Critical failure of government. California pays the highest taxes yet can’t get water to fight fires nor hire staff to manage the forests, parks, and trails.
Always more taxes, buy more stuff, hire more people, enact more regulations! You know the Federal Government owns almost half of California and manages the forest with the US Forest Service. The Camp Fire in 2018 started on federal land and started by downed PG&E lines. Is it possible real estate developers should not be building so much? When insurance companies pull out that should tell you something - don't build there! This was not a forest fire. It started in the hills where it is so steep I can't imagine "raking" and it's just bone dry chaparral. The winds gusted up to a hundred mph and could carry embers miles away. Thousands of structures on fire all at the same time. Imagine hundreds of people with hoses. The full water tanks lost pressure. Then not able to rely on the usual aerial assault due to winds. They say it takes three trucks to extinguish one house fire. Now multiply by thousands. But hey, Newsom is done in '26 so it's time for the next Republican governor to start campaigning. Good luck with that.
