Honestly I would recommend that you watch the whole DVD - even better, do the experience. I've done it and before making my mask I was skeptical about it all, but when you have put all this time and creativity into making the mask, you bond with it, and when you see yourself wearing it the feeling is very strange because you are familiar with it but it is not you, so you take on a new character. At first we couldn't speak real words, we could only come out with bizarre noises. It was incredible.
Hey Annie ! Thanks for you really helpful comment ! I'm reading "Impro" for now and I've been completely transported by Keith's word about Transe Mask. wow... I would like to know / if you can answer to this /, How can you channel this mask work into the work of a character written on a play ... It is really what interest me ... is it actually possible ? Should you start also with a mask ? or imagine it ? or something else ?
Hi Thora, if you have a chance to see the whole DVD of this class, you might find your concerns dealt with. I don't see how you can make these judgments based on viewing a trailer of the DVD. To say that these people are wanting to say things like "I was just in a trance" is assuming that they are liars and want to raise their status by being false. Or are you implying that Johnstone doesn't know what he is doing and that he is blind to people trying to fake it? If so, then you don't know Keith.
my problem is that he wants an organic, spontaneous reaction but the fact is that most of these reactions are clearly worked on and pre-meditated by people who want to be able to say 'I was just in a trance.' The woman who he asked to do it again reacted naturally not to her mask but to the situation. If we were asked to react to a mystery mask its likely we'd all oer do it and be really obviously conscious of it like she was. hers was the most organic for a totally inorganic scenario

I'd like to see subtle masks, not just demonic ones. Romantic masks, minimalist masks. I'm a major fan of his work.
