Other than the Tobey Spider-Man, most superhero movies & shows were pretty bad (I still can remember my immense disappointment with the Spider-Man TV series😞). Iron Man was a revelation compared to most of what had come before.

Its nice seeing somebody just starting on such an epic journey. Its alot of movies but I think you will be amazed at the cohesiveness of the storytelling.
The origin story in the film is actually quite close to the comics, with a key difference being the location. Iron Man was introduced in Tales of Suspense #39 (1962), during the Vietnam War, and that’s where his origin story originally took place. In the updated version, Tony Stark’s military demonstration happens in the fictional country of Siancong, introduced to retcon characters tied to the Vietnam War. Tony tripped a booby trap, which lodged shrapnel near his heart and killed his escort. Captured by the terrorist leader Wong-Chu, Stark was told he would die within a week unless he built a weapon for them. Given access to a lab with fellow captive Professor Ho Yinsen, Tony built a powered suit of armor to keep himself alive and escape, equipped with weapons to fight his captors. Like in the film, Yinsen sacrificed himself to buy Tony time to complete the suit and escape. After returning to America, Tony publicly revealed the existence of the suit but kept its true origin a secret, along with his identity as Iron Man. This led to the "bodyguard" cover story, which Happy briefly references in the movie. However, unlike the comics, Tony boldly reveals that he is Iron Man in the film. Why the retcon? Marvel operates on a "sliding timeline," where significant events in its history shift forward so that characters don’t age in real time. If characters' origins were still tied to the Vietnam War, they would now be too old for present-day stories. To resolve this, Marvel introduced the fictional Siancong War, a more modern conflict based on the Vietnam War, allowing characters like Iron Man to stay relevant without aging them out of the current timeline. For the film they just set the movie to the backdrop of War in Afghanistan. It's also worth mentioning that there was a deleted end credit scene featuring Nick Fury in which he references "assorted mutants," a nod to the X-Men. This was Marvel's way of laying the groundwork for potentially introducing the X-Men or, at the very least, indicating that the MCU would be an interconnected universe like the comics. However, since Fox owned the rights to the X-Men, this scene was ultimately removed, and mutants were never mentioned again. In the comics, The X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four all exist within the same shared universe. Unfortunately, because Fox owned both the Fantastic Four and X-Men, those properties were off-limits for the MCU at that time.
For the most part, the MCU draws from the mainline comics (Earth-616) while also incorporating elements from the Ultimate Comics, a reimagined and modernized continuity that began in the 2000s with Ultimate Spider-Man. For instance, in the Ultimate Universe, Iron Man has a completely different origin story: Tony Stark is diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. In his search for a cure, he meets a young boy named Sam, who is undergoing chemotherapy. After Sam's death, this experience motivates Tony to create the Ultimate version of the Iron Man suit, allowing him to help others while also keeping himself alive. In the Ultimate Universe, the Avengers are referred to as The Ultimates, and many character origin stories are depicted in a more "grounded" manner. As a result, their narratives differ significantly from those in the mainline comics, providing a distinct take on these characters. One notable element the MCU adopted from the Ultimate Universe is the casting of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. This decision was inspired by the Ultimate comics, where Nick Fury was modeled after Jackson's likeness. Interestingly, when Jackson discovered this, he contacted Marvel and learned they were planning a film, expressing their desire for him to portray Nick Fury.

I absolutely LOVE the whole first act of the movie with him escaping captivity. I could probably watch an entire movie of everything that happened there. Just the whole theme of having to invent and build under pressure, not to mention how cool it is to see him in the suit for the first time! Also, gotta love him and Yinsen's dynamic. Speaking of great dynamics, YES I also love Pepper's character! The two of them are so funny together, and their emerging romance doesn't feel forced, and isn't overdone here. Teenage me when I first saw this movie had such a crush on her, oh boy 🤣 But for adult me, fire extinguisher robot has my heart LOL You always have me jamming in these intros with the songs you've been picking lately haha. Also the new edit style with the movie down in the corner looks great! And I imagine it's so much easier for you to edit too, not having to move your camera bubble around to avoid blocking things. Looking forward to the rest of this react journey! Most MCU movies I haven't watched in years, or just not at all, so really excited to get on this journey myself too!
