Brad was a very special talent . I knew from his role in The Client that he was unusually gifted as an actor . The acting in Bully was so convincing that it made the film seem almost like a documentary . I waited for his tribute at the Oscars that year and it never came . I was so disappointed by the snub . I no longer care to watch the awards but Brad Renfro lives in my heart forever . I love you little buddy .

I love Brad Renfro! Not just for his looks but for his raw talent both in film and in music, he was so natural and believable. He really immerses himself in any role that he's in, he's very versatile and there's not a lot of actors these days who can pull that off. Too bad he was usually typecasted as a troubled kid in some of his films but overall you can see a lot of great talent in the way he portrays any character just like River Phoenix did. I have watched a lot of Brads' films, listened to some of his songs and I am really impressed and at the same time sad because he could've been much bigger had he not fallen into the traps of addiction. It might've something to do with the rumors of abuse and whatnot.... Despite his demise he is still one of the best actors that hollywood and the world has ever seen. Also, I have never heard or even read anything bad that was said about him by people who had known him.. Despite his "bad boy persona" that hollywood and the media wants to show, I have never come across any news of him having been involved in assault, or domestic violence, or trash talking other people or their "exes" that some of the hollywood bad boys are known for. I hope he's in a better place now. God bless his soul. :)

He and many other child actors would not have become addicted to drugs or alcohol if the producers weren't raping them. Expose them all or burn it to the ground.

@@streetcarp4938 Jonathan Taylor Thomas also had the safer route of a Disney-produced sitcom working with Tim Allen for several years. But JTT was probably smart to choose an education instead of shorter-term "Tiger Beat " stardom.
None of that is to negate the fact Brad Renfro did have a natural gift as a young actor and gave some powerfully affecting performances in about a half-dozen dozen or more good to excellent films, the very best being 'The Client', 'The Cure', 'Sleepers', 'Telling Lies in America', 'Apt Pupil' and 'Bully'.
But wouldn't it have been nice to have seen Renfro live to old age, continuing to make intelligent films and maybe even starring in a more unique TV sitcom (a la 'Seinfeld', 'Arrested Development' or 'Curb Your Enthusiasm') as he reached middle age?
What Brad Renfro lacked was a strong guardian or parent to provide him direction and some financial restrictions, such that there would lave been consequences for his bad behavior off-screen. He was basically just a nice but troubled, underprivileged kid who was raised in a Tennessee trailer park, had a brief fling with Hollywood success and its inherent excess (which contributed to his premature death), and returned to Tennessee in-between film stints, sadly dying in a period when his best film work was several years behind him. I just keep think o that quot by Larry Clark, the guy who directed Renfro in his last artistic success, "Bully." Clark said of Renfro, "He was 18 but looked 35 years old."

I remember the year Renfro died, and I had been watching him since I saw him in 'Sleepers', and he really was the 'stand out' in that film; he even overshadowed the 'adult' actors in that film. I actually remember waiting for his face to appear on the screen at the Oscars that year, and couldn't believe it when he didn't appear. It was actually from that moment on that I just saw the Oscars as a massive farce. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't some 'fan girl' that hung on Renfro's every move, but having watched his career from a young age, I couldn't believe how pathetically shallow the Oscars were from that moment on. I mean, they either didn't even know that he'd died, or didn't see him as 'worthy' of appearing on/at their pathetic 'made for television' award ceremony.
Seriously! It was Renfro's snub that truly made me realise how pathetic Hollywood really is, and how little I really care for their pathetic self-aggrandizing bullshit.
I've never watched the Oscars since.

LJY08 All the awards are not necessarily given to the best! Academy awards Grammys all those! 1st of all , they are based on popularity...has to sell a lot to be nominated...usually! And many awards entertainment or even sports...are FIXED! EVEN SALES THEY BUY THE BILLBOARDS( CHARTS)! Even major Championships are rigged! And to get in the entertainment world is connections not based on the true talents! It's the same in every country in this world! They are like mafia meets royalties...lol.They are all related to someone in the business = royals in a different way & do a lot bad things , illegal stuffs & get away with!= mafias! My club, Original Deuces is still strong today here in So.Cal, Inland Empire area, flying our Deuces plaque in our back window. I actually have 3 Deuces tattoos on me. Just because it's my club. We have several members, all into the greaser, rockabilly, 50's custom car scene. Hopefully one day you could check it out, maybe sign my dashboard on my 51 Merc?!..... The real tragedy about Brad Renfo is he was given way too many chances. He was never held accountable for his drug addiction, nor his arrests. When he did get caught, he got the celebrity treatment: slap on the wrist and told "bad boy, don't do that again." I know this sounds harsh, but he should have got the treatment non famous people get for his arrests, prison. If he had gone to prison he may still be alive. We will never know. It is a shame Brad Renfro was not held accountable for his actions, and allowed to beat the legal system. That ended up costing Brad Renfro his life. Drug addiction is a serious thing, and even famous celebrities need to be held to the same standards as ordinary people.

