    ABOUT ME I grew up in a cabinet shop and was born to be a woodworker. In the past few years when work slowed in the custom cabinet industry, I converted a few friends Vans and SUV's so they had more storage for adventuring, work, or just the weekend beach getaway. Before I knew it I had my own business making people's ideas come to life. I design and build all kinds of custom woodwork and vehicles here at my shop in Huntington Beach, California! Have you made a bunk bed? I'm wanting to try to make a double bunk with a 3rd slide out bed behind the drivers seat and I'll need to have a 3rd passenger seat. Then i want a kitchen set up on the back door with storage lining the wall behind 3rd seat on the passenger side inclusive of cabinet space for appropriately partitioning/venting/sourcing power/gas/electric bananas.
    I love your channel 😊😊😊

    It's great those shelves can move but you should consider doing something to lock them in place a little better. Gravity is all that's holding them on, and if you go over a serious bump they could jump up and ruin your day lol.

    Hey Brian, how is all the weight going into these vans? It was something I never really worried about but have chatted with a few people recently who spoke like it was the end of the world!

    • @SolidWoodWorx
      @SolidWoodWorx  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The way I figure it is Vans are maybe to either fit at least 7 be passengers which would be around 1000-1200 pounds! Or the van is used for cargo either way there suspension should be fine for holding some weight. But with any vehicle when you have more weight in it wether it is passengers, cargo, or your build out you will feel it when driving. Most Vans have a pretty solid engine as well to go along with the weight there supposed to hold.

    • @RealHankShill
      @RealHankShill 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In truth, you dont want to be loading up the van with heavy materials. Its not that they cant take it, its that they cant take it AS LONG.
      #1 MPG. Why load up your van with all this unneeded weight using wood, making it more expensive to get anywhere.
      #2 Transmission. Regardless if your van is rated for the amount of weight you are adding to it, which it usually actually isnt in a lot of these builds, your drivetrain is going to be stressed more and more with each pound. So if you want your vehicle to last and not have to throw a $3,000 transmission into it in the middle of your trip or winter, then do what should be done, and mind the weight.
      Build out of foam like the RV and boat industry. No reason at all to use wood. Its heavy, and it rots, and it grows mold like crazy.

      go get some large diameter forstner bits and empty out some of the waste on the underside and other hidden areas - if you spread them appropriately, you'll reduce weight and retain most of the strength and retain the looks too.

    Hi. Are you in California? This is similar to what I want to do with my bed. But I want my slats more narrow so they can fit inside the bench. Also I need a hook up to hold a hammock above the bed and wooden bathtub with a hole cut out of the bottom. Can you make a good wooden tub that doesn't leak? I can make it my self or help. I am not loaded with money. But I was also wondering how much did this project cost the customer?And about how much would you charge me for what I want? I am looking for an open concept floor plan like this one so that I am able to walk straight through the van. And so it doesn't take a long time to complete the job. Thank you for showing this video. Now I see this can be done for me.

    • @SolidWoodWorx
      @SolidWoodWorx  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Kenneth Hudson sometimes I will cut holes out of the bottom or backs of cabinets where it'll still be structurally sound but it will limit weight. I will use thinner Woods wear it is applicable like in drawers or backs of cabinets. I use adjustable shelving so the customers can take shelves out if they don't need them.