Sorry I'm late to the party here, but did you notice that Dummy (fire extinguisher robot) is the first robot Tony ever built (as seen in the montage prior to the not awarding of his award)? At least I think I saw that right...
I clicked on the video the second I saw Kaliwali reacting to the MCU. I've been on this channel since you started playing the GOW series, but honestly, I never thought that you'd be reacting to the MCU. I'm so excited to see your MCU journey. 😄 Also, you are right about going to the movie series in the release order. Edit: Also there is an end credit scene that you missed from this movie. Look out for these end-credit scenes, as you can find at least one in almost every MCU movie.
The request for an American hamburger always resonated with me. I was over seas for a year back in the 80's and that was one of the first things I did when I returned. The robot, Dummy, was created by Tony when he was a child. When you see the flash back of him growing up during the award ceremony you see an article with a photo of him and the robot.
Loved the reaction. Don't forget to watch until the end of the credits. Marvel is notorious for little after credits snippets of scenes connecting to a future movies.
Glad you enjoyed this. I saw this in the theaters when it came out in 2008 and it’s remained my favorite MCU movie. Just absolutely solid execution from start to finish, with a great performance from RDJ and a very charming Gwyneth Paltrow (so charming it’s easy to forget how nuts she is irl). The actor who played Yinsen was also fantastic. Great chemisty between him and Tony and was really the catalyst for Tony’s growth as a person. Toss-up between him and Tony for my favorite character in this movie. One thing that I wish was explored more was how much Obie’s betrayal would have affected Tony. He was basically the closest thing Tony had to family since his parents died, looking after him like an Uncle (which is partly why Obie said he’d been “propping” Tony up for 30 years - he’d literally known Tony since he was a child).
Great Reaction! Glad you have heard of the Agents of Shield show. It's a great series to watch in tandem with the movies. Even if you don't react to it, definitely check it out. It was released after Iron Man 3 so you have a bit of time. If you do react to it I'll be here for all 7 seasons!
Good Morning Kali…can’t wait to watch this today. I enjoyed your reaction to Iron Man. I’m glad that you are starting the MCU and can’t wait to see what will you watch next. Keep up the amazing work and have a good day today. 👍💯
Glad to have you on the MCU reactor roster. I hope you absolutely love it! Ya some of the newer movies like Love and Thunder were met with less great reactions, but you've got awhile of great movies and I believe the MCU is going to be revitalized soon. But Ill definitly be here for it all!
The story behind this movie is fascinating. In 2007, superhero movies were largely dead thanks to the massive flop of the "Fantastic Four" movie and the disappointing box office of the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man reboot (they planned 3 Spidey movies but only made 2 because of poor sales). When Marvel decided to make this, they literally viewed it as a low-budget ad for selling toys; in fact they chose Iron Man after making action figures of various heroes and asking kids which toy they'd rather play with. They cast Robert Downey Jr who was washed-up and just out of a stint in rehab, and director Jon Favreau, then a low-budget indie comedy director, gave them a middling budget and told them to make a toy commercial. Favreau junked the script and RDJ improvised most of his lines, and somehow they made one of the greatest superhero movies ever, and launched the entire MCU franchise.
"Favreau junked the script and RDJ improvised most of his lines..." If that's true, I'm very impressed by Favreau's judgement, boldness, and ability to quickly get a compelling story built from nothing.
Yes yes, the chemistry between Tony and Pepper feel so natural. Gwyneth and RDJ have some serious irl chemistry. And like yeah, he IS an asshole, but they're SO CUTE with one another. Listening to them both bicker throughout the entire series is one of my favorite things about them. That woman has the patience of Job, I swear.
