV in 90s
With all the footage now on TH-cam and similar sites, I'd LOVE to see the N.C. FINALLY do that Nickelodeon game shows episode he teased in season 2 of the Critic.
We had our own version of this in the UK, lasted a few years.only difference was the teams were just two people on each team, no families.
I think double dare inspired Fun House a few years later.
I wonder how Critic would feel about Double Dare being on Nickelodeon again

Fun fact: You know those studies that say people injure themselves in their bathrooms than in any other room in their homes? Well, the _Double Dare_ sets were dressed in tiles from those very same bathrooms!

I remember in the 2000 version the first few episodes the blue plate special(pb & j) was either third or second to last. If it was the Blt instead of the pb&j it was easy but on a few shows the blue plate special was 1st

I agree. Mark Summers should have that award as it is totally well deserved and earned in his case. A fun, zany, crazy kind of show that was a ton of fun to watch.

Double Dare was back in the golden age of Nickelodeon. When we had "You Can't Do That on Television", "Hey Dude", "Are You Afraid of the Dark" and "Roundhouse". And of course, the ever wonderful Nick-At-Night. That in particular kept me up quite late many times, I must say.
Shows like Double Dare and "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego" actually had me interested in game shows, a genre I would normally ignore like the plague unless I was sick and nothing else was on.

You have to imagine that for insurance medical purposes that Nickelodeon slime is edible and body safe... in fact it is, it's a mix of apple sauce and vanilla pudding with green food coloring according to a later interview with mark summers the host
Not only OCD, but since that video, survived a taxi crash that broke multiple facial bones and even won a life-threatening bout over leukemia.

You know, Double Dare was the first game show that put Nickelodeon on the map. There’s also two spin off game shows like Super Sloppy Double Dare and Family Double Dare. I kinda loved it because the most important part of the show was the obstacle course. Double Dare may be the most sloppiest, messiest and grossest game show ever, but only because it makes kids feel dirty.
His reward should be called "the irony reward".
As a person with OCD, the enxiety should've been painful, although there are many types, so maybe he hasn't about cleaness and only about organization.

Double Dare, how i loved thee, Summers was an excellent host and thankfully he found future work with the show Unwrapped on Food Network, so this wasnt all he ever did.
Damn this show looks good. I don't know if it's worth it. That host is a good sport and needs some love.
Wild & Crazy Kids was also an excellent show! Kids taking over a mall!?!? WHAT!! W-Wild and Crazy Kiiiids!
Fun fact: The money won was only there because the first season was filmed in Philadelphia and many of the kids were poor. The producers said they would have felt like complete assholes if some kid couldn't keep his bike that he won just because he couldn't pay the taxes on it.
