  • In 1967, Navy communications specialist John Walker entered the Soviet embassy in Washington DC with information to sell. And sell he did, for nearly two decades. He continued even after retiring in 1976 by recruiting his brother and son (who both had access to military secrets). His daughter refused. In 1984, Walker’s ex-wife turned him in, but the damage-the worst in Navy history-was done. Sentenced to life in prison, he died there in 2014.
In this episode of SPY's Collection Highlights, historian and collector H. Keith Melton showcases a one-of-a-kind 100 Ounce Silver Bar. The Soviets paid John Walker this silver bar for his secrets. It led to his demise, and the FBI used it as evidence against him. Over his spying career, Walker took several hundred thousand to a million dollars.
    H. Keith Melton donated the rare silver bar to the Spy Museum and it now lies in display in the Museum's "Turncoats and Traitors" Exhibit.

You would not believe how evil this man was and I am glad he is gone.

Never knew about this. Spying for the Soviet Union, submarines, trips to Vienna, it's straight out of a Bond movie

A rookie agent took the call from his wife and tho0ught she was a lunatic. A senior agent noticed she spoke some of the terminology, and called her back.