Hell yeah. I just finished your GoW series while I'm getting ready to finally play Ragnarok and now you start the MCU! It'll take a bit to get there, but the later movies are especially amazing

AAAaaaaalways release order because of the callbacks and Easter Eggs (and because they are telling a larger story with each film as a chapter)!!!!! Smashing follow for another Marvel reactor. I hope you have a blast. I'm a guy who's grown up with Marvel from the comics and TV shows on my whole life, I love watching new people discovering it. (PS don't listen when someone in the comment says "[name of movie] is the worst one/terrible/etc." go in with an open mind. Even the worst MCU film is a lot of fun). I'm sure you saw the movies are divided into "Phases" as they progress the overall story (usually each phase of films leads to an Avengers film but not always) .. don't forget the 4th Phase and the beginning of the 5th also include TV series and specials on Disney Plus. There's also a separate pod of MCU shows not part of the Phases but are still canon (they're a side story unrelated to the main plot -- Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist & Punisher) -- **you don't have to fit them into the release viewing order**, they run parallel to Phase 3 but they're totally their complete own separate story. That being said some of those actors/characters begin to cross over into the films during Phase 4. Considering you called Tony Stark an asshole at minute 1 and a badass at minute 23, I think you get the appeal lol. Hoping you stick with it! Jon Favreau's character's name is Happy Hogan ... in the comics they tell you his full name is Harold Hogan, "Happy" is his nickname. The joke in the comics is they never show him smile. She-Hulk btw I thoroughly enjoyed but works better with the context of the other films... plus the knowledge the She-Hulk is special like Deadpool and knows she's in a comic/show/movie. PS Don't skip the post credit scenes! I'm sure people told you you missed this one's, hope you went back later to watch it!
Tony Stark has one of the greatest character arcs in comic book movie history. He starts as a lovable jerk, has an eye opening event and then becomes a true hero. Wait to you see where he goes...it's quite marvelous. 6:40, Also Pepper Potts is also going to have quite the arc as well.
Looooove Pepper so much! This was a very fun reaction video. Wasn't a fan of reaction videos but yours is fun and entertaining. Welcome to the cinematic universe and I hope you enjoy it! And yes, release order is the way to go! Looking forward to the next ones! Also I hope you watched the post credits scene. Everything Marvel made has at least one or two mid-credits or post-credits scene, so watch out for them! :D
1. Love your reactions. 2. Looking forward to all of your future reactions and hoping to see all of the “must see” war movies/series like Band of Brothers, We were Solders,1917, Dunkirk, All Quiet On the Western Front etc. As well, I hope you watch Good Will Hinting, Lord of the Rings series and Gladiator, Law Abiding Citizen, and about 4,000 others off the top of my head. Thanks for putting in all of the hard work that it takes to share your experiences with us and hope your channel grows quickly to a level where you can pay an editor and get some of your time back.
Watching in release order is the right way to go, especially since some events make more sense when you watch the films that came prior even though the later movie takes place earlier chronologically. And I have a feeling you will have a greater appreciation for both Thor movies you have already watched if you re-watch them in the correct order of the context of the MCU.
Because all of these films have end credit scenes (usually a mid credit AND an end credit scene) release order is the way to go and the way they were meant to be seen to avoid spoilers. As others have said be sure not to skip those end credits as they are fun ways of advancing the story. This is gonna be fun
The war torn area is probably a US-enforced no-fly zone. So as soon as the F-22’s see a potential bandit they’ll go see what it is. “Is this a threat in our no-fly zone or not”
i still recommend that you do reactions to those that you have seen, just because as you go along on the MCU, like most of us have over the years, the story line will build up and you may have different understanding or different feelings/emotions on the later released films just because you will have gained knowledge and understanding from earlier released films. As you go along, there will be other films you should also watch which I assume you already know or your fans will comment on what to watch next. Anyways, I always love when somebody takes the journey through the MCU. Hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for another marvelous reaction (heh, pun not intended). This movie was also before Disney bought them I believe. Also you are the first person reacting to this, that I saw, that immediately realized that Rhodes could not use the silver suit because of no power source. :D
9:20, this is the original story for Iron Man from the comics which came out during the Vietnam War. The writers updated the storyline of the movie to the then current Global War on Terror which was being fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Release order is the way to go! (At least on first watch.) Keep you eye out for Stan Lee, his cameos are fun. And finally, you are NOT alone on your Love & Thunder feelings...
