A cool interesting detail about Medusa and Snoops in this film is that nearly all of their animation was done by one man, Milt Kahl, who is a legend among animators. There is so much beautiful movement detail in how characters that Kahl animated look, particularly with a trademark action he animates his characters doing, the Kahl Head Shake/Waggle. Medusa herself does it while pining over having to get the Devil's Eye. Kahl said that Medusa's mannerism, movements, physical design, and style were directly inspired by his ex-wife.
I love Mr. Snoops, he’s just such a regular guy who absolutely is not cut out to be a villain. Not in the sense that he’s too good a person, but that he’s lazy and completely unambitious. He’s just like some generic middle management office worker guy who somehow ended up working for this crazy criminal lady. I love how whiny and petty he is. “I wish you wouldn’t do that!”
With the extra small diamonds, jewels, and other treasures down at the cave, they would have made extra money. Medusa wasn't very bright and she was insane.
@@grantcole1898 Yeah, she was insane. She wasn't that greedy. WIth the Devil's Eye and the small jewels, it would be a lot of money. Snoops would have taken the small jewels for the money.
I bet you Penny making a fuss about her teddy bear getting wet was an excuse for her to refuse to go down into the cave to get the Devil's Eye because she literally carries that bear of hers everywhere she goes.
Those smaller jewels really would be worth a decent fortune. Medusa could sell them and get Penny diving equipment and mining tools or even hire a professional spelunking team.
She really can't have just anyone and lots of people knowing about that diamond, and I can see why. The more people you add on your team, especially adults who overall know better, and have gained a taste for funds and know just what the treasure is worth to up their own net worth, the greater chance you have of losing something or being betrayed.
I read that the wondrous Geraldine Page aced a majority of Medusa's dialogue in 1 take. Gerry had a sense of the character. Page was complimentary to Joe Flynn as Snoops!
I think there is a goof in this scene. Her teddy bear was being held on by Nero at 0:26, and seconds later at 0:27, the teddy bear somehow appeared back to Penny. 🔎🧸
It's amusing to consider how Medusa has the right idea but goes the wrong way with it. "Force them to like you"...well, it's just amusing really. Because in theory if she used all those smaller gems she doesn't want to buy luxuries for the child, she'd end up with a more co-operative child.
