    Histoire du Tango attempts to convey the history and evolution of the tango in four movements: Bordello 1900, Café 1930, Nightclub 1960, and Concert d'Aujourd'hui. Piazzolla provided program notes that expand on the individual movements:
    00:16 *Bordello, 1900:* The tango originated in Buenos Aires in 1882. It was first played on the guitar and flute. Arrangements then came to include the piano, and later, the concertina. This music is full of grace and liveliness. It paints a picture of the good natured chatter of the French, Italian, and Spanish women who peopled those bordellos as they teased the policemen, thieves, sailors, and riffraff who came to see them. This is a high-spirited tango.
    03:52 *Cafe, 1930:* This is another age of the tango. People stopped dancing it as they did in 1900, preferring instead simply to listen to it. It became more musical, and more romantic. This tango has undergone total transformation: the movements are slower, with new and often melancholy harmonies. Tango orchestras come to consist of two violins, two concertinas, a piano, and a bass. The tango is sometimes sung as well.
    11:10 *Night Club, 1960:* This is a time of rapidly expanding international exchange, and the tango evolves again as Brazil and Argentina come together in Buenos Aires. The bossa nova and the new tango are moving to the same beat. Audiences rush to the night clubs to listen earnestly to the new tango. This marks a revolution and a profound alteration in some of the original tango forms.
    16:55 *Modern-Day Concert:* Certain concepts in tango music become intertwined with modern music. Bartok, Stravinsky, and other composers reminisce to the tune of tango music. This [is] today’s tango, and the tango of the future as well.

      '1930 - people stopped dancing' ,... I don't think so, in the least. the EdO of tango in ARG hadn't event remotely started yet (mid 30s... 40s troughout ... mid 50s to come). guardia vieja were falling out of pref maybe, by then. dancing got impeded severily in ARG mid 50s, but then there was 'tango for export'. I get that a. piazolla himself was a truly capable musician (but not the only so), who had been active eg in a. troilo's orq troughout EdO, playing and arranging. as for more authentic stuff of that time (than chamber music), I'd suggest exploring 'en las noches' (1948) - a collection of recordings in which piazolla conducted an orchestra accompanying f. fiorentino after the latters' separation from a. troilo. [..] that being stated, I do like above duo's interpretation / performance.

Chapeau

    OK. The first thing I'm going to have to do is get a copy of the score. This sounds so much fun to play! Beautiful Tone Sami, by the way. I love Piazolla and came across this piece completely by accident (well by TH-cam recommendation, but same difference). Another winner as usual. Why is Paizolla not world famous? There really have not been that many people who could consistently write music of this quality. There's nothing for it. I'm going to have to learn this piece and try to perform it somewhere.

    Hello Master! I have a question. What kind of articulation do you use to play "Cafe 1930" in the faster part? Please, i'm trying to play this song but the articulation that I use is wrong

      Francisco Ochoa double articulation? I think 😕

    • @ClaudiaGarcia-lw1zi
      @ClaudiaGarcia-lw1zi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is using double tonguing. It is a semiquaver passage with staccatos; to keep them as short as possible and not muffled/fluffy, he used double tonguing instead of single tonguing.

    Congratulations!!!. My "ultimate" version for this suite used to be Ms. Camilleri and Mr. Lucini's. Sorry for the question, but is it possible to play this suite with a closed hole and C footed flute?. Do you know if a free score for this is available online?. Thanks in advance!!!.

    what is Sami doing during the cafe opening guitar solo?
    kills the ambiance.

    • @SamiJunnonen
      @SamiJunnonen  8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Dear Manuel, many thanks for your feedback. Petri started his solo a bit earlier than I thought. I had to set my pages, and, even worse, I had a weird mechanical problem with the loose tenon between the body tube and the foot joint of my instrument. I totally agree the action during the opening of the second movement is artistically highly disturbing, and I am very sorry. Sometimes these things occur in a live performance. Best wishes, -Sami

    • @KarensYoutubeChannel
      @KarensYoutubeChannel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually a quiet perfectly pitched flute squeak during that emotional guitar solo is kinda brilliant. Remember the title .. "Cafe" ...and perhaps next time you listen to this performance think of that "ambiance-killing" sound as the tinkle of a glass or a silver fork dropping to the ground as a head lifts to lay eyes on the guitarist. OK?

    the flute is very staccato,this is not tango sorry,plese hearing the original version sorry!or better sometimes is hearing bandoneon better