Keep an eye out for the Stan Lee cameo's. He shows up in every Marvel movie that predates Avengers Endgame (note that's all Marvel movies, not just MCU)
I hope you enjoy the MCU! I know a lot of ppl have a lot to say about some of the more recent movies and shows but I just wanna say that not everyone feels that way. There are a lot of us that continue to love it!

Obadiah is the COO of Stark Enterprises which makes him the number #2 person in the company. With Tony gone he gets everything. Sad part is Obadiah worked with Tony's dad Howard so he is like an uncle to Tony. That is a serious level of betrayal.

Speaking of great dynamics, YES I also love Pepper's character! The two of them are so funny together, and their emerging romance doesn't feel forced, and isn't overdone here. Teenage me when I first saw this movie had such a crush on her, oh boy 🤣 But for adult me, fire extinguisher robot has my heart LOL
You always have me jamming in these intros with the songs you've been picking lately haha.
@@inspectre27 Oh is it?? That's really cool!
I clicked on the video the second I saw Kaliwali reacting to the MCU. I've been on this channel since you started playing the GOW series, but honestly, I never thought that you'd be reacting to the MCU. I'm so excited to see your MCU journey. 😄
Also, you are right about going to the movie series in the release order.
Edit: Also there is an end credit scene that you missed from this movie. Look out for these end-credit scenes, as you can find at least one in almost every MCU movie.
Yay! Excited for you to have the full MCU experience!
Cant wait..subscribed
He was basically the closest thing Tony had to family since his parents died, looking after him like an Uncle (which is partly why Obie said he’d been “propping” Tony up for 30 years - he’d literally known Tony since he was a child).
just started watching your channel with your god of war playthrough and now you are starting the MCU. This is awesome.
Yes!!! I hope she reacts to it
Heck yeah Agents represent.
Tony Stark pulling out his tube reminds me of when I was in the hospital and had mine pulled out. I never wanted to sneeze and cough so bad.
oh noooooo ugh. it has to tickle so much 😮💨
Yes, release order is a *must* for first-time viewing. Chronological order is fun once you're familiar with the big events of the film series.
Hope to see more of your MCU reactions ... it's a MARVELous journey!
You will love the MCU. Welcome to this fantabulous rabbit hole.
Great reaction Kali. Ironman is good movie
I love the OG Iron Man! Welcome to your MCU journey. Personally cannot wait for you to see my favorite Captain America: The Winter Soldier 😊
I had no idea you were reacting to movies now, Kali?!?!?!?! This is awesome! lol
Let's go kali❤
Awesome reaction
Im very excited to your mcu journey❤ can't wait for next
YESSS! I really love that you started mcu reaction, I'll definitely be watching all of your reaction 😁
For this film - I love Tony, Pepper and Happy Hogan!
You are the best ❤ can't wait
Enjoying all the content!
💚
You're really good at this. Please continue.
I definitely reccomend Agents of Shield it’s the highest rated marvel show for a reason. I’ll for sure be here for that journey and the mcu as well.
YAY!! I am so glad you are watching the MCU movies! I love all your reactions!! You are amazing and super cute!! Best wishes always!! 🙂❤
Hell yeah. I just finished your GoW series while I'm getting ready to finally play Ragnarok and now you start the MCU!
It'll take a bit to get there, but the later movies are especially amazing
LOVED this review! As a huge Marvel fan, it was amazing seeing your reactions 🫶🏻 can’t wait to see more Marvel reactions.
I gotta say after watching this, i'm very excited to get into the Marvel movies. i'm glad you enjoyed this reaction!
@@kaliwali I've always loved your authenticity and generally how you can capture an audience 🫶🏻 Youre simply amazing!
Your channel popped up on my feed, so lucky to find you at the start of the Infinity Saga. Looking forward to re-watching them all with you.
Remember the sound of Tony hammering together that first suit in the cave? File that away for later.
