The Creation of Maki Zenin in JJK | Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie Characters Explained by Gege Akutami

Every character in Jujutsu Kaisen went through an interesting process of being created by Gege Akutami, and some of the earliest characters to be thought up were the characters that went on to star in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie. From here we get characters like Maki, who Gege Akutami described Maki as being heavily influenced by Chinese Martial Arts, because Gege wanted a character to used a multitude of weapons in his story, so Maki was created to fill that slot. As far as weapons goes the author says that Maki only actually owns two cursed tools of her own, if you don’t count her glasses which are another cursed tool made by a sorcerer to help her see curses. When Gege was trying to add more to Maki’s character he included details like her hobby of crushing cans, and this is mainly because Maki is so strong that she has fun crushing cans after she drinks from them to show off a little and just because she can. All in all, Maki has become a really popular character in the fandom, but Gege says he didn’t make her expecting her to be popular among men, something which is mirrored in the anime where he says she’d probably have trouble picking up guys.

I’m confused in how she would have trouble picking up guys he made her a physically strong and fit conventionally attractive woman owns and uses things like swords and pole arms. Well her weakest point personality wise is first impressions, which is really important in dating. Remember her first interactions with Yuta and later Nobara+Megumi? She came off like a proper asshole for the first one, and at best clueless and insensitive for the second one, she even realized it herself.
We later warm up to her, but yeah I can see someone not wanting to put up with her long enough to see her good side.

Maki is a strong woman written right. She doesn't make a big deal of how strong she is to men, she's just strong. And there's actual reason for her strength, we see hard she worked for it.
