The new strings were definitely brighter and I thought they sounded better on the overdriven stuff but even though they weren't as bright, I preferred the tone of the old strings for the acoustic and clean sounds. It's all subjective but sometimes warm sounds better than bright. Cool demonstration video!

Can 💯 hear the difference Sophie Definitely brighter and a fuller sound
I Use D’Addario XS strings on all my guitars 👌👍👍👍
As you say they have great playability and longevity
Don’t change my strings often enough I guess HAHA
When you play every day you don’t always notice the gradual change in sound .
Using fast Fret on my strings too . Keep the strings feeling buttery
    👍👍👍👍😎

I change the strings on my main electric weekly. The acoustics get new strings almost every time I pick them up. (Mainly because I don’t give them enough love) and my one Floyd-equipped guitar probably has the same wound strings for 6 months and only gets a b or e string if it breaks. (Locking floating trems are annoying.)
The p bass has round-wounds that only get changed if they begin to oxidize, and the stingray bass gets new round wounds every time I track bass.
If I could afford it and had a tech, I’d change strings daily. The tone difference is massive.

Do you have a decent winding tool? I have a Swiss Army knife kinda all in one string tool with pliers and stuff.
      Takes away half the hassle.

I bet alot of people don't know how awesome their guitars actually are because they are using old strings and the bridge is not setup correctly.

new shiny strings sounding clearly better and since I'm a Floyd Rose guy I was forced to learn to maintain them.. in the right setup rusty crusty strings can also sound good but lockjaw incoming

Wow! I can't believe how much of a difference there is! I'm really quite surprised.
What I'd like to know is how many *hours* a set of strings is good for. By that, I mean, how many hours can I play my guitar on a set of strings before I need to change them. No one ever talks about that. It's always "every few months" or "when they feel bad." I'm too new to know when strings "feel bad." And I don't want to waste money -- or play on a set of strings too long -- by changing them every X number of months or weeks without taking into account how much play-time those strings have had. Is there no information out there about the number of play-hours a set of strings is good for?

i play strings until they break. the real reason to change strings is to get ahead of string breakage during performance. i've broken about as many strings right after putting them on, as strings that died of old age. it's hit and miss, i've played strings that had part of the wrappings missing and they still played fine.

Some boil old strings to clean them the reason is metal gets oxidation causing the tone loss over time.

i doubt anyone can really hear the difference in a taste test. my friend's strings used to rust, felt gross to play, but i'd play it and he liked that i was cleaning the rust off cause i didn't sweat like him

I feel like some of the nuance is lost through TH-cam compression techniques. In person it’s night and day difference.
I feel inspired for a guitar maintenance day. You know it’s been too long when you pick up a guitar and start worrying about breaking a string.

I honestly can’t hear a tonal difference. I find the biggest difference with new strings is more in the way they feel than the way they sound. Satriani never changes his strings on his guitars when he’s at home unless they physically snap off.

new strings sound like garbage, springy high end, and don't tune for about 2 to 3 weeks. i played the same strings on a floyd system, only changed them when they broke to the point the were too short to put back on. still had three of six of the same strings on my guitar -18?- years later after recording 7 albums. still sounded fine to me. only changed them because i added length to my neck to microtonalize it, so i had to put on longer strings. super slinkies 10- 46 is the main brand, one replacement string was a who knows.

I’m literally using 5 year old strings I’ve used daily from stock. I’ve wanted to do a video like this for a while, not my main guitar but I used to play for roughly 45 minutes daily for 4 years. They sound bad :/