27:55 I believe you mean; he is a regular human just like all of us but he uses his intelligence and technology to make himself something more then he is
yay, always love watching mcu reactions! lets go!
I love that you laughed about the Myspace line!😆So you must be around my age then, although you look early 20's and stunning!😅Loving your reactions!
Amazing movie reaction. Love your congratulations on reaching 20k you deserve it😊
Watching in release order is the right way to go, especially since some events make more sense when you watch the films that came prior even though the later movie takes place earlier chronologically.
And I have a feeling you will have a greater appreciation for both Thor movies you have already watched if you re-watch them in the correct order of the context of the MCU.
Kaliwali Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
Tony's friend rodie doesn't need a arc reactor to wear the suit that scene was setting us up for Ironman 2
Thank you for this introduction to your channel. I am now subscribed.
Thank you for an other fun video.
Because all of these films have end credit scenes (usually a mid credit AND an end credit scene) release order is the way to go and the way they were meant to be seen to avoid spoilers.
As others have said be sure not to skip those end credits as they are fun ways of advancing the story. This is gonna be fun
Looking forward to the Patreon launch so we can watch along, thanks for sharing the entire journey. Hopefully not too much has been spoiled..
Yes, my favorite Marvel movie.
The war torn area is probably a US-enforced no-fly zone. So as soon as the F-22’s see a potential bandit they’ll go see what it is. “Is this a threat in our no-fly zone or not”
This journey is going to be a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next several months, possibly years, as you catch up.
i still recommend that you do reactions to those that you have seen, just because as you go along on the MCU, like most of us have over the years, the story line will build up and you may have different understanding or different feelings/emotions on the later released films just because you will have gained knowledge and understanding from earlier released films. As you go along, there will be other films you should also watch which I assume you already know or your fans will comment on what to watch next. Anyways, I always love when somebody takes the journey through the MCU. Hope you enjoy it.
Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark/Iron Man is the greatest comic book action hero ever put to film.
Thanks for another marvelous reaction (heh, pun not intended).
This movie was also before Disney bought them I believe.
Also you are the first person reacting to this, that I saw, that immediately realized that Rhodes could not use the silver suit because of no power source. :D
Tony had his Icarus moment.
He tried to fly too high and he almost fell to his death.
Love and Thunder was pretty rough. It makes a little more sense if you see the first 2 Thor movies, but it doesn't make it much better...
@@hayatotheninja Love and Thunder was the 4th Thor movie.
@@BryanFritchie I know, but you get a better sense of the relationship that Thor had with Jane if you watch 1 and 2
@@hayatotheninja that's fair 👍🏻
9:20, this is the original story for Iron Man from the comics which came out during the Vietnam War. The writers updated the storyline of the movie to the then current Global War on Terror which was being fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Welcome to the MCU! Enjoy the ride!!
Release order is the way to go! (At least on first watch.) Keep you eye out for Stan Lee, his cameos are fun. And finally, you are NOT alone on your Love & Thunder feelings...
You're in for an amazing ride when you get to the Avengers movies, especially the last two. Prepare for every emotion.
This is so exciting! I cannot wait to go on this journey with you. And don't worry, I am a hardcore Marvel fan and even I didn't like love & thunder. It's hard to think of any movie that got on my nerves as bad as that movie did.
Obadiah is the COO of Stark Enterprises which makes him the number #2 person in the company. With Tony gone he gets everything. Sad part is Obadiah worked with Tony's dad Howard so he is like an uncle to Tony. That is a serious level of betrayal.
Yes, there is an Agents of SHIELD show and it is AWESOME. Season 1 starts righ when Avengers 1 ends. I'm sure you'd love it. If you end up reacting to it, i'll be here to watch for sure 💟
Yeah... For ANY series of films, in release order is ALWAYS they way to go. Specially for first time watches.
The release order is the only correct way. Nice job
I love the guitar cover of back in black in the background at the start. Perfect for iron man video. Trust me everyone did not enjoy love and thunder you can skip that one :p
The first ever Marvel movie was Blade. It proved to Hollywood that comic book movies could be blockbusters.
Keaton's Batman films were successful a decade before Blade.