spencer palmer I find that to be completely false and it’s obvious you have no fucking clue what you’re talking about either that or you’re a complete fucking idiot. First of all the kid came out of the womb addicted to heroin because of his mother he had to be weaned off it as a baby, he was born into a family of addicts and once he was discovered outside of his trailer park as a child and became a paycheck to his guardians he was watched by his grandma who was a huge enabler buying him drugs and alcohol when he was NINE YEARS OLD he got arrested a few times like most addicts do and he didn’t get a “slap on the wrist” he got the same amount of time as anyone else would get for petty crimes and simple possession charges. What do you think they lock you up for 5 years for catching you with a dime bag? That’s not how it works nor did he ever beat or get any of his cases dismissed. He never had a million opportunities he had one single opportunity and he was failed by his own blood. I suggest you learn the topic you comment on especially when it comes to someone’s death, someone who isn’t here to defend themselves otherwise it makes you look like a complete asshole when you’re speaking on a topic you seem to know nothing about. This isn’t the life of Corey haim he’s someone who had a million chances.

spencer palmer Are you kidding!? A prison, or a jail is the place the most of criminals LEARN MORE BAD STUFF FROM OTHER PRISONERS! AND COME OUT OFTEN WORSE! WHAT HE REALLY NEEDED WAS A TRUE SUPPORT FROM HIS FAMILY & FRIENDS TO WAKE HIM UP & PUT HIM BACK ON A RIGHT TRACK!!! Not to mention , in a jail / prison , they get raped! He would had become everybody's bitch! If he went there! If you Google his upbringing...and other tragedy he and his family had gone thru ...you might be able to understand him more. But really number one reason to blame is the entertainment business world! Especially for kids! I AM STRONGLY AGAINST ANY CHILD TO GO IN THE INDUSTRY! THEY ALL GET MESSED UP! BESIDES NATALY PORTMAN...I CAN'T THINK OF ANY CHILD ACTOR / ACTRESS GREW UP & DEVELOPED RIGHT WITHOUT ANY TRAGEDY & MESS! CAN YOU!? Almost all do drugs , or alcohol abuse , or both. Many have their parents as managers & they go greedy & steal their own kid's money! And they sue their parents! That's another UN USUAL ABNORMAL SITUATION THAT WE NEVER SEE IN GENERAL.That hurt them a lot , too! And they all grow up so VERY FAST BY FORCE! They go thru with numbers of lovers !!!... that is another UNUSUAL environment & situations! And they all lie! Almost nothing is true about the world & business! That make a lot sad unhappy people! And it takes a big toll on kids who are still growing up as they are more naive & absorb all they see & hear! They are way more susceptible than older ones! And they get sleazy! And there are people around them make the access to drugs so easy! Theses are the reasons why he became like that! Going to jail wouldn't have helped him! Many drug users go to jail & still doing drugs & keep going in & out of jails!!! I've never used drugs really. And I never will! But also know that it's the best not to start!!! As many junkies will tell you , once you touch it it's so difficult & impossible to stop! You'll always be a drug user! And that is a powerful thing to say! So...the real problem is THE INDUSTRY!!! NOT TO MENTION THE CHILD MOLESTATION HAVE BEEN GOING ON IN THE INDUSTRY!

I ALWAYS FELT THAT THE ACTING SKILLS HE SHOWED PLAYING THE LITTLE BRAT CHARACTER IN "THE CLIENT" WAS TOO NATURAL! REAL! ALTHOUGH HE WAS TRULY A GIFTED ACTOR! NOW I KNOW! I WAS RIGHT ! BUT WHAT A SHOCKER! REAL HEART BREAKING!!! Somebody has to stop these abuses to kids in this country!
