We held a pirate camp for our grandkids July 4th weekend and this was our playlist. Each kid completed their turn on the obstacle course to the opening anthem. Made all the difference.
i agree with all prior statements though to be honest it merely goes to show how iconic a composer Hans zimmer is, he personified the sound of pirating. he did it so well it's an unimaginable for composers to break free of his influence. I for one have no idea how to compose a pirate theme without the 3/4, The drammatic climbing up the minor scale to a percussive hit, the twiddling flutes, the sforzando strings, the booming brass. This is now what it means to be a pirate
@@louispearson8306 Eh, I slightly disagree. Personally, I can't stand Zimmer's 2000's and 2010's works, and part of the reason his "style" is so prevalent now is NOT because he's iconic and a lot of composers mimic that style, but because of his Remote Control Productions, which has a monopoly and scores like 90% of Hollywood movies now. They're infamous in the score collecting world for their open re-use and retooling of themes. Just look up compilations and you'll see dozens of examples of some of Zimmer's "Pirates" music actually first appearing in older, non-pirate films composed by his cronies or even himself. James Horner had a lot of similar accusations, but at least in his case he was "ripping himself off only" and actually did it as part of his "style." Zimmer and Remote Control Productions just copy and paste music so lazily, and the new """"epic"""" style they've created is so terrible from a musical perspective. It feels very cut & paste - like in a way only lazily composing in a DAW could do, and the sound is nearly always compressed and limited to crud - another victim of the loudness war. Need an example? Pick any 70's - 90's John Williams or Danny Elfman track, put on a set of decent headphones, and turn the volume up to 100. It won't explode your ears because of the dynamic range of a well recorded REAL orchestra. Zimmer might sound cool and bombastic at normal listening volumes, but turn it up and it's ear-piercing garbage (and dangerous for your ears, too... so be careful) Because it's just so compressed it's just flat noise. You can't "enjoy" it in the same way. Zimmer and Remote Control Productions, imo, are like movie score fast food. Yeah, it gets the job done, and clearly, millions of people settle for it - and even 'love' it. But nothing beats the traditional, well prepared & tended to, best(s). Plus, Zimmer and RCP heavily supplement their orchestra stuff with not just synths and stuff (which can be cool, a la John Carpenter) but fake vst's of orchestra too. And it's just so synthetic. It's SO bad (and it's changing how many perceive orchestral music) that I've literally heard people refer to Danny Elfman's stuff (even his recent stuff, which has similar problems) as sounding like "christmas music." No, that's how an orchestra is supposed to sound. But, just so this isn't a "bash Zimmer novel," I will say that I love a lot of his 1990's scores. Lion King, Muppets Treasure Island, The Rock, etc. Heck, I even really appreciate a lot of his synth stuff from the 70's & 80's (Video Killed the Radio Star, etc.). But, his film scores are terrible - at least imo. (and many other film score & classical fans opinions) And the worst part is, people blatantly plagiarizing his work (whether encouraged in RCP, or selfishly) is now touted as "being influenced/inspired by." I HATE what he did to pirate music. His Muppets Treasure Island score is much more how pirate music should sound, imo. It used to be so fun and full and adventurous. Like John William's Hook score. Now it's just all the same. Drunk solo violin. The same swing beat rhythm for melody. The exact same orchestration... On and on. It's SO lame.
@@louispearson8306 Just remembered, to even better illustrate my point - technically, none of this is Hans Zimmer's music. Klaus Badelt actually "composed" the PotC stuff. He scored the first film. Zimmer only scored pirates 2 - 4. But because everyone in Remote Control Productions share like same needle like depressed addicts, similar themes pop up in nearly all of their films. So it's anybody's guess who ACTUALLY composed these songs in the first place!

-Jessica Bury none of these are even like pirates of the carribean music, and i should know. For 2 years i've been playing and perfecting those song on my trumpet.
though one must admit that it was also a terrible time for many people, I have to agree with you overall- in the modern world, the adventure there is to be had pales in comparison to the Golden Age.
“Adventure, mystery and freedom”? That’s romanticizing the heck out of it. For most people it meant that they weren’t safe to cross bodies of water and their livelihoods and their lives were at risk. People with families trying to make ends meet getting robbed and killed. That’s like saying that the Golden Age of carjackings were a time of adventure, mystery, and freedom.
And being a pirate wasn’t all fun and games, ships always required many people, so ships suffered overcrowding, diseases, lack of proper food and many other things
love hearing music in relation of books i read, i was reading ww2 book and playing epic music, now im reading the treasure island book and listening to this

This is unbelievable. There are people who are capable of releasing maybe or two track of this epic quality in their entire career and you´re just plowing through this like there was nothing to it. I´m very impressed.
men dream, but dreams hold no value here. what was first the bright light of hope has turned into a long night of captivity, lost in the dark, we surrender our minds and forget who we are. But some of us have woken up. They remind us that we have a choice, To stand, not kneel. To oppose, not obey. And to live, not just exist
Would adding a third category count as changing your mind? Just look up "Birth of an age" by Clamavi De Profundis or just about anything else from them.

Jessica Bury lmao
Jessica Bury so so true... Pirates of Carribean is easily #1

KENWAY! In a world without gold, we might've been heroes. Requiescat in pace, Edward Thatch(Teach) aka Blackbeard.
"THATCH!!!!!"
The Golden age of pirates was a time of adventure, mystery and freedom. These songs capture a time lost in history.
though one must admit that it was also a terrible time for many people, I have to agree with you overall- in the modern world, the adventure there is to be had pales in comparison to the Golden Age.
Agreed!
“Adventure, mystery and freedom”? That’s romanticizing the heck out of it. For most people it meant that they weren’t safe to cross bodies of water and their livelihoods and their lives were at risk. People with families trying to make ends meet getting robbed and killed. That’s like saying that the Golden Age of carjackings were a time of adventure, mystery, and freedom.
you know that from a point you are most certianly RIGHT!
And being a pirate wasn’t all fun and games, ships always required many people, so ships suffered overcrowding, diseases, lack of proper food and many other things
