Next video.....How to replace on the car or How to remove steering rack???? Would be good to see if it's accessible to replace bolt for bolt whilst still on the car. Don't necessarily have to replace the belt.
On the evoque, all 5 bolts are replaced on the recall, not just the motor ones, and if you do them one at a time, there’s no risk of the motor and belt coming off
Hi guys, enjoy your content on the L494. Was wondering if you would be able to do a video on turbocharger replacement on the Range Rover Sport SDV6 please? And thanks again for all those videos you guys have, it's very informative...
Hi Simon and everyone ! I have a problem with my steering on L405. The steering is reconditioned, but it still makes strange noises :( It would help me a lot if you could take a look. I have saved the video on my channel. It's saved in shorts....
If they do suffer the same as the Evoque then owners of affected vehicles need to be aware that they could lose all steering and not just assistance. On the Evoque the belt gets chewed and binds the motor hence the horrible noises as shown in the clip. The only good thing is that it usually happens when the car is stationary or at low speed. This is why JLR have been forced to recall the Evoques.
@@L663 It seems to be that the Evoques lose one bolt allowing the motor to twist. It's much better to have the motor fall off completely as then, as you say, you just lose assistance. Hadn't noticed the wear. Did see a bit of build up on the motor though which is the other problem people see where there has been water ingress into the motor which causes an internal failure.
Bought my L494. Just 10 Days of Amazing Driving Experience (5.0 Supercharged) Drove it in Rain water and Boom goes the Steering Assistance. Now I’m staring at replacing the entire steering rack assembly. Do, i need to replace the entire assembly?
possibly - it may be repairable with a new belt - we sell the belt kits Talk to Land Rover first - i just got a recall for the Evoque ... maybe they will do a recall for the sport L494 Nice car - i have the 5L supercharged too ! Simon
In December 2023 at -4c after 2 days in below freezing The bolt failed on my Range rover sport 2015 , it showed no sign of corrosion as well. as soon as we turned the ignition we got the noise from the steering wheel , so it failed without any action on our part. The AA Technician said it happens often with these cars, £3000 repair 20% of the value of the car!
I have a range rover velar 2019 diesel and have the same sound as the one you show as example dies this kit work for my car I would gladly appreciate a little help
I can definitively say this belt does not work on a 405. It is too long Edit/update: okay so I’m leaving my original comment up because it’s what I thought at the time. My belt broke completely and there was absolutely no steering. You could not move the steering wheel at all. I was able to remove the housing, replace the belt, put everything back together and the belt was chirping horribly like it was jumping the teeth. I initially thought the belt was too long and I wanted to try anything rather than go through the install again. I thought maybe there was a timing issue with the motor and steering rack positioning. So I removed the motor for the housing and with the wheels off the ground turned the steering lock to lock and then centered it. Once I installed the motor again it didn’t jump the belt any more. I’ve driven it about 20 miles so far, but it feels like it’s correct. I hope this helps somebody out there, because I was pretty defeated at the time.
Hi buddy, Having the same issue. I thought its something to do with the car not knowing when slow down the motor. Could you go in detail please how you managed to synchronise it?
@@DimiGoldbergyeah. First I made sure the wheels were pointing straight then I jacked up the front to take pressure off of the steering rack. Then I removed the 3 bolts that hold on the motor and removed it from the housing. Once it was sitting free, not touching anything, I turned the steering wheel all the way left and then all the way right and then centered it back up. Then I reinstalled the motor and haven’t had a problem since. I’ve driven probably 5-10k miles since the belt change.
@@2blkSSs thanks for your reply, highly appreciated! Just to confirm, this procedure is done whilst engine is running? So power steering is on? Sounds like its manual calibration of steering angle, a bit weird Landrover could not do an option via obd.
Yeah, my Launch OBD system has two - none of them did anything. Ok, so I'll wait until the new belt arrives and then tackle this for the third time as I destroyed one belt already. Hopefully, your procedure works. The sound (clunking) that belt makes is like something is not attached.
Would this work on the tesla model S? I believe 2012 to 2016 tesla model s steering rack and pinion was made by land rover with part number e32-3200-db
could you include all the o-rings and seals in the kit?
Very good information and explenation.
Glad it was helpful!

Yes replace one at a time if just replacing them
Did you replace them for free under warranty or?
What happened to the L494? Have you sold it? Also, do you plan on making anything for the newer range 2018+?

Aluminimum bolts in the steering rack. What a bright idea🤪

I have heard that sometimes the bed jams but no often. Did you see there seems to be wear on the edge of the old belt in the video

thank you Simon. Let me check with my LandRover Dealer first. unfortunately mine is out of warranty because its 2014

Interesting that this was an issue in the cold !
I guess Land Rover did not offer any warranty
How can I make sure the belt is tensioned?
I have a range rover velar 2019 diesel and have the same sound as the one you show as example dies this kit work for my car I would gladly appreciate a little help
By 2019 the better bolts had been fitted so the problem of failing bolts should not impact your car - but i guess your belt could still have issues ?

My mercedes power steering rack has sound, do you think it is because of its dry, needs grease lubrication?
A bit of lube always helps
Diagnel teeth stops the belt running off to either side while rotating
Are they steel replacement bolts? If so will they react with the casing? White grease protection perhaps? Cheers 👍🏻🙏🦘
Yes they are steel but I think the coating stops any reaction
Nice work
Thanks
Did you have to tension that belt ?
I do not think there is a mechanism to adjust the tension
Do you have sunshades for all the windows of Defender including the boot window? If not, can u make one?

The steering is made by Bosch and is used on the Tesla and the Land Rover models
@@L663 and Mercedes has the same belt in the W212 also
Does the belt wear out? I there a way to adjust the tension on the belt?
I do not think it wears - this issue is the bolts failing. Good question on the tension--- not sure there is an adjustment.
do you have the number of the repair kit or a link where i can buy it?

Morning !
Have you got a video of removing/installing the rack in a L405? Mine has developed play so trying to decide weather it’s a day job or not🫣
Sorry we have not done this one yet !
Have you checked track rod ends etc first ?
🙏🙏
