This man literally just turned me into a tailor of men’s suits…. I had the understanding of pants bodice but now I know how to do a both!!!! ITS ON NOW
I am Calvin in this break down ,of back part thats drafted first, what syztem is used, in my case Sh/17 ch/42 wst/36 seat 42 how do u get Arm depth an first measures to full length
Suit has some standardized methods and measurements to use. 10 inches used as arm depth line for you will be ok More so this is a tutorial. It can't have all the peculiar instances for time sake. So it's appropriate to learn this, then experiment with other figures and you'll come up with adaptations that best suits your needs
I'm learning so much from this. Thank you! The thing that keeps tripping me up is knowing as I draft the pattern along with your tutorial is which measurements are custom and which are standard. My husband is a tall man with broad shoulders, big chest and slim hips so the edges that need to be joined I'm having difficulty lining up.
You can do it! The ones that require that you use your specific measurement, it's stated explicitly and the standard ones are so mentioned. Respectfully, if you could watch the video again and take notice of same I'll be glad 🙏🏽 🥰
Regular shirts have front and back patterns and so the measurements is usually divided between the front and back patterns. But in a suit, there's a side panel added to make it 3 pieces. So the 6 inches deducted is used for the side panel. If you study the drafting of the side panel very well, you'll understand it better sir 🙏🏽 🥰. Thanks for the feedback too
After watching this, I’m curious where you got the seemingly random little measurements like the here and there 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch or anything like that? I’m very new to clothing design and I’d like to learn more!
Thanks for the compliments. The 6 inches was removed because it was added to the side panel which had not been added to the measurements. And so if you do not take the 6 inches off and you draft the back, the front plus the side panel, the suit will be weigh bigger than needed.
@@JK-CLOTHING Ahhhh got it! Thank you. It's been a long, long time since I got my fashion degree and haven't drafted anything in many years. My pattern book I created (which was my bible of basic patterns) was stolen from university.

@@faithmpofu2094 you can add 2 inches to your bust measurement. You don't also use your actual waist measurement. Instead whatever you use for your bust, you take off 4 inches to use as your waist measurement since blazers are not meant to fit tightly

Can you do a video explaining how to get the body measurements? I know people measure differently, so I want to make sure I’m measuring the body the same way that you do
Such an amazing and detailed video! Thank you! But i do have a question. Are the measurements in the beginning (like the waist) measured as circumference or just from one side ?
Thank you for instructor, Please what happens to 1. The 6 Inches you diducted from the measurements. 2. The 2 inches from the chest and body, and 3 inches from hips you diducted. While making you only make use of the measurements when making the back and used half shoulder measurement for front. Please help
1. The 6 inches deducted is what is used for the side panel 2. The 2" and 3" is used to get the back panel shaped So when you've had your back panel, plus the 6 inches on the side panel plus half of the shoulder to shoulder used for the front panel, you'll end up getting your full body circumferences, even with a bit of ease. What I'd pray you do will be to use your own body measurement. Follow the steps as have been instructed. After drafting the back, side and front panels, measure the chests of the 3 panels and add them then compare with the measurements you took earlier. Do same for the waist, and hip and you'd know if it's accurate or not Thanks for the comment

Grateful for your comment and compliments 🙏🏽 To your question 1. You get the from by using the shoulder to shoulder measurement divided by 2 2. You can use same method just that the figures may change because of the measurements. For instance, the 6 inches side panel could be reduced to 5 or 4 or less depending on the size of the client What I advice is to experiment some of these things to come up with best measures that suit you as the designer. The 6 subtracted is for the side panel. Because usually our drafts are made up of front and back patterns but for suit, it's back, side and front. So you have to distribute the measurements so that the 3 patterns add up to make your measurements
Whatever is subtracted is added to the side panel. So you may subtract 4 or 5 for a kid depending on how big or small the kid is but remember to use same when drafting the side panel

The 6 subtracted is for the side panel. Because usually our drafts are made up of front and back patterns but for suit, it's back, side and front. So you have to distribute the measurements so that the 3 patterns add up to make your measurements
The division by 2 is because the patterns are on fold and will be opened up to make the body
