Skoda Octavia RS245 - Modifying the stock intake box for better airflow

  • A proper intake will be installed eventually on this car, but till then, we can do some quick mods to the stock intake system to help the car breathe better. There is a 'snow grate' placed under the stock air filter that is designed to prevent snow from getting into the intake system. Now in India this little feature is of no use, however because of its design the grate does restrict airflow and removing it should improve the cars ability to breathe freely.
    This mod won't increase hp/torque, but should improve efficiency, maybe reduce turbo lag, and give u a bit more of the turbo sounds, especially with the car in Sport Setting. I found that in normal driving mode the turbo sound was audible a bit, but with the car in sport mode (especially the Gearbox) the sound increase was very noticeable.
    Its a free mod that can be done by anyone using the tools that comes with the car, and I don't see it impacting warranty in any way.
    While this is on a Skoda Octavia RS245, this mod can be done on any VW/Skoda/Audi car that is based on the MQB platform. Even the MQB diesel cars should have a similar intake design.
    Enjoy!

    This plate is for reducing the sound to pass the db test (regulations), you could install and aftermarket gauze filter as K&N for better performance.

    i have done this stock oem airbox mode 2 n half years back with CTS inlet pipe n Revotechnik hose also added aFe dry drop-in filter, felt instant throttle response then i had dremel the front air scoop to make it direct air flow to the airbox which really help in reducing IAT.

      Yea the inlet drilling is next on the cards.. this is a simple mod to free up some airflow, although some vendors might argue till the sun sets that this isn’t effective.. lol

    • @PrithwiRay

    In my experience. Removing the snow guard didn't help much if you are still on stock filter. The filtration of the stock filter is so good that removing snow guard didn't have any impact to the air flow as a whole.
    In fact if you try to fan yourself with the snow guard you can't feel the wind cos the air cuts through the snow guard pretty good.
    Just wanna set the expectation right for all viewers, this is not a magic mod. No harm, no cost but also not much difference.
    Save your 10 mins from doing this mod, unless you pair this task with an aftermarket drop-in filter...

      Now about the question:
      The air intake is where the engine get feeds by air in to the combustion chamber, thins is internal combustion engine and needs to burn fuel, and air is required for combustion. By removing the snow plate it looks as if it will make the air flow better (not sure it will but..) this is the purpose of the video owner

    I am loving your modification videos. Great work! One thing occurs to me, though. If you drive through a flooded road, the snow grate will help block a wash of water entering the engine, and help prevent ingestion of water. It won't stop it, but surely it will help somewhat? (See this video for an example of what I mean. th-cam.com/video/FQkDRJDcDnA/w-d-xo.html)

    • @PrithwiRay
      @PrithwiRay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well yes it will for sure, but if your taking a turbocharged car thru roads that are flooded enough to reach your intake, your intercooler and gearbox will get filled up with water way before it reaches ur intake.
